    I just came back to see if this was still the most boring comparison video on RUclips. Still the king.

    That magnum. Might be a little bias but I'm a massive victory fan. Because of how comfortable they are and the way they look. They have the biggest bags out of all the bikes. Largest from wheel. Smooth and flowing design and always look great. I've seen these bikes in show pretty standard and still take out the win.

      Charlie Mallow not if the bike has a fairing. If you've ever rode one, and had to deal with constant buffeting, it can ruin the ride.

    • @CharlieMallow
      @CharlieMallow 8 лет назад +9

      being out in the wind is it's a big part of the joy of riding. I've rode a bike with a fairing and dealt with buffeting. Any protection at all is better than the naked bikes I regular ride. So, I guess I don't get the nitpicking and snobbery.

    they were comparing stock Baggers they should the Victory Cross Country and not the Victory Cross Country Magnum. Victory Cross Country only cost 19,000 and set up for longer rides and better quality seat and a standard 18 inch wheel in the front

    • @saddle8bag

      The XC has a better shock than the Magnum too.
      To me, the Vic is the easy winner even with the goofball parts, but it's unbearable above 70 mph with the windscreen. You might as well stick your head in a dryer.

    I test rode the Harley, Chieftain and the Guzzi. If you want to go a bit faster, stop a bit faster, take a real corner and have the most engine character...... the Moto Guzzi every time. I got excruciating back ache on the Indian after 2 hours that lasted 3 days. The Guzzi have done 2 European tours. Yes.....I went and bought it

    6:40 it ain't always about CC, power to weight matters too! The Flying Fortress is 150lbs lighter than most baggers (692-752lbs depending on accessories).
    I traded in my Harley Softail for one and wow the Flying Fortress literally feels nearly identical in weight, except I have saddlebags and a fairing now!

    These all seem like good bikes to me.
    Among them...
    The bike I most want to take for a spin: Guzzi.
    The bike I most want to take on a long road trip: Chieftain.
    The bike I most want to own: Magnum.
    The bike I most want to sell: Street Glide (because HDs tend to hold their value so well).

    I sure still love the chunkiness of my 2014 street glides gear box. That and the vibration at idle of my bike, I don't fully know why but I bloody love it. I guess in this day & age where everything is increasingly more refined, quiet and as a result potentially boring; unrefined old school is just more fun, interesting and just does it for me.

Shaft drive. If you can buy one you can fix one, having a dealer close is overrated! If I need parts for my 50 year old Guzzi I order them from 3000 k's away and have them the next morning!

      @@smeghead61 The owner of a local dealer that sells several brands from BMW to Triumphs dropped Guzzi because he said the factory was impossible to deal with, couldn't get parts in a timely manor and they wouldn't cover warranty work. I have a Victory Magnum X-1 Stealth and I love it. I can stretch out on it when riding long distances and it's like riding on a cloud. I don't even need highway pegs. If I had to pick a 2nd place winner...for me it would be the Indian. I'm not a Harley hater though, they're great bikes, just not my style. The Guzzi is cool but it's like a bagger that doesn't want to be a bagger...kinda weird for me.

      +Evans Brasfield : I've been reading you for awhile. I think Motorcycle Cruiser was the first book I read your work, when Jamie was there. Anyway, I lived in Iowa for 9+ years and if I wanted to ride on a winter day just to get out, I had to deal with it. My current ride I've had to over 6 years has a heated seat and grips which helps. I usually turn them on when I get near or about 40 degrees and they're all the way up 32 and lower. My RT has pretty good aerodynamics, so the tops of my thighs are the only body part that gets cold. When I had a 1600 Nomad, I was a lot colder.

    Kind of strange how only Victory got a sigh for "love it or hate it styling".
    I believe the same may be said for all of these motorcycles. Even the Street Glide, which may have the style you expect does not necessarily mean you are gong to like it.
    The MGX looks the most like it belongs to a costumed superhero, but that doesn't make it pretty.
    I miss the days when motor-journalist would write articles that actually offered riding impressions instead of just petty criticisms. That is why i stopped subscribing to magazines.

      joshua holmes as a firdt bike i woulf definitely recomend a cruiser one comes to mind. kawasaki vulcan custom or classic 2007 and up. heres why, its low rides good cheap fuel injected, reliable quick gas efficiente and just.plain easy to ride. that will let u know if ur a cruiser kinda of guy its an awesome cruiser for the money. after that a harley dyna would be the next step up. as far as sport bikes i would recommned to stay away from for the first year youll know in the first year if ur a cruiser guy or sport bike. comes down to how much u ride ive taken that vulcan from san francisco to vegas. couldnt do thay with my sport bikes.

