Husband tore both ACLand Meniscus so camping on hold since October 25th.surgery mid December... glad we have a sticks n bricks didn't sell everything years ago.
Before this past August I've never had an RV. My wife of 29 years decided she didn't want to get to 30. so I did the math and bought a 2018 Bullet and moved to an RV Resort and that is now my home. So technically I am full time but I just don't constantly travel, and when I do I don't have to pay for hotels, and my parents are putting a 30 amp outlet on our land for when I go there.
This is why I watch you two. Realistic talks about real situations. I couldn't agree more about the 'being flexible' part in terms of figuring out one's own solution. I'm not a big fan of parks anyway, except for every now and then. Which is why I'm about to upgrade my onboard power situation so that will never be an issue again. I'm also about to re-domicile from Florida. Looking very hard at AZ or NV in my case for various reasons. And 100% agree about fixing your rig/vehicle yourself whenever humanly possible. There are those that are philosophically opposed to 'doing their own maintenance'. That's fine if you're independently wealthy. Even if I had that kind of money I wouldn't spend it on that. I'm sure others will have very different opinions.
A large consideration we are able to go full-time, is my 55+ year's worth of being a mechanic, a lifelong DIY'er, wr to almost always doing my own maintenance on the truck/trailer.
Thanks another great video. One other reason folks stop RVigg that you didn't cover. RVing is almost always a team sport.. When I lost my wife, It was a very hard decision to make, but I have decided to try going out solo I am discovering others who have made the same choice. This community is making the grieving process a little less hard.
We are full-timers with domicile in Spearfish, SD. Best decision we ever made. We use Anytime Mailbox which provides us with our address. We've had absolutely no issues. The best part is no state income tax and no personal property tax! We love Spearfish so much we spend several weeks every spring and fall in that beautiful little town.
We’ve been through that area, and you’re right, such a nice place. We would probably stay with Escapees, but it’s good to hear about this alternative option. I heard some rumbling about SD and issues voting. Have you heard anything with that?
We made our domicile to South Dakota about 10 months ago and it was very easy and we saved a lot of money on licensing and sales taxes as we just bought a truck and trailer. Car insurance is much cheaper than our previous state of Washington. I’ve heard car insurance is cheaper in South Dakota but the state health insurance is more than Florida. We are heading out to go to Baja Mexico for the winter in a few weeks. You should consider it. The boondocking on the beaches is unbelievable. This will be our second trip. To change your domicile you need to spend one night and get your drivers license in person. You only have to go back once every five years to renew your drivers license. There are many videos on this.
Great video guys. Really good information I love it when you guys talk about real things that happen. That you're not afraid to share your mistakes so it doesn't happen to other people appearing
You guys are so right. After 8 months we found the cost has exceeded our planned budget. Our fifth wheel is in the shop for a broken frame right now. One of the many unplanned expenses We were supposed to be at Romp It Up and was planning to meet you guys and thank you personally for your advice, and the great budget spreadsheet you provided us. It works great! We changed our domicile from Oregon to South Dakota. Simple process of staying one night and taking receipt into DMV. Make an appointment and we were in and out in 15 minutes with new SD driver licenses. We save a lot since Oregon taxed my retirement and South Dakota does not have state income tax. Happy trails....
That is so unfortunate about the frame! We hope you guys get back on the road soon! It's great to hear the budget spreadsheet is working out for you. We MUST try and meet up sometime out on the road. ❤️
I saw a person post a video a few weeks ago that SD has changed the laws regarding people using their state as domicile and not actually living there. That has made it almost impossible
I really enjoy your content & have learned a lot from your videos. Full timer here in Jax,FL & was curious how do you locate a mobile tech? I have found it very difficult to locate a good one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & safe travels 😊
Enjoyed this episode, LTNT. I would recommend buying two properties [One for winter and one for summer] and invest in septic tank, maybe electricity and/or solar and water on both lots. That's what my wife and I plan on doing. We want to buy 5 acres or more somewhere in Colorado and 5 acres or more somewhere in Tennessee. We may consider a third property somewhere in south Florida that's more inland; about 30 to 45 minutes away from the beach.
