TOON MONSTERS ARE SO SCARY WHEN THEY ACTUALLY WORK! Hope you guys enjoyed this duel as much as we did! 😁 We're closing in on 600,000 Subscribers on the channel so please help us out if you're not already!
I think this series is REALLY helpful to illustrate like "why weren't Toons meta? Why was relinquished so strong?" Etc! Seeing it happen live makes it a really good history lesson
It's also particularly relatable for me cuz at that age I didn't know dedicated card shops were a thing, so my parents just bought me packs from Walmart, so between that and trading with friends, that's how I got all my cards. No buying specific decks like I do now, and more wild west strategies unless you happen to pull a lucky card. Brings up a lot of nostalgia.
OMG THE FIRST DUEL WAS ABSOLUTELY ENTERTAINING. This is the exact charm of the og yugioh. Getting the exact cards you need is so satisfying but also so entertaining when your opponent gets the exact cards they need as well
I love this series so much! I'm not gonna lie that I was fearing that some episodes in you guys might be locked into a strategy and the new cards from the packs would be less impactful, but you guys keep experimenting and it really brings the series together.
I love this series! Maybe I need to try out Goat format, or whatever the hell "Time Wizard" format is. This is what Yu-Gi-Oh was meant to be, not... the abomination it is today. Relinquished is on the field? Better side in Dark Hole or Raigeki, but watch out for Seven Tools or Solemn Judgment! Interaction (and a good bit of luck) is the name of the game, not "stop your opponent from playing the game at all costs"
Early toons really benefit from messenger of peace. It's like a poor man's swords of revealing light that toon mermaidcan attack through. I ran three of them in my goat toon deck. It was incredibly obnoxious :D
Misplay on duel #2 by Paul. Attacking with mother grizzly would have lowered life points enough to prevent the complete outcome of the copycat play from occurring (if I’m not mistaken) instead of summoning 4 toon mons.
Not that it effected much, but I don't believe you'd be able to float Toon Mermaid out with Mother Grizzly since it must first be special summoned from the hand! But ultimately, it was an amazing and nostalgic duel! Great videos guys!!!
17:36 GOLLY!! I thought the opening on both sides was something! But this!! What a turn for Paul… That’s sick! Tops all the twin headed thunder dragon ace plays in these duels lol 😆 But from the start was rooting for Alec, usually just enjoy the duel BUT knowing it ends once one person hits 5 wins… REALLY wanted Alec to win so it’s guaranteed to go on that much longer…
Might be the best video in the series. Perfect pace for the pack opening, Mario music, and then basically skipping right to the duel with commentary in between talking about the deck changes. Duels were fire with pretty much every major deck threat making an appearance. Just need a black pendant dark magician blue eyes to hit the board and a kuriboh play
Well, yes and no. I genuinely was curious if the Toon cards could at least be playable. They didn't quite cut it, but there's at least something there. We definitely still needed Toon Table of Contents at least, though. 😅
@@TeamAPS Summoning four monsters at once was very good considering the card pool, if nothing else they could be tribute fodder for the Blue-eyes. So some playability is there.
That (from your hand) is devious. Tbh if you could special summon them from anywhere, I think it'd help to make them a bit more viable without making them too strong. As long as you have Toon World out, you should be able to Special Summon them via any method, not just their own.
I thought that at first but I took a look at the errata for the Retro Repack. It only says it can only be special summoned if Toon World is in play. So there's nothing about only summoning from the hand via its own effect like there originally was.
This set uses the original effects of the cards and the original Magic Ruler version doesn't stipulate from your hand, just that toon world is in play.
@@Player_RedactedToon Mermaid (and other toons) got errata’s to let them be special summoned in general as long as Toon World is on the field. So while the original text/effect would make it an illegal play, modern day toons can indeed be special summoned the way Paul did. At least non-tribute Toons.
I thought the first duel was close and then the second one was just as good. Love the series guys! Glad ur keeping in the part where you go thru the cards as u open the packs instead of fast fowarding :)
I love these episodes.. makes me feel nostalgic, takes me back to my young’n days. This is one hobby I think about getting back into. Thank you Team APS for the content!
Glad to see Twin Headed Thunder Dragon see play. Favourite classic fusion monster, which actually feels like a cheat mode how insanely consistent it is thanks to the Thunder Dragons effect.
