April's Bucket List: Visiting Arizona's Meteor Crater

The giant hole in the ground is about halfway between Flagstaff and Winslow off Interstate 40.

I remember when it was a dirt road right up the the crater with a bit of dirt parking. You would walk right up to the crater, no fence, no park, no people around. If you fell in, oh well. It was free, too.

If you're going to see the big hole in the desert, treat yourself to a stay at the Wig Wam Motel in Holbrook. A Route 66 gem!