@liketheresnotomorrow my father-in-law is going to give us 5 acres to use as a home base. He gave my my wife's other sister 5 Acres years ago and they built a house on it. We live in Texas for many years but we may be back to southeast Oklahoma. The winters normally aren't too bad and my wife's parents aren't getting any younger so we will probably spend a few extended periods there. Will allow us to spend time on the road but have a place to be when we need to be
Make sure you check the state laws AND the local ordinances as to whether you’re allowed to park your rig on property before you buy! More and more places are not allowing long term RV parking because they don’t meet building codes. Just check before buying, even in the boonies!
As a full timer now for about five years you are spot on. First you simply can't sustain traveling every couple days maybe as married twenty somethings with no kids but otherwise staying put for a minimum of one week and usually two saves your sanity and budget. Partial hookups, boondocking, and longer stays plus eating in are big money savers. Also healthcare is something you should plan for home base somewhere where you do your annual physical, dental, eye care etc. It probably means a month in one spot but that's OK. I actually had cancer and as a result my kidney removed we camped in a RV park for three months near family and are back on the road again just got back from returning for a couple weeks to do my six month check up all good so far and cancer free. Now just need annual scans so we work those into our travel. We are retired but only mid 50s and live of a $4k/month pension in a used class C and tow a used Jeep everything is paid for so no debts which is key.
Great insight & info as usual. I really appreciate the fact that you two aren't doom & gloom and take the practical approach when sharing and advising. Counting the months 'till we can join y'all out on the road. Starting our shopping (dream/planning) at the Tampa show in January!! 🤩
Hi guys, enjoyed the video like always...I see Barry in his Salt strong t shirt, since i am a member, i ran over there and read his article on Salt Strong. I have a question what is the brand of your inflatable? Well enjoy your week see ya next time.
This is a really good video guys. Tons of info I didn't know that I can use someday. I also lived in Indiana for 35 years before moving to Florida 8 years ago. I am ready to move on with a 5th wheel and see what the west holds. These videos have value because you are showing a solution. I am not handy but having that course available is a game changer maybe. So thanks much. Hapoy journeys.
Love your videos. We will weekend warriors soon and then into our retirement years, so we're doing the research now. I appreciate your honest opinions and advice. Please keep it up❤
We just started full-time RVing and took 10 days to travel down to TX to establish our domicile. The legal process is going to start this week. Hopefully it's a smooth transition! 🤞
always have an exit plan. sold the rv cause its to busy to much drama with camp grounds dry camping areas over crowed, ect. bought a 44 ft lagoon catamaran couldn't be happier. just complected my first circumnavigation around the world it took 8 years.
Hey guys … great vid, all good points, and you two are pretty spot on! You guys look great! Hope all is well. Stay health, wealthy (RVing wealthy that is), and wise! MERICA! 🇺🇸😎👍🏼
We are in Texas and have spoken with many RV'ers about this over the past couple of years. We previously had Progressive but this past year switched to Texas Farm Bureau. They only have coverage for those who domicile in Texas. So I am sure this helps with the cost. (approx 35% cheaper then Progressive for us).
Extended stays reduces travel days which reduces fuel cost and are usually a lot cheaper than nightly/weekly rates. Also. Mange your expectations. You're not on permanent vacation. Best way to start fulltime rving is to be totally debt free including your rv and tow vehicle.
Thank you again for the great information and definitely all things to take serious note of. We appreciate your candor and all of the hard work you put into these videos. We are still pursuing the early Spring fulltime RV'ing with an Alliance Paradigm which we will buy after the new year. We have been getting organized/preparing. It does take a lot of prep work and logistics that need to come together, but "it's happening" and we couldn't be more excited, trying to relax, feeling scared, worried. LOL!!! I feel like I've been exhausting my resources looking for work. I also feel like something is right under my nose and I'm missing it! We intend on a SD domicile or Wy. SD definitely an easier less expensive option, as we read. I completely agree with the healthy lifestyle, and we also like and have made craft beer! EEK! Safe travels to you both, continue to enjoy each day and here is hoping things will start coming down in price! /dls
I broke my ankle three years ago LOADING the rig for a Thanksgiiving weekend. Fell off the edge of our sidewalk carrying stuff. It happens. BTW, I stupidly powered on to complete the trip: a cave at Mammoth and a tour of a distillery.
