Me with my 6 year old 970: Oh no, anyways
Lol
same gtx 960 bot in 2015
Great now i can clean my integrated graphics!
😂
Jo Cruz you are an inspiration man once this quarantine and pandemic end I will build a pc, I’ll have to stick with my potato for now tho!
Lots good deals with budget build now that Ryzen 3300x is out. Can build a great budget build for less than $500
Jo Cruz I know alot about pc parts it’s just that I couldn’t get a job do to age but now that I’m able to, once this quarantine is over I’ll make sure to look into ryzens new gen of processes
@@Darklovesto inspiration??🤣🤣
I didn't clean my 1080 ti for 3 years and it looked exactly like that (dirt-wise) The satisfaction of cleaning all that dirt is inexplicably high though for some reason.
I enjoy cleaning pc parts too lol.
Same mine is running 90'C
Same for me with my Titan XP. Dirt was sticky because of 4 years of not cleaning the inside of my case, and coffee fumes. Thanks for the disasembling video !
Thanks for fast forwarding through the only part of the video I wanted to see!
FR. I had to slow it down to 0.2 speed to see wtf was happening.
Thanks for the detailed teardown. I just cleaned my new-to-me 1080 Founders Edition. I dropped temperatures them 83C to 77C with stock fan speeds, so now I'm not hitting the thermal limit of 83 while maxing out 1440p. I think this design would have benefitted greatly with a copper base heatsink.
7:00 first test the gpu when buying second hand then do whatever you want. so you know if you broke it or if it's already broken
I did notice a 1000 score upgrade in heaven. I disassembled my gtx 180 yesterday and let me say: without a tutorial on your model, you get terrified. Gpu shortage and no one selling a gpu for under 800 is scary. I’m glad mine still worked.
same for me i have got a running gtx 960 with this type of design ie a fan on the right side only....and u dont have a cleaning video of this model except this one on youtube...plus i am from a small town where u dont get hardware that easy
"I got this for 200 dollars and I think it's a pretty good deal"

*Sheds a tear*
Rx 6650 XT, same price, faster, quieter, better fps x wattage
Great breakdown and edit with your video bro just ordered my thermal paste and will be cleaning my 1080 tomorrow thanks to you👌😋done a r9390 a couple times but never this card thanks again
Really helpful. Imma start cleaning mine too!
yah! and upgrade your PC! lol
Hey Jo, just about to do same. Need to get some new thermal pads. Would really appreciate if you can confirm thickness of pads
Hi thanks for this vid, I just cleaned my FE 1070 by following the video. Though its not as nasty as what you have, but it feels good to clean and maintain pc components 😌
Glad you were able to follow even though it was supposedly a time lapse
Great vid! I ordered a 1080 FE cooler for my 1070 because I love the look of those coolers. It’ll be my first time putting a cooler on a card so this should be a good reference vid! Thank you for making this!
How was the 1080 FE cooler on your 1070?
@@JoCruz It is shipping from the United Kingdom to Indiana, USA so it’ll be just a bit longer till it arrives. I’ll update you when I have it installed!
@@JoCruz UPDATE: the 1080 FE cooler works GREAT on my 1070. The 1080 used the more powerful vapor chamber cooling solution on the inside, and on the lower 150W TDP 1070, it keeps it around a max of 63 C while gaming, and about 30-34 C idle.
What thickness thermal pads did you use? Thanks
Any chance you can drop the specs on both thermal tapes you used on the video?
Hi I took mine apart after it stopped working. I was wondering if the grease or residue is normal to have on the board where the thermal pads were. Or is that maybe liquid damage on my card
Fun teardown & cleaning video. Tech Yes City is cool.
Question, when doing before and after thingy, was both test, the fan duty, was it both the same settings? Stock fan curves?
82c/69c soon as you started the program??? Doesn't seem right, did you do the test one time around before doing the actual test? It couldn't have rise that quickly the moment you start the program.
do you happen to know what type of screws hold the heat sink in place? i just got given one of these and it doesnt have the bottom cover or the heat sink screws
Really thanks you man , I've cleaning my 2070 Blower Editions , AND WOAAAAAAAW !!52 degrés on desk , to 34degrés on desk , simply with a cleaning ( Ok , that after 2 years of smoking in my gaming room ^^ )
Really thx a lot !
Peace on you
Le bonjour de la Savoie mon pote ;)
Thanks bro! Peace!
Is thereanyway to just take off the front cover? Just to clean out the heatsink and fan?
Could you tell what hex keys were you using? I am trying to take apart a gtx 980, which should be very similar to this. I used size 2 hex key for some screws and it was fine. There are some smaller screws, but 1.5 hex is too small and seems to mess up the screw. So neither size 2, nor size 1,5 hex works. Anyone can help?
