My son only gets more worked up the longer he cries, so we decided to cosleep and try again at 18 months, and that's ok for us!

I was so against that method until I tried it out (I was so tired and desperate I tried it) and it worked PERFECTLY! I didn't do the 5,10,15 minutes thing, I just let him cry out the fist night for 15 minutes then he felt asleep by his own and that was it!!! First days I was so scared cuz I thought I was "psychologically hurting him", but in the morning he was SO calmed, happy, easy going baby! He even wake up chatting and not asking for us to get him... So NO harm for sure! Letting them cry in some situations it's not bad for them, my baby is the happiest baby on earth and he feels so secure and loved.Thank you for standing up even if some people is gonna dislike it because of wrong ideas, the same wrong idea I had at the beginning before trying it Thank you for being honest and yourself

+Burus Mx I was the same as you against it but then got to breaking point and once I had done it - I wondered why I didn't sooner. We did it from day 1 with my second son and he is an amazing sleeper xx

      @aletteanne1 6 лет назад +2

I was the same! It’s amazing how much happier they are when they learn the skill of sleeping. When I would feed on demand all night with co-sleeping, he eventually got so demanding that he wanted to nurse constantly, and even that became not enough. He was in control, and he didn’t feel safe without Mommy giving boundaries.

Joanna Janina that’s dumb as hell. Cry it out method doesn’t mean make ur baby cry so much that they’re turning red and coughing etc. To ignorant to even fully understand the method.

i started this tonight. my son is 8 months and just got a new crib. but either way he's always been a bad sleeper. im exhausted. the
sleep deprivation since his birth has me depressed all day and now, it's effecting my health. in having migraines and heart palpitations which are triggering anxiety. my relationship it's stressed, and i am beginning to resent the baby. now i know that this issue has to be corrected for the sanity and wellbeing of the entire family. crying never killed a baby.

Thank you so much for this. I tried this method last night and it was a rough night but tonight was much better. My toddler fell asleep in minutes and is still sleeping 6 hours later. He has never slept so long. He usually gets up about every 2 or 3 hours to nurse. Wish I could buy you a cup of coffee for this. :)

I use to be against this method but my husband and I are getting no sleep! I always admire moms who had routines and can take care of themselves. They all tell me they did this method and their life has changed!!! I've tried EVERYTHING that doesn't involve crying and we still can't get any sleep. I have no time for anything, myself, to make videos, NOTHING! I love rocking my baby to sleep but it's getting so hard to do anything! It's so bad she doesn't nap that much during the day so I'm always exhausted! I'm desperate and living off coffee! I'm so doing this when my husband takes off work! Thanks Emily

+Joy Ferrell Aw Joy - I totally feel for you I was the exact same. I always thought I'd never let my baby cry but once I took huge step to do this method my baby sleeps through! It is a really hard 3 - 5 nights but then that's it forever. You don't want to be rocking your baby to sleep when they;re 4! xx

Its going to kill me! Im woke now just thinking about it, but I don't know what else to do! I do love rocking her and holding her and I get nervous I won't be able to bond with her other ways. I just feel overwhelmed, but I get no sleep and my hubby and I are also so sleepy!!!

    • @plxmi

Try this method! And do not forget, we are the ones initiating the attachment problem and perpetuating it. You'll be doing your baby a huge favour training them now how to sleep alone, does not imply in the slightest you are abandoning them or not catering to their needs (that's why the whole padding them on the tummy every 5 min until they fall asleep).

I love this...I love how you said you don't like to call it the "cry-it-out method" because it's a skill that is GOOD for them to learn. I've basically done this with my older two children but have mistakenly waited until they were much older. hoping I can make it happen with baby number 3 in a few months when she is a bit older. Thanks for the tips!

Just wanted to say thankyou for this Emily. There's alot of pressure on mums not to do sleep training and just to tough it out but at 6 months I couldn't cope any longer and we did a similar method to the one you described. Knowing that you did it too and are such a long and caring mum and your boys are clearly so happy and healthy makes me feel so much better. So thankyou!! xx

Thank you Emily for sharing this! I was so afraid of this method but we were at the point when my 9 month old son won't fall asleep on the breast anymore and was fighting me when I was sitting next to him and singing him songs / rubbing his back to help him fall asleep. I spent hours to get him fall asleep and was exhausted and he would wake up again in 40 minutes or so. Then I watched your video and you kind of reassured me to try Ferber as you are such a loving mother and if it worked for you I was happy to try it. It made such a difference! In a weeks time my son got the hang of falling asleep without me. He now sleeps so much better and I am happier too. Thank you for that!!

Thank you so much for this video! We’ve just tried this method tonight with my 10 month old son who also has sleep association due to his reflux we’ve always rocked him and held him to sleep but we can’t cope with the lack of sleep anymore! After 23 minutes he has fell asleep on his own in his crib for the first time ever! There was a lot of tears (on both end) but thank you so much it helps knowing other mums have done this I don’t feel so guilty now!

