fun fact bob was born in 1999 which basically makes him a 100 years old
Bob is 24?!!
Imagine being born in the 1900s 😂😂😂 Couldn't be me 💀
Wow, he was born in the 1900s
Retro
@@gazer99 yep
This comment made me so sick and my head spin as someone born in 1998.
RIP STEEZ🕊️🕊️🕊️
1999 is arguably the greatest mixtape ever. Those MFDOOM tracks are insanely good.
1999 and Faces by Mac are the two best mixtapes of the last 15 years for me.
RIP STEEZ
@@BennyZ88 faces is top tier aswell. That earl sweatshirt track is fire
@@BennyZ88acid rap as well
for me i think elmatic by elzhi is better
I like Jeffery
I’ve never heard anyone describe this project as comfortable but it’s so accurate. The production is truly just relaxing
It’s just so easy to listen to
@@connorgrenier3301 the beats are so smooth and soothing. Joey compliments them so much with his chill laid back style
Just gonna leave this here so Bob has a better chance of seeing it: The song "Don't Front" especially CJ Fly's verse is about Mary Jane personified, not an actual girl.
"Both knew our role (roll) this is more than just a crush
I used to pick her up longing for our lips to touch...
... Bagged her at her friends, but home were I would take her
Didn't know that she was a ho, that only wanted my paper
Whenever I was with her, my mind would just relax
Could've been the hot topic cause I swore we were a match"
Also most Pro Era members were teenagers as well when this came out. Joey has crazy stories about being on tour with Juicy J while he was so young & Juicy J had the biggest song out at the time "Bands a Make Her Dance" which was stripper anthem!
Bro yes it’s comfortable
joey's 2nd verse on hardknock is one my fav verses of all time, we keep repeating it but writing that at 17 years old is ridiculous
Facts and facts
fatcual
Been saying that
the record RELEASED when he was 17, most likely written at least partially when he was 16
Bro he skipped the verse “relish fetishes, menaces, one percentages, if you ain’t prejudice you still a nemesis, smokin on the Clemmidus get open like present, now you presence is on the premises for them presidents” arguably one of the hardest verses ever made.
absolute classic. rest in peace to steez man one of the greatest what ifs in hip hop
need king capital
Joey Bada$$ co-founded his group Pro Era with Capital Steez (R.I.P.), and both of them mastered a NY rap style at such a young age. Another group that collaborated with them are the Flatbush Zombies, and Better Off Dead is one of their best projects.
Came to mention Flatbush zombies better off dead is one of my favorite albums 🤞
@@AlDev21fax
just listened to this album yesterday for the first time and it was one of the best rap albums ive ever heard. joey is in a league of his own…🔥🔥
This and B4DA$$ are so damn great
mixtape*
mixtape.
@@roygallegos4378that’s like saying “it’s not a book it’s a novel”
Joey Bada$$ was a prodigy and school of the arts kid just like Tupac and Dave Chappelle. He's also a talented actor as well. And this album always reminds me of Illmatic. Nas was 19 when he recorded that album and Joey was only 17 years old recording 1999. Pretty incredible. Capital Steez was super talented as well but self-transitioned at age 19. R.I.P.
Fun fact, Joey went to Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, which is the same school that Jean-Michel Basquiat attended.
RIP CAPITAL STEEZ🕊️🕊️
If you liked this, I’d recommend Amerikkkan Korruption by Capital STEEZ. STEEZ was like Joey’s mentor and best friend. One of the greatest mixtapes of all time. Other than that, I’m still asking for a reaction to Isaiah Rashad, either his first or second.
Also check out King Capital...
@@M4V7RICK never released
@@imlatetoschool I know I was just imagining
Almost 11 years later…
RIP KING STEELO
Forget the fact that he's just a kid. The album is ridiculous. So good.
Bob such a student of music. The hip hop head in him was lurking all these years and now that it’s out, it can’t be stopped! Great channel!
Joey feels like the modern Nas. He is so lyrical with these cool simple nice beats and straight bars. I consider this tape the modern Illmatic. The way the albums are formatted and produced feels really similar and so true to the roots of hiphop
I make the same comparison. This is our generation's Illmatic just without the influence
this album is from 2012 dude this ain’t modern 😭
@@arch1vst2012 is NOT that long ago bro relax😭
@@arch1vstdamn how old are you lmao? 2012 isn’t that long ago
@@slipsapien hate to break it to you but that is 11 years ago. if that isnt a long time then 29 years isnt that far off either
I would do anything to hear this album for the first time again lmao

@@MrWatevaman !*
this was one of the first records i listened to when i really started to get into rap it got a special place in my heart. rip capital steez 🙏
Listening to 2000 after this would be great, you would instantly see the growth of Joey. This is also just a mixtape by a 16 year old and for that it's incredible.
Glazing over B4DA$$ and All American Bada$$ like that is crazy, those are both good albums as well why skip straight to his most recent work?
@@waynewilson1068 2000 is a direct sequel to 1999, but he should listen to all of them ofc
@@waynewilson1068 agreed, they have a different feel from 1999 or 2000, plus its always a bonus to go chronologically to fully appreciate their growth!
