  • Warhammer is not a cheap hobby - but the level to which you let it get expensive is really up to you. I talk through some of the most expensive options both in terms of raw cost, and the value of the item you are picking up in in-game terms.

If you are hoping to get rippers or gaunts. Then troll trader is honestly the way to go for them, ripper swarms are 6 pounds or like 10$ for 3. And guants are 10 pounds so like 12.50$ for 10

@@JohnnyDeLeo1 hey thats a great way to go. Then your model will always look cool. But a quick tip, to play the game you need your army in a detachment. Certain units have different tags like HQ and Troop. To run a battalian you need 2 HQs and 3 troops. One troop unit is 10 hormaguants, 10 genestealers or 3 ripper swarms. HQs are stuff like swarm lord, tervigon. Of course id urge you to look into the battalian options because there are many different things. Such as one where you can run a bunch of heavy supports and thats all.

I had a friend who used to work for GW. Alot of the pricing is based on expected sales, the cost of creating a mould and casting individual characters is higher than a sprue that makes multiple blokes. Add that to the fact each person will buy maybe 1 of a particular character vs 10 marine sets you get the idea. I still think the pricing is horrific tho. Just adding my 2p

GW are a company that needs to turn a profit, they make some of the best miniatures on the market. They're expensive, and i don't agree on alot of the pricing and i stopped playing when Fantasy was scrapped but i was trying to add context with an anecdote. Anyone with half a brain knows to not take it as gospel, but it could inform an overall opinion. Why on earth would models get cheaper over time? Have you heard of inflation? Changing material costs? New technologies? Go on ebay and paint strip some second hand models if you're desperate. Similar statements could be said for Warhammer. There is a large market for resale on Warhammer. it takes a bit more time and energy, but can mean large savings. Also once you get an army set your good for a few years minimum. The difference is Up front cost vs cost over time. I might buy a $500+ army in short order, but it will never become unusable for decades to come (meta excluded). My brother on the other hand is spending about 30-60$ a month (closer to 100 some months) on magic singles and is constantly flipping things around. Hobbies are expensive, but if you enjoy them its worth it.

I made a 6 wheel Ork Battlewagon, two Space Marine Baneblades, a Rhino with whirlwind launcher (before a kit was released for the whirlwind) two Rhino Vindicators, several custom Ork War Buggies and Wartraks and a customised Wartrak Scorcher. I also made several vehicles which didn’t conform to anything in the game, I used to play these against my brother and we agreed on vehicle stats.

i own a warlord titan and the thing only tok my me maybe 2 weeks to put togheter and a couple months to paint. metalics and armor panels are surprisingly fast to paint, there where no warping and the parts where very clean and it has a lot fewer parts than you might think. and you dont actually need any pins at all for it, the legs are held togheter with screws but the rest is just straight up held together with cheap grosery store superglue, magnets and greenstuff. but by god is it worth the cost. damn thing is awesome looking

I got apocalypse missile launchers, the head, volcano cannon, plasma annihilator and a power claw after taxes all said and done it was $3112.02 Canadian dollars. I have easily easily 200+ hours into this thing so far and it’s not even close to probally 1/32 of the way done I don’t even have it fully built yet and started painting some of the accessories. This thing is such a undertaking I bet you it’s going to take me 3-5 years to complete it

Just for the record: While I agree that injection molded polystyrene can achieve the level of detail that resin can, there are types of details that you can only get with resin, and additionally there are going to be fewer halves/seams to deal with with resin.
Resin is cast in a soft mold that has some give, so small undercuts in the details are possible without having to engineer some complex two part mold. Look at the new sister models for examples in how mangled the kits are to achieve the details with injection molding. So I agree with your overall assessment that resin kits are overpriced, given the pain of construction and not being superior enough to polystyrene, but I argue it still has its place in model making overall.
And as an additional fact, I *believe* the resin FW uses is a polyurethane plastic. All plastics are resins, and it can be quite annoying to find the actual differences since "plastic" in the hobby has come to mean "plastics that are soluble by organic solvents" (plastic cement is any one of these organic solvents).

A nice set of somewhat modular gasmask dudes to enforce imperial armies. I kinda imagine that no one would hate that. Those that don't want to play them at all will ignore them and will probably also not be interested in Cadians... But a lot of people "grim up" their Cadians, likely because they miss the opportunity to go for the real deal in terms of grimmdark imperial fighting force not made of marines, because dkok is locked away as expensive resin models not easily stumbled upon because it is on foregeworld...

My first army was 40k Slann, GW stopped supporting the range so that was several £100 wasted, then I brought a massive amount of Squats, about 50 Exo armoured ones, a dozen or so trikes and a few hundred basic infantry, again range was not supported to that was also a complete waste, I rage quit 40k after that and went to Fantasy and build a Kislev army and an absolutely massive Empire Knight army, around 50 Knights of each of the main orders, White Wolf was my personal favourite, then a 3rd Bretonnian Army, GW not only killed off all those armies but the entire game system. . . So far around £10k spent and not a single playable army. . . . I got back into 40k a while ago and brought a complete Forgeworld Mechanicus Army , unfortunately they forgot to give it any rules for the last couple of editions so it's just sat in a box, then I saw how awesome the Imperial Knights look, now I have a massive Imperial Knights army with all 4 Cerastus and both Asterius, just keeping my fingers crossed the FW knights dont end up getting scrapped like every other army I have tried to collect.

I picked the (at the time) brand new army, grey knights. Not because I loved the models more than other armies but because I was sick of buying and painting 40 models for 120 points and wanted to get 2k points painted without emptying my bank account or losing my mind.
Best decision I have ever made (warhammer related), I now love the army and actually enjoy both painting them and playing the models. Moving hundreds of minis on the table gets old rather quickly.

skateboards are way more than ten pounds, but it depends how much you want to spend.
for a pro deck it's about 60 quid (thats just the board, nothing else) trucks are generally around 30-60 quid also, but can cost a lot more. pro wheels are about 30, and say 15 for bearings.
most skate shops will do pro deck set up's for 120 quid, but the trucks and wheels won't be the best.
you can get shop boards and blanks and stuff for a bit cheaper, like 30 quid though, thats what most people do. buy a shop board from your local to support them, then get some nice trucks, wheels and bearings (this stuff is way more important than a pro deck) black cat bearings are the shit, way too fast for me though. I like my softer "cruiser" style wheels as well, they don't go as fast as hard wheels, and it's a much smoother ride.
PS: you can probs find a skateboard for a tenner from a toy shop, but it'll be terrible, and probably a liability to actually try and skate it for real.

I agree the Titan has a hobby/modelling and even narrative element that is a part of the value, not just the cost. I'm working on a Reaver I bought second hand, built and magnetised, for £450.00, so yes there are deals out there. But if you look at points efficiencies, even in 8th, never mind 9th, no super heavy of 1000pts or more would on average stand up to a non-super heavy army of equivalent points.

  • @Makek1th
    @Makek1th 3 года назад

Imperial Guard would like a word about deceptively expensive armies. Also, characters are more expensive (not that I agree that this is acceptable) because you need fewer. You only need 1 Marneus or Mephiston, but you can always field more troops so fewer of these kits will be sold. I also did a video about a year ago reviewing points per £ of forgeworld models, which was then invalidated by chapter approved ....