I know that this was posted two years ago but this video has helped me so much! Thank you Emily! :) My baby girl was waking up every two to three hours at night and went straight back to sleep during feeding. This went on for three months until I found this video :) after making sure she was well fed and ready to go to sleep I picked her up so that she was awake before I put her back in her cot and it worked like a charm on the first night. Now she sleeps throughout the night (even for 12 hrs!) and needs feeding only once.

Hiya Emily / Ladies ! 🤗 I really want to do this but I'm worried it'll psychologically/ emotionally alter my child in anyway 😫 Certain doctors say their brains are still developing and subjecting babies to high levels of cortisol (stress hormone) could cause certain parts of the brain to not develop properly. And that they only go silent because 'normally, when humans feel threatened, our bodies flood with stress hormones and we go into ‘fight’ or ‘flight’. However, babies can’t fight and they can’t flee, so they communicate their distress by crying. When infant cries are ignored, this trauma elicits a ‘freeze’ or ‘defeat’ response' ⁉️⁉️ Am I worrying too much ? I breastfeed and my 3 month old obviously has a sleep association ! It's tiring and stressful ! How are your babies emotional well-being? I really need to know guys ! Thanks so much for all responses ! 💜

Came over from your q&a(loved it😉)
... will try this on my sweet 4month old baby. She sleeps so well through the night and are happy to soothe with a pacifier during the night, but at bedtime she needs to be on my chest for at least 2 hours before I can put her to bed and then soothe with pacifier at least 2 to 3 times. Maybe not such a huge problem, but I do need to be available for my other 3 older children for their bedtimes too.

      @ksy4747 6 лет назад +4

Kv Denko that's bullshit. If she is giving the baby PLENTY of attention and love and affection in the waking hours and does the method correctly that gets washed away. Humans are a lot more resilient than you give them credit for. If we weren't, we would never make it this far as a species. I'm POSITIVE this mom loves her baby and gives it her best. And what is best for baby is a WELL functioning and loving parent, not a sleep depraved zombie who starts hating her life and her child. That's why sleep deprivation is a go to torture method. It really is a horrible thing.

Lol - I wrote this then realised I was subscribed on my husband's account - my husband is not pregnant - Iol - I am! I am pregnant with my first child and just watched this video. I see there are comments here that go against this method. Why do those people who hold that view feel its bad for a baby? I genuinely want to know why its not good so I can form my own opinion. How else would you get a baby to sleep who associates sleep with being on their mother's breast or being rocked to sleep etc? Wouldn't it be worse for a baby to not get enough sleep on all fronts that it break the cycle? I really want to know what it does to a child. I'm feeling Im missing something because long term I see a happy child who is getting enough sleep?

I need advice! I have a 7 week old baby girl who will not rest at night. I have two boys that are 6 and 8 years old, and I did the crying out method with them and it worked well. My daughter is a different story! She will scream and is completely inconsolable from about 9 PM until 3 AM (on average) everyday. I'm exhausted! I have tried everything from vibrating swings, front packs, swaddling, white noise, an auto-rocker, crying it out...you name it. I have given gas drops and gripe water, done babty massage and bicycle legs, checked temperature and taken her to the Doc to check for ear infection, she's fine. She will not sleep. She will cry in her room (or mine) for hours without stopping. What can I do??? Thanks in advance from a fried mum!

Hi Emily. Currently i been having problem during daytime. My baby doesn't want to be left alone and only have short naps like less than hour during the day. This disrupts my errands during the day like cooking and cleaning up which ends up making me very tired by the evening. I am running out ideas how to comfort and makes him sleep longer during the day. He's 3 months old now. Tried baby wearing , it somehow doesn't work for me with my hot and humid climate.

How did you make naps work ? We are going to start this on Friday. I've gotten his crib set up now and I'm getting him a mesh crib liner and a "Glow Worm" for the process. Ha ha wish of us

I love your channel! I'm a first time mom with an 8 month old...wish I found you a few months ago lol. My baby sleeps through the night most nights, not sure why she wakes up when she does but it's getting better. My question is how did you get him to sleep till 7am? My daughter wakes up at 5/5:30am without fail. 7am sounds like a dream! Any tips?

Emily Setten this is completely normalllll behavior for a five week old! It can be detrimental for your supply as well.

Do you follow the same method for day naps & when they wake through the night? My daughter is 10months - definitely has sleep association because I let her fall asleep on the breast then put her into bed with is if she wakes up through the night. How should I drop night feeds as well as teaching to self sooth? I'm happy to do this method, as I think it is effective.