Hey, I use Moon Mountain Mail for my domicile they are based in Quartzsite, AZ. Huge thanks to Bob’s (YT: Cheap RV Living) video he did with them. They have a few different options based on your needs, highly recommend checking them out!
We have a South Dakota domicile and also use Escapees for mail service. For your auto insurance, you will still need to provide a "garaging address" for each vehicle that will need to be in South Dakota. With your daughter on your policy, that might not be possible. I recommend giving Escapees a call to discuss your options. They've seen and heard it all.
Good video! I opted out of full Time RVING. I just downsized and built a Tiny home base . Just travel for days or months and return. Full time RVing is exhausting and expensive to me ! 😁
@@liketheresnotomorrow I did have a plan in place . I retired when I was 54 years old . Built the very small home on a 150 acre lake . Lots of family come and camp in my yard! lol 😂 I hear stories about many people that don’t have very good experiences with Camping and RVing . Maybe they don’t do their homework? Will check out more of your playlist! 😁👍
Small home on big land sounds heavenly. Good for you! I think we’ll eventually do that and Rv like half the year or so. Right now, we are loving the travel.
Hello. So Florida is the highest insurance, TX is next w/SD the lowest of the 3 (from talking to the insurance folks). But... SD has changed it rules as of 2023 regarding domicile & voting. Escapees website regarding domicile explains the change very well. So.. if ya still wanna vote.. SD is likely not going to work out. TX used to require an inspection each year, a friend in TX said that is going away except around the big cities, so that would be good. I was looking at TX, but my ID insurance is so much less even with paying income tax, I come out ahead in ID vs TX. Good luck. Thanks for sharing.
We just recently made Texas our home state. We were able to establish residency, transfer our titles, register to vote & get Texas DL in a couple of days, after gathering all our necessary documentation. Each County may do things differently, but in Hill County the Tax assessor and the DPS are in the same building. Literally across the hall from each other. The wait was not bad, and they were very helpful in guiding us through the process. We did have to do a vehicle test, but it was only $7- and took less than 10 mins.at a local shop. My understanding is that is going away, but even if its yearly, thats not bad. Our driver license were $35- and last 8 years. We have noticed that insurance rates for our vehicle are higher, but comparable to what we paid up in WA state. We actually bought a piece of property to park on when we are here; with plans to put a home on before we decide to come off the road. I imagine there are other ways to establish residency though. Hope this is helpful 😊
Our fiends sold everything a year ago and went off on their adventure. After many expensive truck repairs and health issues, they are back trying to put their life back together
That sad. We always tell people, if you’re going to attempt full-time, have an exit plan. If you can’t afford an exit plan, maybe just be a some-timer instead.
Your guys are awesome. My wife and I are in the process of selling our restaurant and house to pursue the full time RV life. We upgraded from our 2019 Crossroads Zinger Travel Trailer to a 2024 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLGS. Just waiting on the Colorado Snow to calm down so we can go pick it up. We are both pretty handy but my biggest concern is power. Our Jayco came with 400 watt solar setup but since we are going to be boondocking more, i don't want to be the guy running the generator all the time . What do you guys recommend as far as being more solar dependent? Thanks and safe travels
If you haven’t already, go back and watch our solar video. We give the consultant we used to help determine what we needed for what we wanted to run. That’s what really determines how much you need. ruclips.net/video/UpwgAYhqx7I/видео.htmlsi=QW_WI4mW9lvt12iz If you use that Redodo battery link in the video description, or our website, they will be starting their Black Friday sale soon. Great batteries for a great price.
Problem with mobile techs they are expensive and they usually have to order parts because they dont have them on hand. That can take a while and multiple visits.
We have used probably 8 mobile techs in our two years and none had to order parts, but it is possible depending on what’s wrong. They are more expensive BUT if a service place or dealer won’t guarantee any timeframe and your full-time, that aurbnb or hotel will far outweigh the extra cost of the mobile tech. If you have the time to wait, yes, would totally agree that some-timers or part-timers could get a better price if they can leave their rig.
Hi there, I'm new to full time rv life (leaving in Jan) and currently trying to figure out, drivers license, LLC, and insurance? I live in Florida. You mentioned you use Escapees for your domicile. Could you tell me more about that service? I don't see that on their website.
