  • These are the Arrau scenes from the documentary Memories of Berlin (1976). Arrau visits the site of the Stern Conservatory where he used to teach, and discusses other musicians of the early 20th century. There's also some video of him playing part of Schumann's ABEGG variations.

      it's very interesting to hear him speak regardless. never heard him talk before...only heard him talk through his music, so to speak..

    Maestro Arrau mentions Teresa Carreño as one of the greatest pianists he ever heard.

    he is accompanied by my pianoteacher johannes marquard, kantor in gustaf adolf church. nice to see them again

    Er ist nun unter den Göttern der Pianisten ( Liszt, Chopin, Paderewski, Kalkbrenner, Alkan, Busoni, D’Albert, Anton und Artur Rubinstein etc…), und kann sich dort wirklich sehen lassen!

      The best pianists are Really=Wilhelm Kempff( the most beautiful piano sound!) Emil Gilels( The King!) Artur Rubinstein( the God!) Grigory Sokolov( The Giant of Piano! The Titan of Piano!) Sviatoslav Richter Maurizio Pollini( the Genius!) Radu Lupu( the most colorful sound!) Vladimir Ashkenazy( vocano colorful piano sound!) Solomom Cutner( best structure for music!)
