One of the first lessons my Dad taught me about deer hunting is to move your eyes, not your head - especially when deer are present. You have learned that lesson well. Many hunters don't realize how much movement is involved in looking back and forth when they could just move their eyes.

A good example of how most of the people you see snort-wheezing aren't doing it all that accurately.

Watching that kind of action is way more fun to me that shooting a lone deer. Like you on this day, every single time I've watched rut action in the morning, that afternoon has been dead as a hammer. I have no idea why that is.

When you pass younger bucks they get to get bigger and you get to hunt more. That's a win win in my book.
except the odds are much lower on public land. 90% of hunters who see that buck will shoot it in a heartbeat.

Just being that close to deer in their natural habitat is a victory. That bigger buck had you pinned, but gave up as there were more important things on his mind
Great footage and good call on passing those bucks, I think too many people are too eager to get a kill on camera. I love your channel because you're not out there just to kill. I live in Oklahoma and we have tons of outvof state hunters this year and I'm really getting tires of seeing spikes and 21/2 year old bucks in the backs of their trucks. Oklahoma deer dont get big because we have great genetics, they get big because we have great hunters.
There comes the days when one learns to just watch and APPRECIATE deer being just that. Deer.

I'd love to meet the ol man who taught you your ways. I had an old head teach me everything I know. I'm sure you had something similar. Most young folks don't know how to live off the land successfully. It usually takes a mentor, also takes a special kind of person to pass on that knowledge.

Here on our farm on the east side, we literally just started having daytime rutting activity in the past 4 days. All other activity on the trail cameras has been nocturnal. Although, we started seeing heavy daytime chasing on Thanksgiving morning. Great footage by the way, especially considering how close they were to you!

Yep, those deer always do the ole head bob to try and catch you making a move. Young and old, they are born with that instinct.
