GREAT Show Joe Davy and MY hero Supreme Slide master Sonny Landreth! Superrrrrr Guitar Rock Night Show Amsterdam 29 oct 2010 I was There too! Thnaks for this One! GOT SLIDE!!
The difference between Satriani and Sonny Landreth is that there are many many other players like Satriani out there but Sonny has built an entire category or at least a sub-category of slide guitar playing from the ground up----he owns it, and he has it pretty much to himself, at least for the time being, until others come along and try to emulate him (like so many players did with SRV), or----better yet---try to encorporate some of what Sonny does into their own style, their own thing, and maybe take it further along to somewhere else entirely. Evolution leading to revolution perhaps.... "You can't be the best; you can only be a good 'un". Muddy Waters
Sonny just played at Rock n Bowl in New Orleans on Jan 14. It's a warm up for his new live cd. He did an amazing acoustic set, then came back and electrified us all. His acoustic set included Key to the Highway and Creole Angel His electric set went like this: Soul Salvation Milky Way All About You True Blue Firebird Blues Brave New Girl Uberesso Blue Tarp Blues Encore: was Bayou Teche. I recored Key to the Highway and Bayou Teche and will try to post on youtube soon.
The only other slide guitarist I've seen who compares and has captured his own brand of slide was Rod Price of Foghat. Sonny's sound is distinctive. Rod Price's sound was very distinctive, as well, and like Sonny, no one played the Slide Guitar like that before him. Yes, someone else will come along, it's inevitable. But, damn, Sonny is good!
It's a Guitar Hero Hat Trick from the Holy Trinity of Rock and Roll. The BEST part is the way they all look at each other with such respect and admiration. They should play together all the time and call the band The Latter-Day Yardbirds.
Sonny Landreth ought to to be in Rolling Stone list of the greatest 100 rock guitarists of all times EVANGELIST Roger Mansour Former Leslie West drummer
Smokin Mighty Joe Satch....on fire, Sonny Landreth blazin slide work...Oh man..a true master of that slide Strat...He just Kills it , Davy Knowles adding some smoke...a Guitar lovers Dream riff....wow...a hot show...have a few beers plug in your guitar and do this...bit of Rockin' the House !
That moment in your life when Satch looks at you and is like "Yeah man keep goin that shit is good" and gives you a big smile........ I could die happy at that point lmao.
Wow Great jam!!! So tight! Sonny must've taught Derrick Trucks a thing or two over the years. Often wondered where that stlye of slide came from. Space Dog played a more conventional style, more like Lowell George. Sonny takes it to a whole 'nother level!!!
Sonny does something by playing the strings behind the slide that changes the pitch of thr string! I've seen him do it several times it but l can't figure it out.
i love davy so much!! like soo much.. but don't get me wrong.. you rly couldn't keep up with too kings.. im not a hige sonny fan.. but he kicked ass.. i love satch to death gr8 guy gr8 player.. but dont understand with davy's tone.. no wonder he couldn't play like he usually does..
a few bum notes? oh pleez... you know, his guitar out of tune wouldn't have bothered me any way near as much, if his ideas hadn't been so pedestrian. that this guy is even on stage, or worse, being force-fed down our throats as a "talent" of any kind, is an insult to great players & thinkers everywhere, but i guess that with an industry that now culls it's talent from tv amateur-show contests, whose only REAL criteria for elevating them to "artist" status is youth, i shouldn't be surprised...
Sonny Landreth is a national treasure.
sonny landreth is phenomenal
Thank you whoever put this up!!!
This is BADASSERY
Still watching it and Its a GREAT Jam! What A GREAT show it was of those three!
The fun is watching Joe and Davy reacting to Sonny. (becoming a big fan of Davy)
Yeah Davy is a up and comer. Saw him with Band of Friends recently. Awesome
you know they are both saying "holy shit, why isn't this guy more famous???"
Great Jam Song. Beck and Beth Hart kill it, too. Sonny's slide brings it to anther level. Thanks for posting.

