@@alpep1307 I am looking for alternatives, and believe me when I tell you that Dan will not suffer for quality of care. Penn is on my list! But I also believe that the need for care is on a continuum; not every patient is a Dan. If you want to be in this business, you need to balance the Dans with the Sharon’s; the hard, with the easy. Not everyone is hard, some are easier, and that comes into play. In our defense, our insurance pays on the dime and always has. Magee can bill them whether we show or not. If insurance stops paying, we will - there is no greater priority than Dans therapy. So I don’t understand the problem here, and that leads me back to the level of complexity of Dans case as being the problem.

It started with an accident - he was a culinary arts teacher, and was dancing in stage at a school fundraiser. He misjudged the edge and fell off; he broke 15 bones including three vertebrae and 8 ribs; he had a collapsed lung and a tbi. All of which have healed now, but a week into his hospital stay they used a triggering agent on him for a genetic disorder that he and our children all have called malignant hyperthermia.

That caused widespread and hardcore nerve damage, which left him a quad.

@@DanandSharonErtz oh wow that’s so tragic. I’m glad Dan is still happy, thriving and still living life to the fullest despite his situation. I love how you still treat him regularly and give him a chance to try to communicate while also making sure that Dan doesn’t miss any fun opportunities ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! It happened, and it was bad, but we are looking forward not back. So we have a good life! We got to retire early, so we can have adventures and get into trouble! ❤️

Me too. I tried “cooking for one” (Dan doesn’t eat food) but I can’t seem to make a small quantity, lol, so I pass food out to our kids and Dans nurses! 🤣

Thank you! Dan says thanks too. 5 years ago he had a serious accident, and he then developed malignant hyperthermia. MH is genetic (our son has the gene as well) and what it means is that upon receiving certain kinds of general anesthesia the metabolism goes into overdrive, and in particular body temperature. Dan had a very high temp which kind of killed many of his nerves. He has had muscle atrophy as well, and some lung issues so he has a trach, and a feeding tube. Long story long (sorry!) he is a quadriplegic. Thank you so much for supporting our channel; stay in touch! 🐱

That would be your choice. It is not ours. There have been triumphs and setbacks, and real progress made. Did you surf last year? Did you volunteer last year? Did you learn about RUclips, and editing videos last year? Did you take a class, or go on vacation at the beach for a week? Have you scaled a climbing wall, been to a wine tasting? Dan has done all of these things in the past couple of years, plus more. You don’t want to live? Fill out a living will and make sure family members are aware of your wishes. It’s that easy. We are living our best life, and I’m sorry you can’t see that.
