    I didn't clean my 1080 ti for 3 years and it looked exactly like that (dirt-wise) The satisfaction of cleaning all that dirt is inexplicably high though for some reason.

      Same for me with my Titan XP. Dirt was sticky because of 4 years of not cleaning the inside of my case, and coffee fumes. Thanks for the disasembling video !

    Thanks for the detailed teardown. I just cleaned my new-to-me 1080 Founders Edition. I dropped temperatures them 83C to 77C with stock fan speeds, so now I'm not hitting the thermal limit of 83 while maxing out 1440p. I think this design would have benefitted greatly with a copper base heatsink.

    7:00 first test the gpu when buying second hand then do whatever you want. so you know if you broke it or if it's already broken

    I did notice a 1000 score upgrade in heaven. I disassembled my gtx 180 yesterday and let me say: without a tutorial on your model, you get terrified. Gpu shortage and no one selling a gpu for under 800 is scary. I’m glad mine still worked.

      same for me i have got a running gtx 960 with this type of design ie a fan on the right side only....and u dont have a cleaning video of this model except this one on youtube...plus i am from a small town where u dont get hardware that easy

      @@JoCruz UPDATE: the 1080 FE cooler works GREAT on my 1070. The 1080 used the more powerful vapor chamber cooling solution on the inside, and on the lower 150W TDP 1070, it keeps it around a max of 63 C while gaming, and about 30-34 C idle.

    Question, when doing before and after thingy, was both test, the fan duty, was it both the same settings? Stock fan curves?
    82c/69c soon as you started the program??? Doesn't seem right, did you do the test one time around before doing the actual test? It couldn't have rise that quickly the moment you start the program.

    Could you tell what hex keys were you using? I am trying to take apart a gtx 980, which should be very similar to this. I used size 2 hex key for some screws and it was fine. There are some smaller screws, but 1.5 hex is too small and seems to mess up the screw. So neither size 2, nor size 1,5 hex works. Anyone can help?

    The weirdest thing i noticed with my 1080 FE, the thermal pads were soakd in some kind of oil which covered the gpu board. Used some 99% isopropyl to clean it all off, had to use .5 1.5 and 2mm thermal pads (surprised he didn't mention there's usually 2-4 different sized pads in the video. But overall I gained a 15% increase in performance and a smexy new looking card.

    I think it's about time i clean my GTX 1080 founders edition i bought back in the summer of 2016 after release. Recently when gaming i saw the temp spike up to over 90 degrees celsius right before the system crashed, that have happened multiple times recently.

    How do you take apart a blower style fan from your card? I did this just no so long ago and it ripped the plastic from beneath and need a replacement...for A GTX 780 reference card

    Cool. I'll stick to clearing dust for now. Don't know why I didn't think of this. I have to do CPU radiator every few months. Never done GPU since new a few years ago and now it's shutting down PC randomly!

    Eyy Im also a fan of tech yes city. A friend bought a new prebuilt and sold me his old one. He didnt know what was wrong with it and had it in pieces. For 300$ I got a i7 8700k, 1080ti, 16gigs of ram, and a new corsair 750m psu. I was mostly interested in the 1080ti....WHICH WORKED. So stoked, but it is a bit dirty. Not sure what went wrong, but I upgraded from a vega 56. Woo!

    How much dirt should I have to worry about, my msi 1080ti isn’t THAT dirty but it has some dust collected under the fans and in the heat sink I guess that’s what it’s called

      Usually, if you at least clean it once every 6 months, you won’t need to disassemble it. You can just use some canned air to blow some of those out.

    100% fan speed is just too much 😅 noise wise.
    I'm not sure whether if mine is due for cleaning. Temps are okay but less than desired since it's a blower style.

    Hi there, and hello from Brazil, i got the Msi GTX 1080 Founders editions, looks like yours, but im pretty concerned about how much thermalpads to buy, before open it.
    I tryed Heavens with her and got something like 83 degrees everytime, without any OC, and gaming i got the same. But with some more heavy games, like the Need for Speed Heat, my pc shutdown before i could finish a single run, so, can you tell me about the thermalpads, if they are 1mm, 1,5mm or 2mm and how many pieces i have to buy?

      I only used a 1mm, not sure if it’s the same thickness as the MSI. You don’t really have to replace them. Just try to clean the fans and the fins even without replacing the pads you should see better performance.

    My 1070 constantly ran at 82 c I just cleaned the fan fins lol and it's running at 70 now I was gonna tear it down all the way but in my case dont think it was really needed yet

    the big deal is you went from thermal throttling at 83 C to 70C which is pretty insane much better cooling

      Wd40 and a soft toothbrush, but only clean the pcb If it’s really dirty, otherwise just use air to clean it.

      The previous owner must have been a smoker or vaped. The smoke from them is sticky so dirt sticks better.

      @@JoCruz funny you should say this as it will be the first time i'm cleaning mine as it's getting a bit hot , i smoke and mines not that bad, also what should i do with the extra 4 screws ????? i went to test it , couldn't get it to work so put another one in that didn't work either ' so 12hrs later of troubleshooting , ended up jumping the CLRTC , works better than it did 24hrs ago

      @@JoCruz I recently got my 1070 FE too, has some little dust build up, will try opening it up for cleanup later. How was your idle temps before and after cleaning?
      Mine sits arpund 46-47 C idle

      It was around 50C and pretty hot underload, 95C if it’s not 100% fan speed
