  • New Order perform Blue Monday at the Seaview Ballroom in Melbourne, Australia on 27/11/82.
    NOTE This is the first time New Order played Blue Monday live. With vocals anyway. A couple of days previous to this, they did a gig in a different venue in Melbourne, and they debuted an instrumental of Blue Monday. This would go on to be the b-side known as The Beach.

    He's right, this was the first-ever performance of Blue Monday. As confirmed by the official New Order gigography. At the previous gig two days beforehand they played The Beach (the instrumental version of Blue Monday) :-)

    OMG at Barney/Bernards vocals on this!! Not that he has ever had a singing voice and that was half of the charm of New Order.
    Thanks so much for uploading!

    I took this Video in the small lighting room above the stage in the main hall of the Crystal Ballroom. The owner of the Crystal Ballroom, who also owned Missing Link Record shop in the city, had me also run a AV cable to the big screen downstairs. I believe this was the first time played and definitely the first time Blue Monday was recorded. Here I am, over 40 years later, and I recorded Peter Hook & The Light doing it again at the Astor Theatre in Perth (28/05/24).

    This was recorded at the Order's second Melbourne gig (Seaview Ballroom, 27.11.82), just over a month after BM was recorded at Britannia Row in London (around 22nd October). Cool!

    Barney still trying to "find" his "voice" then... Classic Classic N/O! This is what makes them different form other bands. We watched them grow and get awesomer with time. Barney singing regardless of how awful he sounded. Hookie messing up notes. The other two hitting two keys at once. Again..something only a N/O Fan can appreciate and love.

    This is probably the closest ive ever heard to the original recorded version, probably due to all the equipment. The sequencer is nigh on identical!

    According to setlistfm it's from November 1982. But how is that hard to believe? New Order often played songs live well before they saw the light of an official release. "Let's Go", the instrumental released in 1987 on the Salvation soundtrack was performed live as early as 1985. Proto-types of Temptation & EGG in late 1981 with Movement songs.

      Yep, and Hooky confirmed it in his biography (Pt11) Substance, P134

    In the 1982-1983 version of this song, the LinnDrum and Oberheim DMX were heard. In 1983 versions of this song, the Oberheim DX was heard.

      Because they were often filmed by amateurs, and amateur cameras didnt pick up as much light. Watch any “early” New Order performance that was filmed for television instead

    A few months ago I saw a clip captioned some like “first reaction of new order” when they first debuted their electronic style. The clip was fascinating with people sitting standing in the room not knowing how to move to the music. I have been so desperate to find this clip again, if anyone’s still on here and can help PLEASE!!!!

    Was Blue Monday released as a single in Australia?

    • @joeogle7729
      @joeogle7729 3 года назад +4

      No it wasn't. New Order had recorded it before they went on this tour and they usually ended up playing new stuff before it was released. Another example is there is a live pre-release version (like this) of the perfect kiss that Bernard introduced as "I've got a cock like the M1." How someone's private parts can be like a motorway I'm still unsure but it's funny so fair enough.

      Lol..Then u r no true new order fan...Sorry. just a studio fan. U have to think this was 1982...Prototype song. Shitty unreliable synth and sequencers by people who played by ear. If u do not understand the influence and the history of the group how can u call yourself a dan..Stick to the records. Have u seen them in later years once they gave in to commercialism? I bet youd love those gigs

    • @mcdazz2011
      @mcdazz2011 4 года назад +5

      @@thedelacruz - the "commercial" gigs are the ones I dislike most. The unpredictability of New Order gigs always made them more interesting. When they were on fire, they were on fire, and when they were shit, they were shit, but even when they were shit, they still had some magic about them.
      The beauty of (early) New Order was that they were flawed, and they'd happily admit to being so.