THIS EPISODE WAS SO HYPE! LOVE THIS SERIES! Me and my friends have started doing this cause of you guys. We're 6 boxes in each deck and I think next box will have our duels really hype like this
That first duel was so great 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Paul, I hope you continue using the toons for one more duel; maybe when you get another toon world, it will help the strategy.
My wife and I are actually doing this as her introduction to the series. She pulled four Time Wizards today and we each pulled Gate Guardian. Shes about to start building her first deck from a pretty amazing card pool.
I love this series, m'dudes. Really takes me back to opening packs up with friends and hyping up each other's pulls. Also love that you finally pulled the BEWDiful Blue-Eyes
Man I don't even play Yu-gi-oh, but I couldn't help myself but to get fucking HYPED when Paul pulled his Solemn Judgement against Alec's own. It's so nice to see two people enjoying the game, for once.
As a reminder Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon has 2100 Defense. So could have stalled a bit in game 2. Lack of Germs also killed you that game apparently. 22:30 Relinquished Take Control of your Facedown. It then attacks Maha Veilo. As it has 3050 and you only have 2850 left, Relinquished bounces the damage back and wins.
Ha my experience with toons back in the day played out very similarly, I honestly think they would be better if just the summon sickness was taken away from all of them. I think Paul would have won if Alec didn't have the time to respond esp in that round where Paul got a few out on the same turn.
i may not know the new metas or even fully understant how some of the newer rules and ways to play but yugioh will always have a special place in my heart i will always love it
Man I love this series 👍🏻 When Paul added the Toons, I had a feelings his deck becomes a bit too clunky. Toon just are too slow, even back then. But would've loved them to work in the second duel.
SPOILERS AHEAD - - - Duel 1 The 7 Tools negate on Solemn, followed by the Solemn negate on Solemn had me losing my mind. Never seen that happen in a live duel before. Then having Axe, and Pendant to have exactly enough damage to win?! Love watching these duels! Duel 2 This one was so close! 100 LP remaining after that genius Angel play into Copycat. Getting beat by Giant Germ HAS to feel rough though. That Wall removing Twin was clutch too! Duel 3 What a sweep. Too bad Paul bricked so badly. To be fair he was using Toons. Looking forward to the next episode. Great vid guys!
At less than 1,000 LP, it's nearly impossible to deal with two Giant Germs without getting cooked. With how tough the Toons are to work with, I won't be surprised if Paul just switches strategies to put some focus on his new Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but he'll still have those pesky Relinquished to watch out for.

The more I think about this series doing an Exodia deck isn't too bad. Lots of deck thinning cards, thunder dragons, mystic tomato and friends, giant germ, nimble momonga. Swords of Revealing Light for stalling. Graceful charity and upstart goblin. Good walls like wall of illusion. Cards like hane hane, penguin soldier and man Eater bug. You also have Sangan a good searcher.

Hello , The Episode is Great. I enjoyed The Duel and I am Subscribed to all Your channels. I wish you to reach 600,000 Subscribers Soon.
😂😂 Toon world needs a effect.
Nice pull on the Blue-Eyes, Paul. Congrats.
I Saved the Retro Rivals Playlist 😮
@@TeamAPS wanna duel with you guys so bad
I think this series is REALLY helpful to illustrate like "why weren't Toons meta? Why was relinquished so strong?" Etc! Seeing it happen live makes it a really good history lesson
Even when they did get stuff like Toon Table, Toon Dark Magician Girl around 2005 it still wasn't enough to make it remotely playable
Youre making us feel old but you’re right
It made me think of the last time I saw a card that had a downside like not being able to attack the turn it's summoned.
OMG THE FIRST DUEL WAS ABSOLUTELY ENTERTAINING. This is the exact charm of the og yugioh. Getting the exact cards you need is so satisfying but also so entertaining when your opponent gets the exact cards they need as well
Paul doing the forbidden memories gameplay, fusing into Twin headed thunder dragon and giving him bunch of equipements
I miss that game.
Where’s Cosmo Queen? 🤓
“Thank goodness I didn’t have to kill anyone for it” shortly after the words “this week” then the hard stare at the camera lmfao
The twin headed thunder dragon + the equips called back some forbidden memories.
I see what you did there
Been playing the game recently
I love this series so much!
