- Deep in the labyrinthine heart of Oaxaca’s Central de Abastos, Doña Rosa has been selling quality-made tortilla presses to locals for longer than she can recall. We spent countless trips to Oaxaca loading up on presses to bring back over the border for friends and family. Entertained by our efforts, Doña Rosa eventually agreed to make a limited number of presses just for Masienda. Our family is a big fan of the Masienda blue and yellow masa. I’ve used my Victoria for years now. After seeing the story behind this family dynasty I’m going out right away and grabbing one. Heirloom quality with a great history and story behind it.
I been wanting to get a large press. $95 USD for the 12" while looking around found the Tlayuda 17 inch plus for $225 I'm going big. Will be ordering mine shorty. Be careful not to buy the cheap Chinese copies as the reviews are not good...

Hice una prensa de madera casera, pero después de poner mucha fuerza en la palanca la masa se vuelve diminuta y no aumenta de diámetro. ¡Decepción!😭😭😭Brasil!

When I first wanted to buy a large press a couple of years ago they were sold out by the time I quit waffling about the decision. Then I’d forget I wanted one. Perhaps it’s time to buy now.

The difference from our old rough surface Tortilla press and the Dona Rosa is night and day! Peeling the plastic off the Tortilla is so easy now. It is worth every peso!

Alguien sabe o a tenido algun problema con la tortillera tales como que se oxide se manches? En ningun lado encuentro el material que usan para fabricarla.
Pues es que es de acero por lo que si se moja se puede oxidar
Me parece que es hierro al carbono.Si se oxidad si no se pinta con pintura anticorrosiva

Hola! Nuestra prensa está diseñada para tortillas de maíz, ¡pero también hemos tenido éxito usándola para harina! (Algunas personas prefieren enrollar las tortillas de harina a mano para ayudar a desarrollar el gluten).
@@Masienda si prove para hacer tortillas de Harina con papel aluminio porq con plástico se pega y pues se estiran lo normal luego lo hice con las manos , ayudo hacerla una manera más rápida .

The Dona Rosa Tortilla maker is awesome. Watch the Masienda Tortilla videos for assistance. I will never go back to pre- made tortillas . These are light, puffy and the Blue Corn Massa is so earthy. Recently made a traditional French Quiche but made the crust with the blue corn massa. Also made meat filled empanadas by crimping the edges of a folded tortilla off the press filled by a quick pan fry. Very versatile addition to the kitchen and looks very nice just sitting there waiting to be used

Spent hours trying to find Dona’s stand in the mercado. If anyone has the gps coordinates please share. They are doing construction and it’s a zoo in abastos. Thanks!!
Hi there. We appreciate your dedication to finding Doña Rosa's stand! While we don't have exact GPS coordinates, here's what we remember: From the main market parking lot (across from the taxi stand), head down the long hall. Take a left at the chocolate molinos, then a left at the suitcases. Make a right at the bird cages, followed by a left at the basket of fresh tlayudas. You should find Doña Rosa's stand there. Best of luck, and I hope you locate it amidst the construction chaos!

I am disappointed, I ordered a Doña Rosa tortilla press & a comal (Made-In), both arrived defective & damaged. The company has not been helpful to return
4:02 Why is the powder coat paint all chipped off? Is the finish not durable??
Thanks for the question! Doña Rosa tortilla presses are very durable and the ones Masienda sells are powder-coated with food-grade paint stateside. Many restaurants use these presses to make hundreds of tortillas daily, and only after years of heavy use like that might you see some wear in the finish like the one in the video. For home cooks, you may see some wear, over time, specifically at the fulcrum point where it rubs every time you press. This does not affect the functionality in any way. I wonder if the tortilla press can be sold without the paint?
And remember, you're putting your dough between plastic sheets, so even if some paint came off, it wouldn't get in your tortilla.
