100 percent AGREE! tech was supposed to make life easier - less work - it's done the exact opposite

I hate it when people call and don't leave a message. If it's important enough to call, it's important enough to leave a message.

For me. Its a mixed bag. EG: I love that contacted immediately if my mother, kids & grands have an emrgncy. And....
Consider: One can always decline the call.
I DO, however, LOATHE the email thing. There is ALOT ive not bn able to do bc of that. Practically everytime Ive entered my REQUIRED email its somehow the wrong one. Then i have to re-create it & a password. And then it happens again
    And again
    And again.

Avoiding technology to deflect immediate anxiety, prevents oneself from frequent and intense anxiety in the future. Privacy can now be programmed and schedule. Can't avoid it now without consequence.

I agree that it’s a big change from the way it was 50 years ago, but I disagree that it has to be seen as some insurmountable level of tech know-how. If you don’t like the changes, don’t use them, but then you can’t complain that the world has left you behind. Plus being responsible to your family and friends as to what you are up to at any moment of the day has many, many positive aspects, greatly reducing anxieties and misunderstandings for both you and those trying to contact you.
Your grandmother probably didn’t ‘need’ a cell phone, but could it have benefitted her life? And your great-grandmother probably didn’t need a home phone, and they lived the way they lived, but I imagine that as soon as these technologies were widely available they were adopted in your ancestors’ homes because they made life easier and better and safer.
If you choose to live with only primitive technology, then expect to be relegated to living in a cave (metaphorically speaking) as you isolate yourself from modern technology. You and I are the same age, Ms. Smart, so I know you can handle this, and I promise that bigger changes are coming in our lifetime. This is not a time to retreat to simpler times. So let’s accept these changes gracefully and do our best to keep up. And when we get stuck, our kids and grandkids are only too happy to show us what to do!

You missed the point. The point isn't that technology is challenging, it's that it has created this expectation that everyone needs to be available to everyone at all times. That's a recent expectation, and not one that makes our lives more comfortable. It has nothing to do with age either, except that the younger people are, the less likely they are to remember anything else.

Older people don't realize that we as a society of younger people that grew up with technology and being connected 24/7 have all actually collectively agreed on the unwritten rule of not questioning anyones "Excuse" to why they may not be available immediately for a text/call. So you don't have to be always available. "sorry i was in the shower" "sorry my phone sucks i never got that text" "phone was on silent" "I was working" etc.
Even though we all know we have our phones on us pretty much 24/7 we don't pry when someone gives us a reason. Why is that? its because we know we are going to do the samething at somepoint and want the courtesy returned. We dont all want to be reached at any point or respond instantly at any point. That's ok. Also sometimes all of those things are true too.
I think the issue is older people are used to having to respond when someone tries to contact them because they werent intouch as much with everyone so it seems more urgent to them.
