I am very surprised that you came to our country. Thank you for coming, we look forward to seeing you again. Seeing Luke Rockhold and meeting our wrestling legend Ahmet Taşçı was truly a multiverse event. I was very excited and happy. I was going to go to Edirne to watch wrestling, but I didn't have the opportunity. If I could come, I think I would be the only person who would recognize Luke Rockhold there. When MMA was not common in Turkey, Luke was the UFC champion and my favorite fighter. It is truly excellent content. Greetings to all of you from Turkey.
As I write these, I still can't get over my excitement and surprise. The former UFC champion will watch Kırkpınar wrestling and do oil wrestling in your country. If you imagined this and wrote a script, they would think it was an absurd comedy series script. It's truly mind blowing stuff.
Some facts about Turkish Oil Wrestling: 1- At one point in history wrestling became too easy for the Turks so they came up with oil wrestling to make the grip and leverage more challenging in training. 2- Oil also helps keep away the mosquitos. 3- This Kırkpınar national tournament has become a centuries old tradition since the year 1361 to honour the 2 Ottoman Raider brothers Ali and Selim who wrestled each other for hours until death. 4- Turks wanted to show Craig their support in his mission to keep jiu-jitsu gay.
The first point is mute since adding oil wouldn't make it harder since how hard a sport is is dictated by your skill level vs your opponents. Matches would still be as hard since the competition is still fair between two competitors. Of course there's an argument that due to the slipperiness it's 'harder' because it's harder to hold grips, by that same logic you could say oil makes it easier since it's easier to escape someone else's grip. Ultimately it's just a different ruleset that'll change which style of wrestling i more effective and change some locks and hold. Not easier or harder, just different.
While it's true that the difficulty of a sport is relative to the skill levels of the competitors, the addition of oil to wrestling introduces unique challenges that can make the sport inherently more difficult. Here are a few points to consider: Grip and Control: The essence of wrestling is about grip and control. Oil significantly reduces friction, making it much harder to maintain holds and execute moves that rely on a firm grip. This increases the technical difficulty of the sport because wrestlers must develop new strategies and techniques to maintain control under slippery conditions. Increased Physical and Mental Demand: Wrestling with oil requires greater physical strength and endurance. Wrestlers must exert more energy to maintain their grip and control, leading to quicker fatigue. Additionally, the mental aspect of constantly adapting to a slippery opponent adds another layer of complexity and challenge. Skill Enhancement: Training under more challenging conditions can enhance overall skill. If wrestlers train with oil, they develop better balance, adaptability, and precision. When these wrestlers compete without oil, they are likely to find it easier to maintain control and execute moves, having trained under more demanding conditions. Comparison to Other Sports: Fencing with feet tied together fundamentally alters the sport, adding a significant challenge. Similarly, oil wrestling adds an element that fundamentally changes the sport, making it more challenging by requiring wrestlers to overcome additional obstacles. Historical Context: Historically, sports and training methods evolve to increase the challenge and skill level required. For instance, in martial arts, practitioners often train under more difficult conditions (e.g., weighted clothing, blindfolded exercises) to improve their skills. The introduction of oil in wrestling likely served a similar purpose: to push the limits of the athletes and elevate the level of competition. In conclusion, while the competition remains fair, the addition of oil increases the overall difficulty of the sport due to the need for greater physical effort, enhanced techniques, and superior adaptability. Therefore, oil wrestling can be seen as a more challenging variant of traditional wrestling, designed to push athletes to a higher level of performance.
Germany and Turkey been pretty close with each other throughout history. They always had common enemies in Austria and Russia between them. Lets not forget they were Allies in WW1 and had a friendship/neutrality pact with the Nazis. Germans might def even be the highest regarded nationality for Turks.
