  • On Friday 12th July 2024, DownsSteam ran a train for their members as well as guests from the Mackay Heritage Railway from their Drayton base out to Clifton and Hendon and return.
    This video is from onboard the train as well as a small portion of video trackside on the Clifton - Hendon - Clifton portion of the journey.
    The locomotive performed faultlessly, and is set to be publicly launched on Sunday 14th July 2024, for its first fare paying passenger run in 54 years.

    Thanks for the excellent video. 15:00 beautiful farming country. Immediately after that showing the historic photos on the carriage walls was a bonus. I grew up in Drayton and would lie awake in bed hearing the goods trains struggling up the bank from the creek up through The station and onward to Harristown.

    Good to see 1037 take a spin on the turntable. Seemed to go OK. I just realised that it was speeded up a bit at the end.

      Correct. I sped up the video so it wouldn't be like watching paint dry.

      @@paul1089 The turntable is still really under test. It is slow but it is steady with not too much strain on the drive arrangement under normal operation. Better that pushing it around manually.

    I dunno if i am sold on the lettering on the tender or not but it might just be because I am used to seeing 1079 and 1089 with blank tenders. I felt the same with 1072 down at the Zig Zag with their lettering on the tender years ago. There is something not quite 'right' about it but i find it hard to put my finder on what exactly it is that makes me feel like that. It just doesn't 'mesh' with the rest of the engine and I am not sure if it is the font, the layout or the color that doesn't work.

      You're not the only one. A lot of people, myself included, are not impressed with the lettering.

      In my opinion it looks a bit cheap, it would be better if they did something like on 106’s tender

      What’s funny is that none of the Australian steam locomotives have lettering on their tank, tender or cabs because they didn’t want to follow on what Great Britian Railways did to “identify” their railways (with diesels as the only exceptions)

    • @RedtailFox1
      @RedtailFox1 Месяц назад

      @@nathanchan4653 it was unnecessary since each company's equipment was very distinct and was rarely in a position to interact due to break of gauge.

      @@RedtailFox1 Also, in your response to the lettering of BB18 1/4 N.o 1037; personally I’d think gold/pale yellow would be a better colour colour choice and maybe increase the font size to “advertise” better

    Are the cars coupled with buckeye or screw link?

      @paul1089  Месяц назад +1

      Automatic couplers.

    Quest, does the line go further than where the engine was turned at Hendon? Also does anyone out there have a spare steam dome cover?😊

    • @paul1089
      @paul1089  Месяц назад

      The line continues on to Warwick, where you can junction off to Thallon or Stanthorpe. The locomotive never came with a steam dome cover, so a new one will likely have to be made.