One of the best.
Saw Sonny in Monterey - he owns his stuff.
Great video. Thanks for posting. Wish I could have been there. Awesome performance.

Sonny wails on this song!
Yep, Sonny slayed it....I love that son of a bitch...!!

He's officially recording the CD in Lafayette [where else?] Jan 17, 18 and 19. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

Wow the kid is with two of the greatest and is holding his ground!

That's some tasty blues right there! Go Davy! Supergroup!
Best slide gitarist in the world!!!
please Landreth could Johnny winters jock on slide guitar
Sonny Landreth ought to to be in Rolling Stone list of the greatest 100 rock guitarists of all times
EVANGELIST Roger Mansour
Former Leslie West drummer
Outstanding

Sonny FTW
funny how nobody gives Davy his due credit. he's been on stage with all the greatest, like he was born wit an axe in his hands
He needs to play Eruption
Davy and Joe are awesome in this, great to see them together.

Thanks for posting, good filming and sound..
Got to love this one!
Yeah, I was there. AWESOME NIGHT!
Satriani just lovin it!!
wish I was there :D fantastic video!
Davy is the guitarist of the future
written by my friend donnie nix from memphis. nice job guys
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing!!!
YEAH i was there! :D
ssssssTTuning.....ggggggggggggg. thank you, crispycritter
super avond!!
Ampeg SVT-the mac daddy of all bass amps...and what's better-TWO of them!
Mike Keneally on keys - I'm glad Satch finally lets him play axe in his shows...
Keneally is the swiss army knife of music: from Zappa to the mighty Devy Townsend, he owns it.
Sonny does something by playing the strings behind the slide that changes the pitch of thr string! I've seen him do it several times it but l can't figure it out.
He's picking up an overtone or something
The guy on the left side of the stage in the background (4:12 ) leaning on his elbow.
I would be happy with just a pinch of Satch's talent!
shut up and enjoy it. Their all great.
Mais Sonny can’t hide that Cajun nose no. Great player from Acadiana. USS Zydecoldsmobile.
Why does it have to end.....just keep playing
Joe bonamassa kills it as well. The same song during crossroads festival with Robert randolph
+raven 12 Joe Bonamassa is totally overrated.
Bonamassa, is a surprisingly good slide player too!
I suggest you check out Derek Trucks as well.
Since Satch was there ... Sonny had to bring his A Game. And an A Game it was!
The great Leon Russell, yes, that's right. Leon's song (again).
No it is Don Nix original
Written by Don Nix, first recorded with Leon Russell on piano, and Donald 'duck' Dunn on bass... And the mighty Freddie King leading it
i love davy so much!! like soo much.. but don't get me wrong.. you rly couldn't keep up with too kings.. im not a hige sonny fan.. but he kicked ass.. i love satch to death gr8 guy gr8 player.. but dont understand with davy's tone.. no wonder he couldn't play like he usually does..
Yea, I don't like Joe Satriano either. But Joe Satriani ROCKS!
wah tumbang juga ahirnya
I knew Satriani would cheese it up with his goofy hair metal licks.
3:27 --> Out of tune my ears !
Davy's tone was shit on this! Why? What amp, was it one of the new PRS amps.....I don't think those are all that.
Sorry...any of Jeff Beck´s versions are the best.
The better the musician the worst their songs are.
None of this comes close to Master of Puppets or Eruption
Joe's strength ISN'T singing. :)
wow, Davy's guitar is way out of tune, all over the place, would have been a great solo otherwise
a few bum notes? oh pleez... you know, his guitar out of tune wouldn't have bothered me any way near as much, if his ideas hadn't been so pedestrian. that this guy is even on stage, or worse, being force-fed down our throats as a "talent" of any kind, is an insult to great players & thinkers everywhere, but i guess that with an industry that now culls it's talent from tv amateur-show contests, whose only REAL criteria for elevating them to "artist" status is youth, i shouldn't be surprised...
WTF is this young guy? he's awful and way out of tune.
i dont like joe satriano.
Neither do I , really like joe Satriani though
wish I was there :D fantastic video!
