  • Dan has been a tetraplegic for about 3.5 years now. The dust is settling, and we have settled into routines for his care and our life in general. In this video, we show some of the ways that Dan's nurses help him get started in the morning. We are beyond fortunate that Dan has a nurse and an aide around the clock; these guys make anything else we can fit into the day possible.

    A PTSD TALK THOUGHT: We are very grateful to have stumbled upon this channel. On our channel we rant about PTSD issues because we are hands-on with individuals with behavioral, mental, and developmental health ourselves. Then, we find people like this who kick PTSD in the azz! An honor to see a chronicle of hard work and dedication as it relates to handling disabilities. The name "How We Roll" says it all. We salute you two and your staff. Never abandon those with disabilities because one day it can be us! #howweroll

      He’s absolutely right. It is pretty much the same thing. Has he tried Goodwill Medical in Bellmawr? They usually have a couple, way cheaper than buying from a medical supplier. The sling runs between 200-300 on Amazon, they don’t always have them at Goodwill.

    How did he become disabled?

    • @DanandSharonErtz
      @DanandSharonErtz  4 месяца назад

      It started with an accident - he was a culinary arts teacher, and was dancing in stage at a school fundraiser. He misjudged the edge and fell off; he broke 15 bones including three vertebrae and 8 ribs; he had a collapsed lung and a tbi. All of which have healed now, but a week into his hospital stay they used a triggering agent on him for a genetic disorder that he and our children all have called malignant hyperthermia.

    • @DanandSharonErtz
      @DanandSharonErtz  4 месяца назад

      That caused widespread and hardcore nerve damage, which left him a quad.

      Dan doesn’t smile a lot, it tires the muscles around his lips and mouth. It doesn’t mean he’s unhappy, and when he does smile it’s even better. And every time I look at Dan, I see courage, humor, love of family and me. I could look at him all day.

      I have seen Many disabled people in my life. My Father and stepmom ran a disabled service for many years. It is still called The Independence Center. And I can assure anyone he is ok. If he was not he would not be on camera. His wife clearly has more respect than you give her credit for.

      That would be your choice. It is not ours. There have been triumphs and setbacks, and real progress made. Did you surf last year? Did you volunteer last year? Did you learn about RUclips, and editing videos last year? Did you take a class, or go on vacation at the beach for a week? Have you scaled a climbing wall, been to a wine tasting? Dan has done all of these things in the past couple of years, plus more. You don’t want to live? Fill out a living will and make sure family members are aware of your wishes. It’s that easy. We are living our best life, and I’m sorry you can’t see that.

      My father before he passed was with my stepmom a quadrapalegic with some arm movement for 20+ years. I am sorry you View being disabled as the worst possible thing that could happen to you. If you truly are a Christian you need to think before you type something to someone. People like you are why I fear for my 2 disabled kids .