None of his follow up projects captured the classic feeling like this. Like Nas he set the bar too high with his first.
Joey in my opinion has got the best wordplay in the rap game out of everyone, ive listened to this album hundreds of times and every listen i pick up on something new.
Him DOOM and Tyler up there for sure for me
lmao Tyler@@daltonvillani8341
that’s the real brooklyn ny nigga in him
This is one of my all-time favorites!! Love the production! Love the bars! From my high school days to now, almost 10 years later, I still have this in rotation! Excited for this vid!
YESS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO REACT TO THIS!! THANK YOU
Joey is the epitome of the bridge between old and new school ny hip hop. Sometimes I forget that he’s a newer artist because he has a great way of bringing forth that vibe.
the greatest mixtape of all time
really happy to watch the reaction been wanting you to react to joey for a minute. still remember listening to this in 8th grade.
YOU JUST HAD TO BE THERE. Man what a time it was when this dropped. SO glad you reacted to this.
Loved this reaction Bob! Always. This is actual a MIXTAPE!!! Joey is one of my favourites, top 3 artists for sure! I am glad you saw exactly what you needed to and I appreciate madly how you intro'd the video as well. You are great dude, super excited to see the All Amerikkkan Bada$$ Reaction!!!!!!! keep it up my friend.
oh my gawd ive been waiting for this reaction since you made this channel
Oh boy, how can I have missed this one. This is a great album already, 3 tracks in. Thanks Bob, and persevering community.
loving the new shorts content!
🎉🎉🎉thank you so much!!!!! One of my favorite albums!!! Made me so happy seeing this🎉🎉🎉🎉 thank you
It’s incredible looking back and seeing what Joey was talking about at 17 years old, this album truly got me through some tough times as a new adult when it first came out, especially Snakes, Daily Routine, and Righteous Minds
Survival Tactics is one of my all time favorite tracks of all genres, and I have a very wide range of music taste.
Looking into the story of Capital Steez is tragic. Committed suicide around the age of 18 I believe. One of the biggest “what if”’s ever
Rest in power Steez
His debut album B4.DA.$$ is absolutely excellent as well. Doesn't get quite the buzz among hip hop heads that this tape does, but every bit as good.
I agree with you that 1999 is heavily front-loaded, the Summer Knights -> World Domination run is absolute insanity, especially for a debut project. This tape was huge for my friends and I in early high-school years. The old-school production continues to sound as clean and timeless as ever, even 11 years after release.
Definitely a great tape. Big Dusty is one of my fave songs from him.
This makes me very happy bob thank you
This is one of my favorite projects ever, so so good
It’s so weird Bob I am but a wee lad who started his music journey 2 years ago and this was one of the first mixtapes I started with and I feel like throughout my journey I’ve been able to experience every album for the first time with you so this is a big thank you to finally reacting to one of the best mixtapes of all times
Mannnnn what a freaking time this was when this mixtape came out. This video just brought back soooo many memories!!!
I remember vividly hearing this for the first time. It was in 2012 while I was in highschool, and I was on my laptop sitting at the island in our kitchen just doing homework when RUclips autoplay put this album on. At that point, I've listened to a few hip-hop tracks here and there, but this would be the first time I listened to a full length hip-hop album. I was blown away. I don't listen to it often nowadays, but it will always hold a place in my heart as the reason I got into hip-hop.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSS
Weird thing about this album Capital Steez killed himself shortly after 1999 released and you can hear the change in Joeys music over his albums especially in all amerikkan badass. Also would suggest listening to survivors guilt by Joey, its a tribute to steez and his cousin if you’re not going to listen to his discography.
Lets goooo Bob cheers from Nashville
been waiting on this one for a while
youve quickly became my favorite youtuber
congrats for 100k subs man. Been here watching since 300 subs. Awesome content
OHMYGODDDDD LETS GO I COULD CRY RN LOVE YA POPS
I love this vid thanks bob.
amazing mixtape. I love joey and he desserves even more praise then what he already does.
Such a great tape but his debut album B4.DA.$$ is where he really shines! Absolutely can't wait for you to get to that project, it's fun, gritty and has such a great range of styles
Na. This is levels better than the album
Just as I start watching you, you review 1999. I'll be here more lmao.
Also, congrats on 100k.
I hope you'll continue to discover more of billy woods' discography. You liked "Maps" a lot and billy is imo one of the most consistent hip hop artist and every album is incredible.
My high school soundtrack. I was trying to rap then and remember hearing this and it almost made me quit lol. Didn’t write a rhyme for like 2 months. Joey was so fucking good
Joey Badass and his group pro era were apart of greater movement that came out of New York in the early 2010s called “Beast Coast”. The “official” beady coast members were Pro Era (Joey Badass’ group), The Underachievers and The Flatbush Zombies. This movement was extremely influential for me and a lot of underground rap fans of the time. I HIGHLY recommend you check out the Flatbush Zombies and Underachievers. I would recommend the albums Better Off Dead and Indigoism respectively as they incredible albums which all have a similar vibe and message of enlightenment and old 90s feel with a twist. I would also add that this time period was a sort of renaissance as there were a number of other rappers coming out of NYC at the time that were lossley connected to Beast Coast including ASAP Mob and Action Bronson. Peace
how have you not heard this yet omfg
Classic Mixtape. RIP STEEZ
Keep the Joey train going! B4.DA.$$ was on repeat, front to back when I was in high school. Great album
im typically a youtube lurker, i dont comment often if at all, but i commented asking for this album around a year ago. So happy to see you reacting to this album as someone from new york
OH MY GOSH BOB THIS THE ONE I BEEN ASKING FOR!!!!!!!!!