It's basically lumped in with their mail service. Here's a link.escapeesmailservice.com/how-escapees-mail-forwarding-service-works/ In FL, you get a domicile (home address) fort all official use. Like licenses, taxes, anything where you need FL residency. You get a separate mailing address (ours is in TX) for everything else, including all mail. They have great customer service. I just called them at the beginning to help me choose the right options. We LOVE this service. We also do the extra scanning option so that we can immediately see the contents of the mail pieces if we want. That way you don't have to send for your mail so often, you'll have a scan.
This is why we chose not to sell our home and everything and instead built out our Ford Excursion to travel in. Thankfully we didn't because our travels were put on hold when I got MRSA and Sepsis and ended up having emergancy surgery then a long hospital stay and daily treatment for months. We will always need a home to be able to go back to for situations like this or as we age.

Good video 😊 back in 2020 every body hit the road traveled coast to coast like you say lots of people have gotten off the road even the you tube channel's have slowed down no one will tell you what happened to those channel's there only making one video when they use make 3 there also big problem with rv manufacturers and dealers economy is in question could be the end for some I'm in California some dealers have closed doesn't seem it's going to get better soon 🤫
We have a 2023 Intech OVR Expedition. 400 watts solar with 200 amp hours lithium with 2000 watt inverter. We have 44 water/ 30 grey / 26 black. We are headed out in 2025 full time. Should we get a portable tank to empty black and Grey tank?
Depends. If it’s not that big of a deal to just go drive to a dump station and go back to your camping spot, no, you don’t really need a portable tank. I know many smaller rigs that just leave their stuff setup to hold their spot (chairs, rigs, grills etc) and drive to dump and come back. We are so big and have so much crap, that it’s a pain to do that. So a portable dump tank or tote is easier for us. You might just try it before you get the portable tank.
@@chadkoller7809we know people who choose to just take the rig, dump and come back. We won’t do it because our setup and teardown is to laborious. Plus, we’ve been in spots where it was tricky getting in and we didn’t want to put the rig through the road out anymore than we have to. It will vary from spot to spot. Now that we have that collapsible tote solution, it’s not as bulky as the last tote. It’s all personal preference I suppose
It would be interesting to chat with full timers who lived the dream for 20+ years to see if they regret selling their bricks and sticks for life on the road- thinking about the loss of real estate equity over those years in combination with owning a depreciating asset that has had an ongoing cost of maintenance along with rising overnight costs. I’d be curious to see how many would do it again.
We have no intention of full timing that long. That was never the goal. We have only met a couple of people who have done it that long. We will do it until we feel compelled to settle somewhere again. It’s not a forever thing for most. If you’re smart, you have an exit plan from day 1.
Not sure what you mean. Nothing interferes. Only thing we noticed is that the screen door opening had to be in the open positions when the door is shut. But you don’t need the screen door when it’s shut so not a problem.
@@liketheresnotomorrowYou know what, we fold the railing over the door when we travel. It never occurred to me to fold it the other way. I guess it would not cover it up then. Learn something new everyday.
Hi guys! Check out Big Truck Big Travels, they’re pretty interesting.I really enjoy their videos. Look forward to watching more of your travels. Be safe.😊
Texas is a nightmare for registering vehicles renewal every year, & inspections. My bf has to come back every November to 93°F w/90% humidity. He’s trying to bribe them right now into moving it a month ahead if he pays double. And there’s been the most insane shortage of Department of Motor Vehicles since 2017. Even though I had an appointment last year, I was there for 9 hours… didn’t even know they stayed open that long.
@@liketheresnotomorrow Not for all counties & not for all vehicles. It’s amazing how every two years they manage to make it more expensive & more complicated. Friends & family in other states can’t believe it. Just look at the website.
@@liketheresnotomorrow Not for all counties or all vehicles. Every few years they come up with new laws that sound great, but it’s always more complicated and more expensive than before. The county is where you pay property taxes & register vehicles. Lines are usually bad there, but I’ve never spent more than 3 hours in line, usually 30-50 minutes is the norm. DMV could be over a hundred miles away… that’s where you get your drivers license.. which I will never do in the state of Texas again.
Digital Marketing. We have worked from home and remotely for like 18 years. Independently and for an employer. Many jobs went digital with Covid but it varies company by company.