Hi bro, good video, I would like to know how thick the thermal pads of the gtx 1080
I have a GTX 980 founders edition, but you see the screws on the top of the gtx 1060? I have
The same screws in my 980 but they are stipped any ideas on how I can take them out?
The weirdest thing i noticed with my 1080 FE, the thermal pads were soakd in some kind of oil which covered the gpu board. Used some 99% isopropyl to clean it all off, had to use .5 1.5 and 2mm thermal pads (surprised he didn't mention there's usually 2-4 different sized pads in the video. But overall I gained a 15% increase in performance and a smexy new looking card.
That is mineral oil leaking from your thermal pads.
What are the thermal pad size I should be buying for 1080 FE. Can you help?
luv the tools u use for all the screws...got a link to them?
what are the thickness of the pads you used ?
Ur quality is amazing 👍 nice video's
Thank you!
May I know what particular screw drivers needed to disamble it?
I think it's about time i clean my GTX 1080 founders edition i bought back in the summer of 2016 after release. Recently when gaming i saw the temp spike up to over 90 degrees celsius right before the system crashed, that have happened multiple times recently.
u must have had a dirty case my card have never been that hot got it same years ame ver
Really nice video, I have GTX 770 and this video was really helpful for me.
Glad it helped!
How do you take apart a blower style fan from your card? I did this just no so long ago and it ripped the plastic from beneath and need a replacement...for A GTX 780 reference card
Can u tell me where u got the screwdriver/bit for the hex screws at the back of the card at 1:38 ? I don’t have a screwdriver like that and don’t want to order the wrong one
It's a product line from iFixit. I have their 30€ set and it's the best.
What size are the screws on the shroud? GTX 1060 founders edition want to change the thermal paste after years of use. Great video 👍
think they are 1.5 and 2.0 hex bits on the front, if its just the termal paste you want to change
i have the same card but am to nervous that ill mess something up when unscrewing and applying alcohol. where did u get the kit to unscrew everything?
I got it from amazon, I’ll put the link in the description. It’s not that bad, put a little bit of alcohol at a time.
just cleaned my 1080ti GTX and temp dropped 30 deg Cel in DCS THANK YOUUUUUUU !!!!!!!!
Can you anyone tell me the thickness of the thermal pads for 1080 fe?
What multipurpose spray did you use from tech yes city? Is it the wd-40?
Yup wd40 lol
how about the size of thermal pad thank
what is the size of thermal pad ?
my gpu is making this kinda d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d d noise at below 50% fan speed and not sure what it is, any help?
The design of all references GTX Series is beautiful in my opinion
I think so, it’s just so darn hard to tear apart, I literally had to unscrew 90% of it.
I didn’t know that, I haven’t had a 20 Founders edition.
So you basically replaced every memory chip with 1.5mm pads?
Any reason as to why the GTX 1080 card shakes?
I have the exact same GPU and I want to give it a clean, but I cant find Thermal pads anywhere in my area... what kind of thermal pads should I be looking for?
I linked the ones I recommend in the description of the video. Its the arctic thermal pads, you can get it from amazon.
I just got a Zotac GTX 1080 FE for 250€ and temps go up to 77°C, I‘m going to try this out and hopefully it works, otherwise I‘ll look for a watercooler...
Hey Jo nice Video i am doing sime kind of the same at my channel in Germany,
keep that work on really like your Helpfull cleaing advice :)
Thank you, will check you out!
i also bought a 1080 for 210, but the rog one, nice video!
That’s a pretty good deal then, specially it’s ROG strix
Rodrigo dela Huerga were
where did you get a 1080 for that cheap? I call lies
Do you still use EVGA's Midweek Madness even with the shortage of PSUs? and how much would you spend on a 500-600w PSU in today's market?
Yup I actually got 3 PSU and 3 GPUs in the last 2 weeks.
@@JoCruz Sweet I'm going to check it out for the first time next Wednesday! Thank you!
Be there like Tuesday 11:55pm, also check the bstock few hours before to see what items will most likely be on sale.
Cool. I'll stick to clearing dust for now. Don't know why I didn't think of this. I have to do CPU radiator every few months. Never done GPU since new a few years ago and now it's shutting down PC randomly!
Oh dang, you definitely gotta clean that GPU. Let me know how that goes!
@@JoCruz well it worked. Sadly some screwws so tight I gave up. Air can blew lots out though and it's working OK again at least.
Hey sir . I just saw the new msi x570 tomahawk wifi . Is the best 200$ mb for a ryzen7 3700x ?
Definitely a buy if its under $200, but itll be hard to find
Eyy Im also a fan of tech yes city. A friend bought a new prebuilt and sold me his old one. He didnt know what was wrong with it and had it in pieces. For 300$ I got a i7 8700k, 1080ti, 16gigs of ram, and a new corsair 750m psu. I was mostly interested in the 1080ti....WHICH WORKED. So stoked, but it is a bit dirty. Not sure what went wrong, but I upgraded from a vega 56. Woo!
