    I’ve only just purchased this guitar from Amazon and it has shipped. This morning I was suffering a touch of Buyer’s Remorse. I’m 5’2 and have been playing a full sized Goya for decades with all the challenges facing a small hands person. This is my first experience buying a new and relatively unknown maker guitar Suffering a “What have I done?” moment, I found your page. Thank you so much for your posted review. I’m feeling excited now. My new guitar will arrive on Saturday. I will be sitting on the porch awaiting the Amazon van !

      How was the transition from your Goya to this C9? I've been playing a Goya g-30 full size (body actually feels slighly larger than a standard classical) for many years and I'm considering trying this one with the 630mm scale. Would love to hear your update.

    Bradfords review helped me a lot to make the decision to actually buy this guitar. Now I am very happy with it. The size didn't worry me too much. Coming from a guitar with a nut width/scale length of 47mm/61cm, I feel this size fits me perfectly (I'm a normal 5ft 7in tall person). It was his comments about the sound (despite the smaller body) that reassured me and gave me the confidence to buy this model. I've had the guitar for a while now and I especially like the "sweetness" in the sound, as he called it, of the higher notes. Occasionally I play some higher notes (Tarrega's Adelita e.g.), just to listen and enjoy their sound (and repeat it over and over). Very nice review!

    I don't know anything about Cordoba Guitars. So, I went to our local Guitar Store and bought Cordoba Luthier Series C9 CD All-Solid, Cedar Top, normal size guitar. I paid $970 for the guitar together with wonderful case. Oh, my God! It's such a pleasure to practice! It is so easy to take barre chords! Now I have been practicing for hours without any breaks. And I really don't care that it's made in China. It is light, very beautiful and sounds great.

    Like me if you mainly play steel strung acoustic fingerstyle , jumping from that to a classical guitar you would find 50mm nut a lot better than the 52mm you fine on most classical guitars, and for some pieces of fingerstyle music you would find this type of guitar easier to play, which is one reason acoustic players would bye one in the first place...Always value your reviews and would make a purchase based on them more than most reviews i come across

    I bought a c7 somewhat recently as my first classical guitar. I am finding that as I am playing harder rep, my stubby fingers are really struggling with fingerings and it is quite unenjoyable to play. I am thinking of buying a Parlor size. I know Cordoba has some, including a cheaper one (the Dulce model). Do you know of other brands that offer smaller classical guitars? Do you think springing for the C9 over the $350 Dulce model is worth it as a newer guitar player? Thanks!

I currently have a full size Cordoba Fusion Maple 🍁 12 guitar and since it’s a fusion the neck is 48mm which feels a little tight. Hello! Thank you for posting this. I wanted to reach out and ask which is more important for small hands- the nut width or scale length? It seems that with classical guitars, if I choose a smaller scale length of 630 mm, I have a 50 mm nut width, but if I choose a 48 mm nut width, I only find a 650 mm scale length. For reference, I am 5 ft tall and had to purchase a custom built acoustic guitar. I am starting classical guitar for college, and was thinking the smaller scale length would be more important than the nut width, and that the added small body of the parlor would make classical guitar positioning easier for me. Any thoughts/help with this would be much appreciated!

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  4 года назад +1

      If you are in a post-secondary program for classical guitar I would stick to regular string spacing but maybe get a smaller scale length. At more advanced levels you might need the spacing for the complexity of the work. I mean, you can make anything work but that is my personal experience. The parlor might not be for you, you might want to look at actual small scale instruments by luthiers (I know, the price is steep). That said, talk with your teacher, they will be the opinion that matters in your case.

    So I'm very torn after watching your various videos. I'm brand new to any kind of guitar but played piano since I was little. I'm a smaller female 115 lbs 5'5" but my hands can reach the piano octave+1 (c to d) fine with decent stretch. I have an appreciation for great classical instruments and the differences between piano brands are huge - makes me want to play or avoid it. With your videos, I was considering Cordoba C10 cedar (appreciate the warmer sound than spruce), then noticed a big difference in C12 cedar in loudness and resonance. The only guitar I've ever held is Ibanez steel-string acoustic that I bought literally last week but the steel strings are killing my fingertips, and definitely leaning towards classic in style than strumming against all my friends' recommendations. Now I want to get a good classical guitar without needing to upgrade or have buyer's remorse given my retirement age, but I wonder if I should get a C9 parlor given my size to help with playability or stretch my budget to get C12 standard, or just get a C10 since I'll probably never perform at a concert hall? Is parlor size frowned upon by more purists? Please help.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 года назад +1

      If you've been playing steel-string you might appreciate the smaller parlor string spacing. For more advanced repertoire or concert/ensemble playing I would certainly want the C12. The C12 is the more serious instrument but totally up to you.