I don't think there is any particular trend. I think people tend to operate in cycles of a few years in length. So your cohort of RVers, who all joined the youtube RVer community around the same time may all be moving away from the lifestyle in similar timeframes, but there are plenty of us coming in to take their places, too - but we haven't been around long enough to feel like community members to the old hands, yet. We'll start making content in greater numbers as we gain experience and knowledge to share, and then our cohort will be the popular youtube RV channels for a few years, and then we'll grow out of it in a similar way and some new cohort will take over. I've seen similar patterns emerge in woodworking youtube, synthesizer youtube, home automation youtube - the long term folks start talking about how 'everyone' is leaving and moving to new interests but it only feels that way to the old hands.
Now you are talking about diet. That's another interesting one for me. I eat like absolute crap at home (recently divorced), so I'm looking forward to moving into my RV (under construction) precisely so I can force myself to stop with restaurants and processed food and encourage cooking by boondocking out where I don't have access to road and processed food. I could do that where I am now, of course, but I can walk downstairs and find a food truck or restaurant within a 5 minute walk, and that's just too convenient for me to do much cooking here.
I think most of us need to move more. And that will look different for everyone. Glad it’s finally hitting the mainstream, we need to stop eating frankinfoods. They aren’t the same food we grew up with. Eat real food and move more… RV forever 😉
Rv life means fun and being alive. House life means BORING and same day after day after day. Rv life it’s not for everyone only the strong minded people can understand this lifestyle. When people see an rv on the road they say “oh how nice they are having fun” i wish i could one day do that. But when you see someone going home,oh well she/he probably just came from work, tired and hungry 😅boring 😂life..
Not everyone that lives in a sticks & bricks is bored! That is just your opinion. I go RVing for days , weeks , or months. Nice to be able to come back to a tiny home base in Florida. 😁

always have an exit plan. sold the rv cause its to busy to much drama with camp grounds dry camping areas over crowed, ect. bought a 44 ft lagoon catamaran couldn't be happier. just complected my first circumnavigation around the world it took 8 years.
Wow! You’re an inspiration! What a cool transition.
Barry rockin the Rush t-shirt…best band of all time. Keep up the great content. We plan to join you on the road next year. Stay safe
Awesome. I’ll tell Barry. It was our son’s first concert I think.
Hey guys … great vid, all good points, and you two are pretty spot on! You guys look great! Hope all is well. Stay health, wealthy (RVing wealthy that is), and wise! MERICA! 🇺🇸😎👍🏼
Thanks for the kind words!
It’s always great to hear about different insurance companies people are using! Thanks so much.
Extended stays reduces travel days which reduces fuel cost and are usually a lot cheaper than nightly/weekly rates. Also. Mange your expectations. You're not on permanent vacation. Best way to start fulltime rving is to be totally debt free including your rv and tow vehicle.
You’re right, managing expectations is key! Thanks for watching.
/dls
We’re so excited for you! It’s a big decision and a lot of work. But if we can do it…. Anyone can. lol
I broke my ankle three years ago LOADING the rig for a Thanksgiiving weekend. Fell off the edge of our sidewalk carrying stuff. It happens. BTW, I stupidly powered on to complete the trip: a cave at Mammoth and a tour of a distillery.
Ouch! Glad you made it through the trip!
Thank you for all your information. Helps a lot
We’re so happy it was helpful for you!
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! We’re glad you liked it.
I would sign up for your chair yoga! Waiting for that weekly workout.
Ha! If there were about three of me I might be able to fit that in. lol
Hey, I use Moon Mountain Mail for my domicile they are based in Quartzsite, AZ. Huge thanks to Bob’s (YT: Cheap RV Living) video he did with them. They have a few different options based on your needs, highly recommend checking them out!
Cool: will look into that: appreciate the info
We have a South Dakota domicile and also use Escapees for mail service. For your auto insurance, you will still need to provide a "garaging address" for each vehicle that will need to be in South Dakota. With your daughter on your policy, that might not be possible. I recommend giving Escapees a call to discuss your options. They've seen and heard it all.
That is really good information to know. Thanks for sharing! What’s up with the voting issue in SD? I’ll ask when I call as well.
We've had Progressice since day one and was warned to not change because our rig is older and might become uninsurable. Know if this true?
