  • Here is a video of my boat setup. Runs 25mph consistently with an 11p prop. Going to have to go to a 12p because it still revs too high. Boat weighs 500lbs dry. As long as it’s setup correctly, this is a great hp motor for this boat. Thanks for watching!

    Perfect Video. Thats what I plan to buy. 1654 tracker with a 25 HP YAMAHA. I have research them all and I think this set up is best for fishing any lake with a children.

    I have same setup but with a 20 hp Tohatsu 👍 Can run 26 mph in bay all day long on 6 gallons of fuel 👌I had to put a jackplate on mine also, put my motor up 1 1/2 it runs perfect

    Thanks for sharing. My exact boat. If you put the wings on your cavitation plate, it will reduce porpoising, comes on plane quicker, and stays on plane at lower speeds. May give you a few more mph. Very inexpensive upgrade to performance. Did going to a 12 p prop help your rpms?

    Just one side note: that 20hp Mercury is actually made by Tohatsu, as was the Nissan 20hp (no longer sold by Nissan). That Mercury looks and sounds exactly like my 2008 Nissan 20hp and I know from experience that parts are interchangeable.

    If your looking at power to weight ratio, get a two-stroke. Had a G3 1756 SC deluxe, full front deck, three batteries, '80's model yamaha 25hp. Would do 23mph just me, 20mph with a another person. Hole shot was wonderful. Miss that boat.

    I got the same exact engine same year and same boat except it's a 1448 I used to be able to get 25 miles per hour out of it but ever since I did the bottom with some paint I was only able to get 23 mph out of it do you have any recommendation of what I can do to make it just a little faster again maybe a prop change do you have any recommendation on a size I don't have a Jack Plate like you got though

    I'm trying to reprop a 2019 20hp Mercury on a 2019 Tracker Grizzly 1648 and I'm getting very different results. Dry weight on the new grizzlies are 650lbs and I'm running it fully loaded around 1400lbs. The 10p prop gets around 5000-5800 RPM depending on headwind/chop. I went down to a 9p to gain some RPM but they go up to 6400rpm eventually when cruising on the 9p. My next test is using a 4-blade 9p and see if that keeps my RPMs in range. With the 9p or 10p props both are getting around 20-22mph. I was thinking about trying an 11p to see how that affects top speed but im worried it will drop rpms too low.

    • @jswoozy517
      @jswoozy517  5 лет назад +2

      Yeah, that is a lot of weight for a 20hp to push. The new grizzlies are a lot heavier than the one I currently have. When I am fully loaded its only pushing about 1000lbs including the motor weight, about 1150lbs with 2 people. Where is the cavitation plate located in relation to the bottom of your hull? I can run up to a 12p prop and still be between 5700-5800 RPM's. With an 11p I usually go above 6100 RPM's.

    I have a new 20hp Suzuki on the Grizzly 1448. TH plate. I mounted it a 1/2” above the keel. Prop is a 9.25x9 3 blade.
    Do you think I should raise the motor 1”. My hole shots are a little slow and the bow won’t come down quite enough at full throttle. I’m getting about 18-20 mph depending on water and wind conditions as it is. Get back to me. I appreciate.

    • @jswoozy517
      @jswoozy517  4 года назад

      Mighty Armory Nice setup! If it were me, first thing I’d do is figure out what rpm you are hitting at full throttle. Do you have a tachometer installed? This will tell you if you need a different prop or not. For example I was running a 11 or 12p prop you are running a 9. The position of the motor should be perfect. My cavitation plate sat about a 1/2” above the bottom. Also mess with the trim setting to see if a different pin setting on the motor works out better. Hope this helps!

    i have a 2020 1548 with a 2020 25hp mercury 4 stroke and i only get 27mph. I checked the pitch and it was 9.5 on the prop that came with it from bass pro shop. recently i damaged my prop and i went to order a stainless steel one off bass pro shop, and its a 15 pitch for my motor. How come the pitch is so much greater when i look on the website for a new one? Do you think they gave me the wrong propeller?

      Yeah, 20hp's are a really great motor choice for these types of skiffs. I found one with the custom matched trailer that was a great deal so I sold my other and used the profit to buy this one. I do miss that Tohatsu motor though! Nice, you got a great setup then!

    do you guys think a 20hp would plane out a grizzly 1860 all-weld? 750lbs dry weight. 1400lbs fully loaded.

    • @jswoozy517
      @jswoozy517  5 лет назад

      I believe that is going to be too much for the 20hp. Even if it was able to plane it, that motor wouldn't last long because of the amount of wear and tear it would go through pushing that kind of setup...

    • @mriphone1000
      @mriphone1000 4 года назад

      I have a 1648 alweld grizzly, it's a pretty heavy boat. I'd recommend going with more power than a 20hp. I'd probably start with something more than a 25hp at least especially if it's a heavy boat, it's going to take alot of power just plane it.

    • @discoveryoutdoorskcfishing236
      @discoveryoutdoorskcfishing236 4 года назад

      I recently drove an 1860 that had a 15 horsepower on it and it was a total turd. Wouldn't plane out and I think it did a total of like seven and a half miles per hour.

    The best fishing lake in my area has a 25hp restriction and I’m trying to get a good idea for the perfect size boat for a 25. This might be the one.

    • @jswoozy517
      @jswoozy517  4 года назад +1

      The Great White When dealing with this size of boat everything is about weight. I think the lightest weight 25hp out there is the Yamaha at 130lbs. I used to have a 25hp that had electric tilt and trim that weighed 182lbs and was on a much lighter boat. This 20hp has outperformed that 25 and it is on a heavier boat, just because of the weight difference.