I'm not gonna lie that I was fearing that some episodes in you guys might be locked into a strategy and the new cards from the packs would be less impactful, but you guys keep experimenting and it really brings the series together.
😂 Paul hears that the walmart has restocked and puts away his gamestop shiv
I love this series! Maybe I need to try out Goat format, or whatever the hell "Time Wizard" format is. This is what Yu-Gi-Oh was meant to be, not... the abomination it is today. And now, thanks to Team APS, I can relive my childhood while I put up groceries.
OMG!!! Those solemn judgment chains, poly, sangan, tomatoes, all of that is the Yugioh I played as a kid, I LOOOVEE THIS SERIES!!! TY SO MUCH GUYS!
Misplay on duel #2 by Paul. Attacking with mother grizzly would have lowered life points enough to prevent the complete outcome of the copycat play from occurring (if I’m not mistaken) instead of summoning 4 toon mons.
Copycat's MVP and that was a hilarious chain of battles in game 1 XD Love this series and thanks for keeping it alive, guys!
I love the running gag of Paul killing people for ygo packs lol.
Heh yeah... "gag"
I legit think he's hiding something
Not that it effected much, but I don't believe you'd be able to float Toon Mermaid out with Mother Grizzly since it must first be special summoned from the hand! But ultimately, it was an amazing and nostalgic duel! Great videos guys!!!
These duels are better than YCS streams and even MD streams. Just my opinion.
Not Alec halving his own lifepoints into the exact number Paul needed to win that duel LOL
Edit: And the two Yusei token cards still in plastic?! LOL
You really got me with the Yoshi's Island music.
17:36 GOLLY!! I thought the opening on both sides was something! But this!! What a turn for Paul… That’s sick! Tops all the twin headed thunder dragon ace plays in these duels lol 😆

Paul playing toons to prolong the series shows he cares more about the fans than winning.
So some playability is there.
this duels are actually very amazing excited and wholesome i really really love watching these
This is my favorite series on the channel! So simple and so fun
11:23 I don't think mother grizzly can summon out toon mermaid since it must be special summoned from the hand.
That (from your hand) is devious. Tbh if you could special summon them from anywhere, I think it'd help to make them a bit more viable without making them too strong. As long as you have Toon World out, you should be able to Special Summon them via any method, not just their own.

This is my favorite episode of the series till now! The duels were just so funny to watch
I thought the first duel was close and then the second one was just as good. Love the series guys! Glad ur keeping in the part where you go thru the cards as u open the packs instead of fast fowarding :)
This series is lit,
It’d be awesome for you guys to do this with other older (but newer than this) school YuGiOh packs/sets
This is an incredible series. It has the feeling that I want from a YGO match. 10/10
I love these episodes.. makes me feel nostalgic, takes me back to my young’n days. This is one hobby I think about getting back into. Thank you Team APS for the content!
11:54, that was great. Good duels.
It was nice to see the Toons get played, at least! And the win conditions in this Joey vs Pegasus character duel were fun!
Glad to see Twin Headed Thunder Dragon see play. Favourite classic fusion monster, which actually feels like a cheat mode how insanely consistent it is thanks to the Thunder Dragons effect.
Exactly why I love old Yugioh. Please keep this series going.
Gaw these duels were so much fun. This is definitely one of my favorite series on youtube right now
Round one was so fun paul with the turn around well played guys shutting down those toons was paramount and you rocked it
Id like to see more short series in this exact format. The mystery boxes I don't think work for it, but stuff like this is great!
THIS EPISODE WAS SO HYPE! LOVE THIS SERIES! Me and my friends have started doing this cause of you guys. We're 6 boxes in each deck and I think next box will have our duels really hype like this
This was great love the series. I really enjoyed the little after each match talk on the cards that effected or ended the game.
PAUL YOU CAN'T JUST HIT ME WITH PAPER MARIO MUSIC LIKE THAT
Also Get Fuzzy Get Dizzy from Yoshi's Island was fun to hear lol
Bro had everything he needed in game 3. Couldnt have worked out more perfect for him.
That first duel was so great 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Paul, I hope you continue using the toons for one more duel; maybe when you get another toon world, it will help the strategy.
This series rocks! Cant wait for episode 6
This series is one of those you just gotta click as soon as you see it. 😊
My wife and I are actually doing this as her introduction to the series. She pulled four Time Wizards today and we each pulled Gate Guardian. Shes about to start building her first deck from a pretty amazing card pool.
