I just had some mulching done on one side of my fence. The poison oak plants were crushed and covered up with mulch. One week later 6 plants appeared almost ten feet inside my fence. I have sprayed them with a mixture of Vinegar and liquid dishwasher soap. They are brown and drooping. I bought some brush killer spray and will finish them off next week. I hope. I had no ides the root systems would pop up ten feet away from the original plant. Live and learn!

I have had them sprayed and recover and come back. I keep getting it and I haven't touched it. I think my dog is getting it and sharing it. That wilted stuff is still alive!!

The only real way to get rid of poison ivy, oak and sumack. I think is to get a disposable painter suit and thick gloves and pull it up while making sure to get the whole root system.. bag it and throw away with the trash. .along with the suit and gloves. even if you kill the leaves the root will just grove new ones over time.

Not necessarily. Many herbicides work by attacking the roots and blocking the uptake of nutrients from the soil. Glyphosate (as one example) is a systemic herbicide that accumulates in the roots killing the entire plant, not just the leaves. Halosulfuron methyl (HSM) is another example and is the main chemical in many nutsedge herbicides. The HSM translocates into the nodules underground and kills them so the sedge can't resprout from the root nodules.

so did this stuff just kill the exposed plants or did it backtrack down to the root system killing any/all other connects shoots?

I have always heard that poison ivy "Climbs", the hairy vine variety. "Hair on the vine, no friend of mine". The poison oak is more bush or brushy type. Both have 3 leaves. The poison ivy vine can grow to be bigger than your wrist and go way up in tall trees, three leaves along the way, especially at the top. When either is very young, they both look alike.

Thanks, this was perfect for me. I am trying to rid myself of poison ivy and Virginia creeper. FYI Virginia creeper does have a protein in it that is exposed when you cut the vines that causes a reaction in over 75 percent of people. I got this information from my allergy doctor after having a reaction. The reaction is not as severe as poison ivy. For me, it's pretty bad, so I am trying to kill it without touching it.

Great video. Been landscaping for over 25 years and always looking for better products especially if they can give a client visble results so quickly. I just placed an order for some and am curious how quickly and effective it will work with regular broadleaf weeds and grasses. Poa Annua and chickweed are rampid right now and I have a 1300 Sq Ft area of stone that has been taken over on a new clients property that I am going to give this a shot. Greatly appreciate the info

I tried this product, I was amazed how well it worked in killing just the poison ivy without killing the regular english ivy or the other plants around it. The question is whether the poison ivy will come back next year, will wait and see.

Pay very close attention to where you walk as you spray weed killer ! I got in BIG trouble in 1989 on my first landscaping job. I was spraying several very large patches of poison ivy with Roundup, got it on my shoes and walked on the lawn. Apparently I did this several times through out the day, in front of the house, behind the house, all over the property because I wasn't paying attention. On Friday afternoon my boss received an irate call from the client, on Monday she went up one side of me and down the other, she came very close to firing me.

If this is sprayed on poison ivy vine etc. Will it travel systemically to nearby trees and bushes and kill them? Or does it just kill the vegetation you spray and not spread and kill nearby plants. Thanks

Even though you sprayed with Ortho-(poison Ivy get rid of) on the topo leaves of the Ivy, does it truly get rid of all the weed (leaves and roots)? Or does it grow back???
Just because the top leaves wilt or shrivel up, doesn't mean a whole lot to me.
I have a red colored vine growing/spreading up the side of my house and has 3 leaves per group, so i assume it is some kind of poison ivy weed, not sure though.

Looks like you have poison ivy. Poison oak leaves are more rounded and a duller green like mini oak leaves.
That stuff really worked. Good to know.

Ha never this was poison ivy 3 leaves comes to the same spot, the oil even on dead leaves last 5 years maybe if you rake it all out and move it off the property it would be safe to work there but fr spraying it does not do the trick I’ve been suffering for over a week now with poison ivy

That is definitely poison ivy. You can tell usually by the notch in the leaf and poison oak is more of a round leaf.

Jason I so appreciate your channel, but please don’t say Virginia Creeper you can touch and does not affect us. I am highly sensitive to this one and get the worst case of ivy-like rashes.

Wash off with Dawn dish soap after you think you've been exposed. I just take the dish soap to the shower with me and wash all over. You can and will transfer the oil from the poison ivy from one area to another just by scratching the area and touching somewhere else. Really nasty stuff.
