For future viewers do not install compound on a GPU like you do a CPU. There is zero heat spreader on a GPU like there is on CPU's. That chip is the GPU die, be very careful with it and install a even coat on the entire surface. Cut up an old credit card or gift card, clean it with alcohol and then put an even smooth layer on the GPU die. When installing the heatsink do your best to not move it once contact is made. This card can run cooler with proper compound application. You can do the dot method but to make sure the entire surface is covered you will get plenty of overspill. Even layer is what I have found to be a better method for GPU and I use the center dot method on CPU's.

I'm thinking I will order up so thermal tape and take it apart. Crazy how well the 1070 - 1080ti are holding up in 2022. I now have 3x 1070 and 2x 1080 in the home, some on high refresh rate monitors, some on 4k TV's and they all game very well as long as you are selective in your in game graphic settings.
The 3 plugs from the cover to the board, do they power the fans? If I don't plan on running any fans and leave the cover off, do I need to replug anything? TIA

I tried removing the heatsink but it won't budge I triple checked all the screws, i put so much force thats it bends the board. So decided to give it up rather than possibly killing the card. Btw i changed thermal paste on like 20cards.
deacreasing temps. this card was used about 3 years and witha 100% of fan temp was around 72 celcius. after changing thermal compound i got 59celcius 100% of fan speed

Saw this video, and wonder if just cleaning thoroughly like this is going to fix it? The error relates to nVidia's DLL /driver when it shows up, and also watchdog timer. Pain the behind, but I don't want to get rid of this card if it can be salvaged.
@@Rubafix989 I tried thoroughly cleaning it with compressed air, and the inside of the computer chassis today. Put the 1080 card back in, reinstalled with drivers update from this week. Now it has not crashed or blue screened at all. I'm pointing at it being the thorough cleaning out of the case is what fixed it. Maybe it was over heating somewhere?
@@tallpaul9475 When you have driver issue the best course of action is to first clean the previous driver using "Display Driver Uninstaller", and then do a fresh install

I have an issue where the fan stop light is on and fans do not spin, despite me trying to use afterburner and aourus to force them to work, the gpu fans just won't spin. Any help on how to fix it please?
Be sure to unscrew the all screws on it. Thermal paste also act like a glue and also thermal pads too after a time. You can clean your heatsink by removing fans. Each fan hold by 3 screws

my personal idea, i dont like vertical gpu adaptors. If i have gpu with illuminated fans like sapphire nitro+ special edition, than its worth to use vertical. But for tgis gigabyte G1 not worth it. Also it doesnt affect any cooling performance
@@pimpcrypto6777 of course ! any thermal paste is good remember the job of the thermal paste is just to keep the touching components cooler than the heat being distributed, just make sure the thermal paste isnt so runny or something and if it is u can just mix literally like a drop of elmers school glue to thicken it up but 9 times out of 10 the thermal paste is ready to go for use so it shouldnt be a problem at all

@@45eno rog coolers are way better than g1. Also i got evga ftw3 1080ti recently. With liquid metal its very good even my room temp at 37degree

Its has 1mm thickness on vrams but you can use 1.5mm ones.

On vrams and and power modules next to vrams needs 1mm thick, other power mosfets needs 5mm thick

1mm on vrams. You dont need to change regulary. Change them If your vram temps get above 70c

Yeah, that's happens when the card doesent need to spin up the fans, if you want to control them use xtreme engine
