Thank you for your reaction :)
    A bit of background:
It's the first single from Saltatio Mortis' upcoming concept album Finsterwacht, an hommage to German tabletop RPG Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE) for it's 40 years aniversary. The box contains the CD, a novel, a tabletop adventure book (choose your own adventure style) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band, but they also mix in different music styles.
Finsterwacht are a line of towers/beacons in the mountains of Finsterkamm, as last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs at Heldentrutz, a part of Weiden in the Middenrealm at the continent of Aventuria. Their function is to warn the people as seen in the video.
The video took 4 days of shooting, with a lot of LARPers - which is why they have such good costumes. The choir at the beginning and end is from Prague. Hansi from Blind Guardian sings at the chorus, sometimes alone, sometimes with Saltatio Mortis' lead singer Alea.

Saltatio Mortis do more medieval folk metal, while Blind Guardian are quite known for power metal. And both bands have a knack for fantasy-related themes, hence the collab. - I think they merged their respective styles for this song quite well.
Saltatio Mortis have two bagpipe players (one of whom also is a builder of bagpipes), and one hurdygurdy, so, yep, what you hear here are very most likely bagpipes.
The video was actually shot in only 4 days. Some of the band members are doing LARP (live action role playing) and medieval reenactment, so all the people seen in this video, including the orcs, were from that background, bringing their own stuff along. Sadly, Blind Guardian had no business going LARPing, so they can only be heard in this video, not seen.

This Mittelalter Metal (Medieval metal) There is a huge scene in Germany With Saltatio Mortis, Feuerchwanz and In Extremo leading the charge. These bands all make heavy use of traditional instruments like Bagpipes, Violin, whistles and Hurdy Gurdies.
The Finsterwacht CD ships with a D&D type game called DSA for Das Schwarze Auge (DSA, The Dark Eye)

This video is the first release of what is called "Finsterwacht" - an insane project by the very well known "folk/medival metal" Band Saltatio Mortis, the german fantasy writers "Bernhard Hennen" & "Torsten Weitze" (two of the biggest names in German Fantasy writing") and the pen & Paper game "Das Schwarze Auge" - the german version of Dungeons and Dragons basically.
Band and writers met to layout a story places in aventurien, the world of Das Schwarze Auge - the band made the audio album and the writers wrote a book, in which the bandmembers play mayor roles.
The video here combines the meaning of "Finsterwacht" - which is a group of watchmen, who guard the realm of men from the evil side of orcs and other monsters. Whenever the monsters attack, the watchmen light up "Die Feuer der Finsterwacht" - a chain of watchtowers to warn the humans of the approaching thread.
The dude with the curly hair handing in the scroll, is actually Bernhard Hennen - the German Tolkien - who is a lifetime friend of Hudry gurdy player Falk (the guy who throws the torch into the watchtower)... Its a pretty insane project of friends who in their respected areas they all became experts.

The whole lore is based on a PnP Game, called "Das schwarze Auge" or "The black Eye" its legendary for almost 4 decades, it is a german counterpart to DnD, and the guys from Saltatio Mortis (and of course from Blind Guardian) are fans and or players! The Lore has a strong connection to Tolkiens worlds, but made a whole new thing. Thats why there are Orks.

Well, the song and the video were made for the 40th anniversary of a a German D&D-style game, so all the "epicness" is definitely to be taken with a grain of salt.
Read, it is more derived from the game than from the usual style of the band. It suits the RPG campaign the song is associated with very well, though. Which is essentially what the video was made for.
The band have done several gaming-associated videos so far (next to many more conventional ones) because they just have fun with these shenanigans. One song (Pray to the Hunter) was even officially requested by Bethesda and was used for Elder Scrolls Online, and they went completely for the look of the ESO game in that one. But I see where this sort of stuff might actually seem a bit weird if one is not into that kind of things at all.