      So you wouldn't recommend getting something like the Yamaha R3, Ninja 300/250, Honda cbr250/300, or the Honda cbf300(NAKED BIKE)? I've heard very good things about the Kawasaki Vulcan S I'm just thinking if I go cruiser I'll be buying it used whereas with the entry level sport bikes they are only a few grand so I wouldn't feel so bad getting a used one. The problem with sport bikes is if I looked at a used one there is no guarantee the previous owner didn't just beat it to death.

    • @gigi9467
      @gigi9467 8 лет назад

      joshua holmes the 300cc bijes which i have had are just.plain underpowered josh. now with that neing said they underpowered here.im the us not.sure if u live here in the us. also even if u thought it was ok u would grow out of it very very fast, that i would buy used because.usually.owners are first timers and they grow put of it fast so they dont.reallt beat.them up. ur first.bike should be used cuz odds are its gonna be ur first bike after that one u can actually.buy a new.one that u know u will.keep for a while. it.took me 3 new bikes till i kept one for a while.and they wer.new lost.alot.of.money. it does sound like ur.more.into sportbike so get that 300cc aa ur firsr bike but save some.money and buy it used they are incredible.simple so its hard for them to brek down specially a honda or.yamaha.

    I doubt any of these bikes will place most riders in the sweet spot for handling, and buffeting out of the box.
    The Chieftain I have needed some tuning.
    It was sensitive to heavy OKC cross wind and buffeting out of the crate.
    I moved the handle bars to push me back in the seat.
    The difference was huge. It moved me into a sweet spot for balance and control that is pretty incredible for an 850 lb bike or any bike. The handling is now my favorite thing about the bike. I was to far forward with the dealer setup.
    Before I moved back I also had some buffeting and reverse air flow at around 100. Now that is gone as well and I can tune the airflow around my head and shoulders with the electric windshield at different speeds.
    I almost wish I was taller, I wonder if the bike would be even better if I was over 6' and bought the factory seat for taller people and moved farther back.
    Today, the bike turns and changes lanes at speed much like my 300 lb dirt bike, a light push on the bar, slight lean, another quick lean to straighten it up and you are very predictably in the next lane.
    Group riding in heavy wind I can ride the bike on either white line from 60 to 100 and it needs little or no input from me.
    I don't like air in the rear shock. It changes the balance and the ride. The book says 0 air up to 200 lbs, I'd say 300.
    When you dial this bike's chassis in, it is pretty incredible to ride. It's a little stiff for suspension travel but the chip shuts the gas off at 120 and stiff is needed at speed.
    The only other issue I can recall was raising the headlight. With the factory set, I was overdriving low beam at about 45 mph in feet traveled.
    It's an easy adjust with the provided Allen wrench, now the low beam is ok for about 70 and the hi and spots give me enough light to hit the chip at night and see ok.
    It didn't take much to dial the bike in but the difference is pretty amazing in both ride ability and comfort.
    Oh, did I say, "I love this bike".
    Once dialed in, it's been ridden pretty hard. I hasn't asked for anything, it uses no oil between changes and gets one every 5000 miles.
    The chieftain loved the power package of cams air cleaner and pipes. It tries to rip the rear tire off the bike in 3rd gear and hits the chip at 120 in 4th gear.
    If you have room to ride a tank of gas out at 120, you will need another tank of gas in about 95 miles, but even the sport bikes will be somewhere behind you by then. I really don't remember even seeing any of the stuff I've passed again the same day and this bike will do it day after day.
    I love the bags and electric locks. Each bag hauls 36 bottles of water beer or pop. Today they have a bunch of junk, 2 leather jackets, one sweatshirt half a dozen bottles of water and a Walmart chicken in them.
    Last night I rode it out to the sprint car races and had people gather around it and take its picture.
    What's not to like about this bike?
    I'll never diss another brand of bike, but this is really a great bike.
    So, tell me about the competition, I don't want to miss anything and if there is anything better I'd like to buy one.