I’m not sure about the insurance and older rigs. You’d have to talk to an agent you trust.
Good video! I opted out of full Time RVING. I just downsized and built a Tiny home base . Just travel for days or months and return. Full time RVing is exhausting and expensive to me ! 😁
It sounds like you found your perfect solution!

I did have a plan in place .

Very cool! 👍
Wow. That’s great info. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. This is helpful
@@patriciabaker9 yes Texas vehicle inspections are going away January 1 2025
Our fiends sold everything a year ago and went off on their adventure. After many expensive truck repairs and health issues, they are back trying to put their life back together
Sounds like they kinda got caught up in the hype! Maybe?🤔

If you use that Redodo battery link in the video description, or our website, they will be starting their Black Friday sale soon.
Here's a link.escapeesmailservice.com/how-escapees-mail-forwarding-service-works/
In FL, you get a domicile (home address) fort all official use.
It’s good that you are totally aware of what is best and most comfortable for you. That’s smart.
Good call ! 😁

Insurance! We feel your pain and we aren't even on the road yet lol. We have twin sons attending college Thanks again for another great video.
Insurance is a HUGE pain in the neck, haha!
You’re right, the whole RV industry has changed a lot.
@ so it’s not a big deal to just leave and empty your tanks and come back?
@@chadkoller7809we know people who choose to just take the rig, dump and come back. We won’t do it because our setup and teardown is to laborious. Plus, we’ve been in spots where it was tricky getting in and we didn’t want to put the rig through the road out anymore than we have to. It will vary from spot to spot. Now that we have that collapsible tote solution, it’s not as bulky as the last tote. It’s all personal preference I suppose
Texas vehicle insurance is REALLY expensive
Florida as well. Sigh. It may be SD after all. We shall see.
Great info.
Glad it was helpful!
Campgrounds are always our last choice .Tiny sites , big price
I have an Etsy shop and every time you used that cha Ching sound made me jump. LOL 😂
Hahaha awesome
Inflation is less than 3% the demand for spaces due to the demand is greater. That is not inflation, it is cost over demand.
Does the railing interfere with the keypad for the lock?
Not sure what you mean. Nothing interferes. Only thing we noticed is that the screen door opening had to be in the open positions when the door is shut. But you don’t need the screen door when it’s shut so not a problem.
@@liketheresnotomorrowYou know what, we fold the railing over the door when we travel. It never occurred to me to fold it the other way. I guess it would not cover it up then. Learn something new everyday.
@ ha! I know exactly what you mean now. Yep, I didn’t know that for the longest time. 😜
Hi guys! Check out Big Truck Big Travels, they’re pretty interesting.I really enjoy their videos. Look forward to watching more of your travels. Be safe.😊
I think we are subscribed already, but I’ll check. Thanks for the tip😜❤️
I refuse to take my rig to dealer. I fix it, or Alliance has got me a mobile tech so far.
💯
Texas is a nightmare for registering vehicles renewal every year, & inspections. My bf has to come back every November to 93°F w/90% humidity. He’s trying to bribe them right now into moving it a month ahead if he pays double. And there’s been the most insane shortage of Department of Motor Vehicles since 2017. Even though I had an appointment last year, I was there for 9 hours… didn’t even know they stayed open that long.
Wow. Thanks for the insights. I heard they were doing away with inspections???
Awaiting some chair yoga…
After all the comments about it… I may have to do something on it. lol
There was a lot of videos about SD domicile while still working so be sure to search for those to see if that would affect you negatively.
Thanks and will do
What kinds of careers are you each in that you can work remotely on a full time basis?
Digital Marketing. We have worked from home and remotely for like 18 years. Independently and for an employer. Many jobs went digital with Covid but it varies company by company.
Those are non-stinging midges,
I fell while moping my kitchen floor and split my head open, an accident can happen anywhere.
That is true - accidents can happen anywhere. Glad you are ok.

Yes, best to have home base or land to come back to. Its a good balance.
@@ralphp3057 sorry I didn’t mean it the way it sounds.i meant in general being stuck in a house 12 months a year it’s what will eat up our life.kudos to you that is a part time RVer .i do the same not because i can’t i am a solo traveler and it’s harder to be by yourself all the time so i kept my house to visit family and friends.but if i had someone i may have done it for a year.