I realise this is an old video Emily, but Im watching this in desperation haha! My 18 month old has been laid in his cot awake since he was weeks old, and he goes to sleep a dream! BUT, he has always been a bad sleeper and will wake up every 2 hours in a foul mood, even now. Ive been trying the Frober method since he was 6 months, and still no luck. :(

Hi Emily, I have been following your channel and love how you are so real, sweet and cheery ☺️
I recently found this video that you did some time back on the Ferber method.. Im wondering if you had to do the same with Caleb & Jacks or were they good sleepers or did you use other methods from the get go which worked all the way?
I have two boys ages 3.5 years & 9 months, and I love having boys, they are so much fun 😍. Anyway, my first was a terrible sleeper from the start, waking up the minute he is put down, and every 15mins or so...i was working full time in the day and rocking him to sleep full time at night 😧 we got so tired we co -slept with him until he was 2.
My 2nd one was a much better sleeper, sleeping through the night from the early days...up till now... For the past 2 months he has been waking up every 2-3 hours, at first it was teething, then sickness, then hunger coz he also started rejecting the bottle when I'm at work, then teething and sickness again. Now I don't know if he will ever go back to sleeping through the night or if I need to do something about it.
I do a bedtime routine of bath books and feed, and usually put him down drowsy but not asleep. But recently by the time we're done with dinner and getting both boys to bed, he's too tired and falls asleep while feeding. I think he has a sleep association to breastfeeding now and I don't know how to break it.
How do you cope with teething /sickness nights, and how do you get then to go back to sleeping through the night again?
I totally agree with you when you say you are a whole new person and a better happier person when your child sleeps through the night and you get enough sleep too! ☺️
I soooo need it now... 😜

yes! it concerns every single type of sleep,so every time baby goes to bed-he needs to have same thing routine no matyer what, otherwise it's gonna be confusing and will ruin everything (sorry for answering for Emily,I'm just a Mom who had that experience and it worked out perfect, since day 3 for us,one more thing-the sooner you star this method -thw the better and easier it will be,they say after 1 year old it's so much harder.....)

Was it harder when you did this with Fraser at 9 months vs your other boys younger? I need to sleep train my 8mo old daughter but now that she is mobile and can stand in crib I feel like it’ll be so much harder! Should have done this from the get go!

I’m exactly where you were, my daughter is 9 months old and she hasn’t slept through once yet I have to nurse her every 3 hours-ish through the night and I’m gearing myself up to do this so I can finally get some much needed sleep😩 I was just wondering tho, when she wakes in the night i feel I’ll need to nurse her at least once to wean her off it but she will fall asleep on me so is it best to wake her and do the whole crying method at 1am & 4am😭 too or can I put her down asleep and just concentrate on teaching her when I put her to bed? Please say yes, I don’t know if I can handle all that crying 😭

Emily PLEASE help... my son is 9 months old and he has fallen asleep on my breast every night of his life. when I put him in his crib awake and walk away he cries. when I go to check on him he is standing up holding on to the edge of the crib. I know you're not supposed to pick up the child or make eye contact. should I lay him back down each time I go in or do I wait and see if he figures out to lay down on his own? I'm afraid that he's going to get tired out from crying and end up getting hurt.

It's going alright -- taking less than 20 minutes to go down and still waking ~4 times, 2 of those times I'm nursing him since he's used to the boob all night. Plan on weaning him off of that later.... I haven't started naps however and I have NO CLUE how to do that. Initially we tried doing
The same with naps but he went an entire day without napping which was hell

My little one wake up like 3 time at night and screams then he wake up all street and neighbors puppies and ect. usually i take to my bed:( then he stops crying. I know its not the best thing to do, but I just worried to much about people around:(

Same here I have 3 other kids and am terrified of them all waking up from the baby so I just nurse her back to sleep. But the sleep deprivation is reeeeeaaal around here 😫. A friend told me she put her baby in a playpen downstairs and a baby monitor in her room and that way she could hear baby but if she let her cry it wouldn’t wake up the other kids. I’m not brave enough to try that yet but it may need to come to that!

I'm trying this with my 4.5 month old at the moment but I've been told to do every 2 mins at this age and not increasing? Am I not doing it properly? Tonight will be night 4, first two nights were good he actually slept 5hrs! (After constantly waking up every 90min-2hrs for weeks and weeks) but last night he only slept 3 hrs and wouldn't settle for 20 minutes or so. Does it get worse before it gets better?

I struggled with this a lot because my baby is sleeping 12 hours at 6 weeks old... and I thought how can’t he be hungry! I felt like I was neglecting him! But I asked the doctor, midwife, and my mom and they all said that it’s ok because they will eat more during the day (also as long as they are gaining weight it’s all good)

I want to now defiantly try this with my 13 month old. But he keeps standing up in the crib, so should I just lay him down every time I go in? Also in south Africa we don't have heating in our house's, so how do you cover your child with blankets again when he falls asleep? Cos when I check on him at night and do see he has rolled out of the blankets and I do cover him he wakes up. And its beginning of spring now but still really cold at night like between -4°C to 2°C. So I think if he is not covered he will wake up from cold again. I'm breastfeeding him to sleep now every time. But he only sleeps 2-3 hours at a time. So really want to get this done now and not have to wait till summer comes to do it.
