A great trip. I had a tour of Central Asia with a fatbike, I rode 4000 km for 3.5 months. fatbike is definitely more successful than mtb on the mountain and I carry 20 kilograms of equipment. greetings from Turkey
I absolutely love these videos mate and look forward to them. I have a sick 90 year old father I have to look after so they are just the ticket for me. Thanks for posting.✌️
@@ChrisRishworth that's awesome. I knew an old guy 92 rode his bike everywhere and still played cricket till the team told him for safety he had to give it up.
Nice video mate, shame about the weather, yikes kangaroos can run fast, you know what I miss the background music you used to put on, it was brill I thought. 😁😁
@@ChrisRishworth Nah: you can go places we never could in the 4WD. Landcruiser sinks to the bottom of everything. This is a really great channel: been through most of the videos now. Make you feel like you're there: moth other channels can't do that. Thanks for the entertainment! I reckon you'd have a great time on the Gunbarrel highway. Favourite place in Aus for us.
@@FraserRobertTorpy Thanks 😊. The Gunbarrle highway is already marked on my map. Next year starts the Big adventure of Australia 🇦🇺. Should, will get some great outback adventures. Cheers Chris. Picking cherries now and until mid February.
G'day Chris love all your vids, certainly wants me to get all the gear to match my fatbike [norco bigfoot 2]. I actually wandering what tyre pressure you use when doing those long heavy trips? cheers colm
Thanks. These tyres the Maxxis Mamonth are really bag at low pressure. So really never go much less the 15 psi. Often at 25 psi. Very soon I'm changing tyres either to the Swalble Jumbo jims or Maxxis minion or something similar. I need to be able to go low pressure on the sand. On the sealed roads 30 psi. I have a large volume pump which I bout at Big W it's fairly good at putting air in. I still need to find a better solution. So I can deflate air quickly when needed and pump back up quickly. My bike is getting converted to a belt drive at the moment with lauf forks. I'm in Tasmania picking cherries. Should be completed when I get back to the mainland. Lots more videos to come through the year. Cheers Chris.
Chris, have you thought about buying yourself a two-layer tent with an external frame!? If the rains go on for a long time and it will not be possible to go for several days, then the single-layer tent will leak!
Have you always had hub gears? I haven't noticed before. And I was wondering the same as an earlier comment about drinking the ground water, maybe with a filter or those sterilizing tablets.
The hub gears (rolhoff) had for a bit. My sram failed in the snow and had to scooter out. Low maintenance the hub gears. Ground water with a filter foreshore. My 2 water filters have stopped working ages ago. When I can afford one I will go for the MSR Guardian because it's self cleaning and gets rid of viruses also. Would have saved a lot of weight. 😃
I carry a poncho for 2 reasons. 1/ keeps the rain off while on the move and 2/ to catch rain when camped. String up in a tree (saw some perfect ones in your vid), close up most of the hood with a couple of bulldog clips, chuck a pot underneath and Bob's your uncle. Bloody light too. 👍🇦🇺
Yes have the 100mm to 400mm lense on the camera. In the backpack. Wrapped in a jumper. The 14mm lense in the frame bag wrapped. When I get the Lauf Carbonara forks. Hopefully find a way to attached on the handle bar's. It's quiet slow to get out from the backpack. 😊
Your shuold try a sling backpack rather than a conventional backpack. Yuo can rotate it around to your front and remove the camera without taking it off. Just make sure it still has a waist strap for weight bearing. I find its ok riding with my Sony and 100-400 in it.
@@ChrisRishworth its all good, i only charge $40 an hour for online mechanical consultation. lol. if your ever in the widebay region near bundaberg region, give me yell. 👍
Thank you. 😊 I use my car with a bike rack on the back. Normally Park in a safe place. Say next to the police station or in a popular place. This time pink lakes free camp. Cheers Chris.
@@ChrisRishworth Thank you Chris I figured it would be something like that. It's a huge refief, that others do the same thing. An unrelated question, what brand is the fat bike, it looks really good.
@@k.whiking4372 It's a MURU witjira trail. Australian brand. Can't really recommend. They stopped returning people's emails awhile ago. I think they go by area 54 ? Now. The pinion gear system built into the bottom part of the frame is much better. Expensive but only change oil every 10,000 kms almost no maintenance. 29 inch bike with 3 inch tyre's probably better option. Giving more options. Cheers Chris.
Originally it was tubeless. Then I had a big blowout in the outback. I lost all my sealant in an instant. So I decided to go back to tubes. I also have tuffy inserts in between the tyres and the tubes. Have not had a punture since but the weight is a lot. I might go back to tubeless for the the weight factor.
@@ChrisRishworth thanks for the info. Im also thinking into going tubeless but also thinking if during the tour suddenly got flat it will be harder to find someone to fix specially in areas or locations where tubeless is still not used. Inly down side is that carrying more tubes will eat the bag spaces and also as you've mentioned the additional weight.
I watched your videos and noticed that you eat plant foods. Are you a vegetarian or a vegan!? I am a Buddhist myself and therefore do not eat killed flesh.
Chris, take an example from your sisters!!! The slain flesh carries the energy of death!!! Show compassion to living beings and then there will be more Joy from God in your soul!!! Good travels to you!!!

Great video! Been down that track many times in the 4WD, but never in the wet: wouldn't make it 100 m. Amazing how much more capable the fat bike is.
Thank you. It was lucky the really wet bit was only for a short distance. When I saw the 4WD turn around I was concerned.

Good onya Chris 😊
Thanks Shane. Finally my new frame has been made in the USA. Hopefully have my new improved bike going in a few weeks.
Beautiful photography as usual 👍 Wow, that's a lot of water to carry. I guess it's not practical to filter the muddy water you were riding around.
Thank you. I would have filtered it. But my 2 water filters have failed ages ago. Have to buy the MSR guardian end of this year.
Another really interesting trek mate. Was it hard going in the sand? Thanks for your vids😊
Thanks, Not to bad just slow.
That is a top video mate, great country out there. What decided you on those big tyres?
Thanks. I got stuck in sand in 2014. Since them been aiming to do the more remote sections of Australia. 2023 must be that year. 😃

Why didn’t you capture some of the rainwater to have a big drink?
I did capture about half a litre in a container. I drank that very quick. Didn't have any real way to capture any more.

Probably a Kangaroo not sure what part of the video you are in.
Hi, Chris! Why did you give up the butterfly steering wheel and put a Jonson H-Bar?
For the drone controller which I don't use any more. Probably get another one like the mini 3 DJI.
Yes. Water is so heavy. 10 litres is around 20 lbs. Are you carrying over 40lbs in water?
Started with 55 ibs of water. 5 days worth. Definitely heavy. 😃 😊

I had the Jones bars so I could attach a drone controller. Maybe change one day.

No you could boil or filter it. I just didn't have a filtering system. Boiling does take a lot of time. I will get another water filter in the future.