That’s a damn good deal. Even with just the cpu or the gpu, you got your moneys worth.
@@JoCruz Yea I'm pretty happy huge difference from vega 56 to 1080ti although the new 3060ti is $399 but who knows when that's gonna be in stock so yeah.
How much dirt should I have to worry about, my msi 1080ti isn’t THAT dirty but it has some dust collected under the fans and in the heat sink I guess that’s what it’s called
Usually, if you at least clean it once every 6 months, you won’t need to disassemble it. You can just use some canned air to blow some of those out.
Dude those temps are insane, poor GPU's out here suffering
Do u have to change the thermal paste on the gpu or can u just kinda leave it then work around it
I changed it
@@JoCruz will any thermal paste work or should I be careful about anything
Any thermal paste should work. Just don’t overtighten the screws
💪🏽
Royallol 😬
Getting dust off the heatsink probably accounts for most of the difference in temperatures.
Do more videos they are great
Trffs thank you, working on one right now!
Whats the thickness of the thermal pads that you use?
its 1.5mm, link in the description.
@@JoCruz thanks bro
Anytime man
Blower fan sounds like a jet engine
Man with all the positive comments I feel weird thinking that the speed of disassembly was so damn fast it was hard to keep up.
I preferred it bro u can see which screws he removes I really don't need to see him remove each screw in real time I'd be watching all day video was great for me haha
100% fan speed is just too much 😅 noise wise.
I'm not sure whether if mine is due for cleaning. Temps are okay but less than desired since it's a blower style.
Hi there, and hello from Brazil, i got the Msi GTX 1080 Founders editions, looks like yours, but im pretty concerned about how much thermalpads to buy, before open it.
I tryed Heavens with her and got something like 83 degrees everytime, without any OC, and gaming i got the same. But with some more heavy games, like the Need for Speed Heat, my pc shutdown before i could finish a single run, so, can you tell me about the thermalpads, if they are 1mm, 1,5mm or 2mm and how many pieces i have to buy?
Have my subscribe, excellent content, waiting your response, thanks.
I only used a 1mm, not sure if it’s the same thickness as the MSI. You don’t really have to replace them. Just try to clean the fans and the fins even without replacing the pads you should see better performance.
@@JoCruz its about 2 months, that i changed the thermal paste and clean all of it, but didnt change too much
@@BambooWagner have you tried down volting/down clocking even for a little bit?
@@JoCruz Nope, how do i do that, with afterburner? Just push down and ok?
Yes with afterburner. Do it little by little.
My 1070 constantly ran at 82 c I just cleaned the fan fins lol and it's running at 70 now I was gonna tear it down all the way but in my case dont think it was really needed yet
I dond think that fan speeds same at benchmarks.
can you take out the fan without taking the entire card apart?
Dumb question 😅
The real improvement is longevity
yup
How often should a card be cleaned?
Every 2 years is fine
$200 is a steal. I’m watching this cuz I’m contemplating on buying the same gpu for $400 from somebody in Craigslist….I feel like I’m getting played for buying it for that much!
Tip: Either cut the music, or level the audio ... Music is too loud, you are too quiet...
Content of the video is good, i dont like having to continuely alter the volume.
I think the audio is not loud at all
200$ for a 1080 a year ago 😔 I paid 300$ for mine today and it’s such a good deal already lol they go for 400+ now
Can you please make a video or tell me what Pc I should built for 1250€
I have some videos coming up with that price point. With in the next month!
5:33 woah did you use tape for thermal pads?????
Those are thermal tapes
@@JoCruz ok
Okay bois time to get dirty!!

the big deal is you went from thermal throttling at 83 C to 70C which is pretty insane much better cooling
how u clean u pcb gpu. what tool u using

u gotta tell us the THinkness of those pads
i just saw them merci :*
Follow up on these. We need the thickness of those pads.
They’re in the description lol
I'm concerned, how could it get THAT dirty
I know right... Even if I don't clean my PC for 5 years, it wont be this nasty.
The previous owner must have been a smoker or vaped. The smoke from them is sticky so dirt sticks better.
@@JoCruz funny you should say this as it will be the first time i'm cleaning mine as it's getting a bit hot , i smoke and mines not that bad, also what should i do with the extra 4 screws ????? i went to test it , couldn't get it to work so put another one in that didn't work either ' so 12hrs later of troubleshooting , ended up jumping the CLRTC , works better than it did 24hrs ago

Will look into that right now.
a big hassle for only a 10 jump in degrees I seen another vid was the same thing better to just unscrew and clean the dust off the heatsink
15 mins of your time is a big hassle for you? 10 degrees is a lot.