I appreciate the Paper Mario music in the background!
Not quite. Same franchise, wrong game. It was the theme for the 2nd phase Baby Bowser fight, the final boss of good ol' 𝘠𝘰𝘴𝘩𝘪'𝘴 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 for SNES.
@@apostleianlovelette Oh is it? It's also the theme of Yoshi's Island in Paper Mario. I guess they reused it.
I love this series, m'dudes. Really takes me back to opening packs up with friends and hyping up each other's pulls. Also love that you finally pulled the BEWDiful Blue-Eyes
Although it didn't work out, I appreciate trying to make Toon World work. That summoning spree was amazing!
Man I don't even play Yu-gi-oh, but I couldn't help myself but to get fucking HYPED when Paul pulled his Solemn Judgement against Alec's own. It's so nice to see two people enjoying the game, for once.
That first duel was awesome! LOL holy crap I did not expect these decks to go that hard
Absolutely loving this series! I hope it goes on for many more episodes to come!
If you ever kill someone for a retro pack, Paul, don't forget to get on video! That's something I want to see!
my FAVORITE yugioh series! i look forward to this so much. shame the toons arent very good but it WAS entertaining
That Twin headed Thunder dragon play on the first duel! I clapped while watching this! Good Job!! 👍🎉
*rubs hands together*
Ohhh i been WAITIN for this one!!!

It's so funny to be here this early and see comments hidden from the butt bots!
really liked how you put both of the decks side by side that was neat
12:47 you totally did, that was a fun duel
Love this series! SO nice to see all the old cards getting played.
It was fun to see some of the old stuff in action!
Love this series Team APS! Hopefully this can continue and I’m still waiting for the other series with Alex & Alex!
i may not know the new metas or even fully understant how some of the newer rules and ways to play but yugioh will always have a special place in my heart i will always love it
I love this series
What a comeback in game 2!
i love seeing how much effort you guys put into this!
i enjoy watching these!
Thank you paul you cracked my Pegasus conundrum with that sick toon field play
The Yoshi's Island soundtrack made my day! Great duels guys
Holy crap that second game was INSANE! Down to the wire with Alec only having 100 LP left.
this is my favourite yt series atm, and i dont even play yugioh!!!
Relinquished showing why it's still one of the best OG cards still around. ❤
These duels are awesome! Brings me back to my child hood. Speaking of that I've got to dust off my SNES mini and play some Yoshi's Island now.
These videos make me so happy to watch!!!
These decks are getting really fire!!
Even more Joey Wheeler energy, ya love to see it.
This what Yugiohs is all about. Gradualling building up a deck through booster packs and having fun, turn by turn plays that also need a bit of luck.
Super happy with this series so far! I'm really motivated to build a Yugioh Cube based on some of the themes from this set!
That's a great idea!
Man I love this series 👍🏻
When Paul added the Toons, I had a feelings his deck becomes a bit too clunky. Toon just are too slow, even back then. But would've loved them to work in the second duel.

Paul and his dayum Thunder Dragons!
Just subbed!! This is my favorite yugioh show on RUclips right now!
awesome series. The retro dules are my absolute favorites
O primeiro duelo Paul virou o jogo de forma incrível, finalmente Alec venceu uma, conseguiu duas consecutivas.
Thanks to you guys who I found specifically through this series I've been getting back into the anime. Thanks boys great chanle God bless
Alec out playing the Toon World game ender was masterful.
I love this series, keep up with the good work guys
Really fun episode. Enjoyed this one a lot.
Alec is definitely the Joey of APS
I love these Field Spell names
*Molten Destruction!*
*Mystic Plasma Zone!*
*Gaia Power!*
...
Sea Dolphin. lol
Words cannot describe how eagerly I wait for the new eps, guys!
Love these videos! I still can’t find a single box or booster for this set lol. Walmart, target, even online it’s all sold out:/
that top deck for game 1 was fkn insane!
Retro Gang Unite!
Please see if you guys can use Red eyes B Skull! ❤
I like both Paul and Alec so much it's almost impossible to know who to root for! ;.;
Paul with plot armor in duel #1. Pure anime ending
epic match this time!!! fun to watch series thank you!
The first duel actually felt like a yugioh episode. Amazing.