    I test Road the Magnum it is lowered an inch and a half in the rear and I did not care for the windscreen being short or the raked front end then I tested the stock cross country it sits you upright much more comfortably has a taller windscreen and it far-out handled the Magnum in Corners in fact it out handled The Indian and the Harley in my opinion so I bought one. after 46,000 miles I rewrode the other two still happy with my choice. plus I'm six foot three, from the back of the driver's seat to the floorboards I have 8 more inches of legroom than on a Harley and 6 inches more than on the Indians. the Magnum is more for the city Cruiser if you're going to hit the highway you want the cross country or cross-country tour if you want to text Victorys best foot forward.

      Agree! after test riding the CrossCountry, Magnum, Chieftain & Street Glide, I got myself a CrossCountry. Rode it on 2 trips with wifey as pillion, over 15,000km through Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand-Cambodia & same way back to Singapore. Wifey & I are totally in love with the CrossCountry.

      @rockthestrand 7 лет назад

      It would have embarrassed all 4 of these. Throw in the BMW K1600GTL and hands down winner. But these are what they want to just call baggers where the Honda/BMW touring.

    • @madigorfkgoogle9349
      @madigorfkgoogle9349 7 лет назад

      actually, they said its a fork mounted fairing class so this is clear disqualification for both GW and GTL.
      But, you are very wrong with your assumptions, GW is very outdated now, and all except the Guzzi outclass it. The BMW is is full dresser, and again its outclassed by all other dressers for the purpose the touring dresser class exist, and that is the long range riding comfort. Yes it is the strongest one, yes it is the sportiest one, but no its not comfortable on long trips, since it has cramped space, same is true for GW, GW is comfy just for short guys, for tall guys its real PITA.
      So go back and dream your wet dreams based on numbers, the rest will make long trips on bikes you qualify as subpar...

      @EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist 8 лет назад +1

      You know, we actually talked about including the V-Star, but frankly, with the displacement disadvantage it had, it would've been a bloodbath. The Valkyrie has no fork-mounted fairing.

      Although it would've been bad for Yamaha, I'm thinking that's what they need to hear. It took them this long to come up with the Bolt, and was it really that hard for them? Honda too should bring back their Shadow RS now that the "sound patent" has been withdrawn. lol

    One of the most pointless reviews I have seen. The majority of the review was talking about the wind. I ride to feel the wind, and the sun, and feel alive while I travel. I think these four should have taken a bus tour of the ghost towns. I have ridden three of these four bikes. I would go Indian, Victory, Harley in that order.

    "anti flapping device????????" Does he mean a steering dampener?

    • @EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist
      @EvansBrasfieldMotojournalist 7 лет назад

      No, he's not referring to a steering damper. Frequently, bikes with large front wheels have a problem with them flopping to one side during low speed maneuvers. The device on the Guzzi actually resists this tendency to flop. I wrote about it in detail here: www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/moto-guzzi/2017-moto-guzzi-mgx-21-flying-fortress-first-ride-review.html

    The front fender on that Indian is just wicked ! The Victory is kind of run-of-the-mill, and the Guzzi is a bit weird looking for my taste. But by far, ten years from now, the one with the highest re-sale value will be that Harley. It would be my first choice, then the Indian a close second. I'd take the Victory in a pinch. You can keep the Guzzi.

    my pick for long trips where comfort & reliability is paramount, it has to be 1) Victory 2) Indian 3) Guzzi & 4) Harley
    On the Victory they should've use a CrossCountry which has 17" front in my opinion is better in handling & confort & it is much cheaper then the Magnum.

    These guys just don't understand Harley Davidson motorcycles. The "clunkiness" is actually the mechanical voice of this beautiful machine that is part of the story of moving people down the road. If you love mechanical things... then you usually love Harleys. And the torque of the Harley is great for folks like me who are big (300lbs of muscle) and don't want to have a bike wrapping out and wearing out just to maintain the power to pull me up a hill. Also... that little wop job Guzzi is only good for short people because people like me hit their knees on the stupid side-projecting cylinder heads. There is only one guy in your group that is tall enough to appreciate the Harley. As for the Polaris bikes... they are "also rans" IMHO.