    I’ve got a Concerto Grande BM Spanish guitar 1980’s with massive intonation leading to an excessive action resulting in a play-style with a fair bit of buzz from the metal strings. I’ve thought to just go low tension strings or full nylon, any ideas?
    Also the bracing has gaps and I wonder if placing wedges into the gaps would fix the intenation?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  2 года назад

      The intonation would not be affected by the bracing. Maybe the neck is warped a bit? Might just need a new bridge and nut setup but if the neck is out it's a tough fix. What do you mean by "metal strings", do you mean the wound bass strings? Steel-strings can damage classical guitars and would certainly cause issues.

    • @user-yx7dp2pl8t
      @user-yx7dp2pl8t 2 года назад

      @@Thisisclassicalguitar I took the steel strings off and left them in the guitar case, if you can find a way to certify that they were steel wound strings that would be great for lack of a better I do apologise. Now then Thank-you for the informing myself of the intonation caused by the steel strings and that the bracing is not at fault, I’ve appreciated your input. Now then I can see that the Ebony wood? Is coming away from the neck as the headstock white material piece where the strings go is out of place in my opinion as it is pressed against the headstock. In addition it seems the string plate is coming away from the body as the strings lose tension daily even after playing a few heavy notes it’s not singing out it’s energy anymore, I would like to say thankyou for reading And I will aquire some epoxy resin for the string plate and hope this resin doesn’t suck the lifeforce out of the guitar. I am trying to decide between this guitar with spruce top (still unsure whether spruce is available for this guitar or not?), or the C9 crossover, or the C9e Luthier series.
    There is a video here on RUclips with the C9e. The C9e apparently sounds better than all the other C9 models. But I have a couple of dilemmas, because I need a crossover model to play Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed Country fingerstyle guitar. I think the crossover C9 is the physically best choice.
    I already have a Paco Castillo 205, which has normal classic guitar dimensions like the C9e.
    Furthermore I have shoulder problems, so I really should buy the C9 spruce parlor.

    i think that mahogany back and sides is the best body, because whether you play classical, jazz, flamenco, it just fit in, unlike other b&s woods, for example , bubinga back and sides, it sounds glassy, best for jazz but not for classical music. Rosewood best for classical, but sounds too dark for a flamenco dance.

    What's the difference between the C9 and the C10 parlor guitars?

  • @linberl
    @linberl 4 года назад

    I'm torn between the C10 spruce and cedar. I've listened to your Weiss piece on each, over and over, (granted the cedar is the C9). It sounds to me like the spruce highlights the upper and lower sounds and has much less mid. The cedar has a lot more mid, the upper notes are still fairly bell-like, but the bass is more boomy. I'm wondering how that would change with the rosewood/cedar combo? My ears like bell-like trebles and not super boomy bass, but I don't want to give up the mids, either, lol. So I was thinking cedar/rosewood would be somewhere between the C9 cedar/mahogany and the spruce/rosewood tonally. Would appreciate your thoughts since I can't play before I buy.

    Can you explain the difference in sound and playability between C9 and C12? I heard many reviews that put the C9 over the C10 and C12. Maybe for the fan bracing?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  5 лет назад

      Different design and woods. If you want to play in concert halls and have a better chance keeping up with expensive guitars go with the C12. Otherwise, for the hobbyist practicing at home the C10 (or C9) will do it.

  • @alizayed8920
    @alizayed8920 3 года назад

    Actually bigger guitar has more bass and more volume and big sound but i think playability is more important than the sound . And also volume dosn't really matter when it comes to studio recording so i think its a perfect guitar for someone who need something like this

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 года назад

      True but remember that there are differences between the idea of the sound being "big", or "loud", or "projecting well". Flutes don't sound big but there sure are freaking loud!

    Hello, do you know what's the difference between this guitar and Crodoba C9 Spurce?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  7 лет назад +1

      I haven't tried it but the spruce is probably a bit tighter and maybe brighter sounding although will have nice clear bell-like sounds. That a generalization about spruce guitars though...

    I am just a student and have all types of guitars, but really beginning to like standards and classical on nylon strings. I would love a C9, but not thinking I am ready for that yet. So perhaps a C5 or the Dolce (7/8) version of that guitar. Do you have a preference for beginner/intermediate players? Going to see if you have reviews of the less expensive Cordobas. I have a Mini M, just for the smallest guitar I could travel with, and love the fit and finish for the price.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  7 лет назад

      Even the lower mid-range Cordobas have solid tops which is nice. The C5 is pretty good.

      I ended up with the Dolce.. which they should REALLY call the C5 parlor IMHO! Thanks. It has a really big sound and the neck is about as big as I could feel comfortable with. Have small hands and short arms. Seems well made and a good value.

      I would recommend just regular D'Addario pro-arte clear nylon strings for the spruce. If you want a brighter sound that projects more try a carbon set from d'Addario or the Allience set from Savarez. Or, use a hybrid as I do: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/classical-guitar-store-reviews/

      To be honest, the majority of issues related to stretch are guitar and hand positions. Small subtle changes can really make stretches possible. Check out this lesson: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/lesson-left-hand-stretches-on-guitar/

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar

      Nut widths are usually 52mm on most full sized guitars. But the parlor here also has a small profile neck so it feels small as well as having the smaller nut width.
