  • Transformers Cybertron (or Galaxy Force) featured a new Starscream with a very cool jet mode and a Cyber Key that activated his blade attack. Legacy United has brought us a new take on this character and Captain Kyle compares the original and the new version to see which one is better. And you decide!
Cybertron Starscream was a very cool version of this character and came with a Cyber Key and a missile-launching weapon. In his standard colors, he was only released in Japan, though the same mold would be released in the US in a recolored form in a versus pack with Vector Prime. It wasn’t released in the US most likely so it wouldn’t detract from sales of the Supreme Class Starscream, which comes with a crown and two Cyber Keys. Still, the Voyager-sized Japanese version was rather cool and fit in better, scale-wise, with the other Cybertron toys. Captain Kyle examines the new Legacy United version of Cybertron Starscream alongside the Japanese version so you can decide which is better.

He’s got butterfly joints, inner shoulders, biceps, and wrists that are reused from Siege Starscream. His shoulder pads can be hinged out of the way for more shoulder articulation.

    Cybertron vs. Lagacy United
Size: Cybertron (very different size, legacy looks like a scout instead of a voyager)
Plastic Quality: Cybertron (actually has different colored plastic instead of just paint, and the plastic is significantly thicker)
Paint Job: Cybertron (has better paint and much more painted detail by far)
Alt Mold: Cybertron (This is where it shines. The thing just jumped out of the screen)
Molded Detail: Cybertron (I can't even pinpoint where, because it is just so much more)
Landing Gear: Cybertron (actually has wheels that roll)
Tranformation: Cybertron (Simple and super effective. Also, the legacy united has an alt mode with a nasty looking bottom package. The Cybertron mold is super clean all around.
Energon Swords: Cybertron (molded detail, size, and sturdiness)
Cyber Key Gimmick: Cybertron (actually does something in a perfect non-intrusive way)
Cyber Key: Cybertron (bigger, paint and plastic quality)
Gun: Cybertron (Bigger, fires, and has better quality materials)
Build: Cybertron (has ratchet joints!!! as a voyager class imagine that)
Cartoon Accuracy Alt mode: Cybertron (already mentioned why)
Packaging: Cybertron (bigger, much more protected, painted, and looks premium + comes with a holo transforming effect collector card + Cybertron Map!)
Robot Mode: Legacy United (This is up for debate in terms of the old school robot blocky look or the more stylized modern look, also the headsculpt I would say is more accurate on legacy united)
Articulation: Legacy United (mainly in the arms and the posable null rays)
I hope this answers the question.

Except... the Cybertron mold of this coloration was actually Supeme Starscream. The equivalent was actually Galaxy Force. The mold of the same size released in the US was red.

@ToySpotlite Right, you are. However, as you've mentioned, many here may not be from the old day, so I tried to keep it simple. Nonetheless, thank you for an awesome review and for replying.

Thanks for your take on it. I do mostly prefer the original. Just looks better. And my red one, who I put with my Thrust versions, is also very cool. I guess it's good to have options.

The Cyber Key gimmick that made the original superior! It's so fun inserting the key and yelling "Cyber Key powaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!" loudly like in the cartoon and the gimmick actually works like in the cartoon!

The original was hands down better. Every new figure now feels like how much Hasbro can get away with reducing materials and cost, instead of making toys be toys.
