"Release the Hostages, love story and didi are really bad but it also has ome of my favs like hostages and black and white and kids today. It has no filler just either great or bad songs. I also love drop the world.

Single Album only has like 3 good songs that push NoFX in new ground. Others are rehashed, mediocore. Self Entitled and the double albums are just Mike throwing up his sexual fetishes and rehashing previous sounds. NOFX has been carrying the torch for decades. There is not another band (outside of Clutch) that has done it so good for so long with the same lineup. Frampton gives a tough but relatively fair take on their albums, and this is brave, considering his recent decision to look like a sphinx cat. The omission of the 7 inch of the month club is quite glaring, tho...

    1) You forgot The Longest Line e.p. between Ribbed and White Trash. Only five songs but "Death of John Smith" is a shredder. This was also the first release with El Hefe in the band.
    2) I could be wrong, but the Punk in Drublic festival was launched out of a joint venture with the band when the licensed a beer called Punk in Drublic. Again, I could be wrong on this.
    3) NOFX's decline was because Mike clearly got bored with being in a well known punk band. He's the personality type that is so gifted that he has to create obstacles for himself to see if he can ride the razor's edge of destroying it, just to keep it interesting for himself. So then came the drugs, the cross dressing, the non-NOFX musical ventures, etc. I personally became less of a fan watching the second installment of "Backstage Passport". He was this brilliant guy who turned into the obnoxious guy at the party who is boasting about how many drugs he took. That whole DVD was just Mike trying to score drugs in foreign countries. I still like their old music but I'm not even going to bother seeing them one last time on their final tour.

Really good take! I don't judge him, though. He's always been an openly "flawed" personality that never wanted to be idolized/iconized the way he was...He lost his ways several times an is definitely an edgy character that must be tough to have around. He coulda easily have all those scenes that clearly made him look like an ass edited out of BP2, but he didn't, cuz he's not trying to portrait some polished Tom Delonge son-in-law type. Wait...Am I idolizing him right now?

NOFX is like a drug, which I think hits each of us differently based on our expectations and where we're at in life when we hear it.
It's actually encouraging when I see people rank my least favorites as their favorites. Especially since sometimes time can change my opinion about certain work.
And if we're talking Fat Mike, we ought to lump in all the classic Fat Wreck Chords stuff when we didn't know Mike was actually in the studio helping those bands make those albums, not taking any credit.
And just as a dude... Like, over the years, sometimes a quick question for Mike would pop into my head, so I'd pull over to a dumpster, tear off a tiny strip of cardboard, scribble my question on it, put "to Fat Mike", slap a stamp on it, and drop it in a mailbox to Fat Wreck Chords. And without fail, that strip of trash would show right back up in my mailbox, with his answer written in marker over top of my question, still without an envelope (except for once when I demanded Propagandhi stickers).
My point is... shit, I forgot!

Nofx is the greatest punk rock band in existence. Their songs are just ok, but if it weren’t for nofx, we wouldn’t have lagwagon, no use, propaghandi, and *maybe* even not rise against. They revitalized bad religion. They produced anti-flags second best album. They kept the dying warped tour alive long past it’s prime. They did a lot. More than any other band.

    • @jacknone1564

Not even close to true. “Lagwagon, no use…etc” are shit bands. Warped Tour was good for about 3 years. Vandals and Rancid did way more for 90s punk than NOFX could ever hope to achieve.

Couldnt disagree more, they are an incredibly overrated band with a handful of good tracks that suffer from mediocre musical ability and dumb lyrics. There are a dozen bands on the Fat Wreck label better than them and those bands would have done just fine with a different label.

Fat Mike is the best. Best Punk Singer. Best Punk Song Writer. 40 years of great albums. Punk Rock Museum. Codefendants. Has written TONS of songs for others. Owns his own label, where he put out the likes of Strung Out, NUFAN, Lagwagon, and oh yeah, POPAGANDHI. Ribbed is where it really started. Double Album is AMAZING. Just came out.