I truly hope you enjoyed
ive been waiting for this for so long lets go!
waves is a top 10 hip hop song of all time for me, it makes me feel like I’m living in those 90s days
I'm so glad you're reacting to 1999. One of the best.
Are you gonna get to Faces by Mac Miller? I think you would love to dive into the lyrics and it’s one of my favorite most emotionally complex projects of all time
That last verse in fromdaTomb is so goooodddd🔥🔥🫣
This was amazing, need the 2000 album reaction next :)
love this channel!!
For me this is the best mixtape of all time. You have to go through some real life shit to be rapping like this at such a young age.
Well done with an element of play. Great way to put it
RIP CAPITAL STEEZ😢gone young man
Ayeee been waiting for this one for a while
You should listen to better off dead by Flatbush zombies. There another group from Brooklyn that helped bring back the old school NY sounds
I remember hearing this the first day it came out during the summer when I just got out of 8th grade. It came out on my dads birthday. This is such a amazing project man. Forever one of my favorites albums. And the fact that Joey wasn’t even a grown man when he did this turns this project from a 10/10 to an 100/10 in my eyes. Great job Grandpa!!!!!!!!
So many people sleep on Joey this shit was nuts when I first heard it and still listen to a large portion of this album
Bob needs that ‘Better Off Dead’ by Flatbush Zombies
Waves is one of my favorite rap songs ever! Great project overall.
as soon as you did the intro i knew you were going to love this. First i think its awesome that as someone who is reviewing music you aware of natural bias' like age and preference, and are willing to do your best to move past that and see the vision of the art. Second as someone from the north east who is the same age as Joey and been listening since 99, I knew he was gunna subvert your expectations in the best way. Great vid thanks for sharing
continue: just my guess on the Egyptians line but i think Joey is going along with the theory that there was intelligent life in that part of the world that were responsible for advancements that Egypt is credited for. Im not really versed but i believe he is referencing anunnaki and ties it into to neo in the matrix, a more powerful version of us.
Damn been waiting a long time for this.
so glad u did this album its one of my favs but still want sick! by earl sweatshirt and wondering if u was going to do it
This is probably my favorite mixtape of all time up there with Faces. Funny you mention this is “comfortable/relaxing” because this and Cilvia Demo were my go to albums to play when I used to have panic attacks multiple times a week.
Yesss what we have all been waiting for
Looking back it crazy to think Joey dropped this when he did
Been looking at your videos for a while now and it’s cool to see someone truly understand and appreciate the art of lyrics and classic hip hop beats from New York. I’m from Texas, these type of vibes aren’t appreciated down here.
i can't even describe how happy i am that you're doing this one bob. joey is one of the best of this generation and this mixtape felt like as if illmatic dropped in the 2010's (at least for me lmao)
Thank you!!!!! Finally
Joey single-handedly introduced me to a new type of sound that I absolutely love now. Third Eye Shit is amongst my top 3 records of all time
this was hands down his best body of work and arguably the best tape of all time. but you should definitely do All american badass next
Joey is like 2 years older than me. When this dropped me and my friends were mind blown. Classic and RIP Steez
Never heard a more mature rapper at 17, let alone make a classic as much as this one
Steez drops a Clipse shoutout here PLEASE LISTEN TO CLIPSE!!!! THESE GEN Z VIEWERS DON’T KNOW.
Mr me too
I know this is redundant for an album literally full of classics but Killuminati is one of the best songs of all time. long live capital steez
41:50 "i either need to quit facebook or i need to start quitting people" thats a certified bada$$ bar
Ones of the greatest mixtapes of all time
Great memories of this tape in high school in 2012
LETS GOOOO RIGHT WHEN I GOT MY FOOD
Joey will if not undoubtedly be one of the best, because every track just resonates with me in its own way, it’s just incredible, the production, the features and the lyrics of course. Can’t forget STEEZ too, though he had some features on here, couldn’t have done it without STEEZ. 47 FOREVER
Finally you reacted too the album i knew that you would dig ts. And we getting lucki next week. WE EATING
FINALLY! Life changing first project from Joey Bada$$! Crazy he was 16-17 when we wrote this. His discography only gets better and better. Summer Knights, B4Da$$, All Amerikkkan Badass and 2000.
FINALLY AFTER SO LONG YOU WILL LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE
great video but I was so sad when you skipped the acapella bit on survival tactics, definitely my favourite part of that song
joey has never put out a bad or even mid project they all been fire but 1999 is prob the only certified classic
Survival Tactics & Hard Knock go so craaaazzyyyyy
waited sm for this
this album was my teenagehood and im still carrying with me into adulthood such a beautiful album
