  • Playing in a downpour, acting out Bible stories, eating geography dinners every night. Also, first chick to hatch from our hen Cinnamon. Another great week for the Holladays with lots of hard work, fun, and learning.

    Even though it might not be a “ school day”, there is so much learning happening in your home. Gardening, harvesting, storing for winter, cooking, ducks, chickens, Bible story plays…… great job!!!

    Hi! I’m readying for starting homeschooling. I wondered if you do a kind of theme all year. I saw the checklists and it looks like core subjects continue each year. Just wanted to pick your brain about this! ❤️

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 месяца назад

      We change history and science every year and do a theme for those. Yes, they do reading and math every year. Math is a set curriculum but L.A. changes from year to year. Sometimes we do a bought curriculum which requires a lot of work. Other years when we're doing a heavy load of history or science we do lighter L.A. and just count writing in journals, reading chapter books and read aloud books, and things like that as L.A.
      Email me for a homeschooling coaching call if you'd like! I'd love to chat! marcie@singlemomonafarm.com

    Was your storm caused by Hurricane Beryl. In my area lots of trees fell, smashing houses, fences and cars. I’m glad your trees were in the woods. I love the imaginations of your children.

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 месяца назад +1

      No, Beryl was a couple of weeks ago. I think it was hitting St. Louis when we flew there on July 9. At least that's what the pilot was saying. My video was filmed July 20 after Beryl was long gone. We got 3.5" of rain in one day, but no wind at all. Yet 3 trees fell in the woods because they were so heavy with rain and were already dead.
      But it's neat hearing about your experience with it. I'm so sorry that trees fell and smashed houses. That's awful! Praying for those people.

    Love your geography idea! Do you use a curriculum for this? Jolynne

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 месяца назад

      No, I just write my own. Use a big book from the library that has a page or two about every country and I pick and choose what I want to teach from that. Then I research artists and composers I want to teach about and usually use wikipdea for that. And then search up most popular foods from those countries too. I'm compiling it all and wanted to get it for sale by now but haven't finished it. It's a lot of work!! You can wait for me to finish it or make it up yourself too by picking out everything you want to learn and doing it! It's really fun. If your kids are young, maybe only do 20 countries or even just 5. Spend a month on each country if you want. Homeschooling is fun because you can do whatever you want and whatever you're interested in!

    How were you guys acting out things in the Bible? I hope Ukraine will be one of the countries as it is my ancestral homeland. Prayers are so much needed now for them.

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 месяца назад

      The kids were just in the living room and put on simple robes and costumes to act out the stories. For example, Andy made cardboard armor and had a wooden sword he made a long time ago when he was being Goliath. Tilly had a little robe on to be David the shepherd. And she used a baby blanket for a slingshot to pretend to hit Goliath with a rock.
      Yes, we will study Ukraine! That is so neat it is your ancestral homeland. Please tell me about it. And tell me your family history with it so I can tell my kids. Also what is your first name? I tell my kids about you, but call you "my blind fan". I'd like to call you by name. Thanks for listening to our videos! I'm trying to do better explaining them, but I usually remember after I videoed. Oops! But I'll get better!

      @@singlemomonafarm First name is Ryan. Ryanm my youtube name stands for Ryan Michael. One thing about Ukraine is one of the primary religions is Eastern Orthodox. Every Eastern Orthodox Christian either has to have their first or middle name be an Orthodox saint to be baptized. So Michael stands for Archangel Michael who is considered the patron saint of Kyiv. I also heard he is considered the saint for police officers.

      I thought people would say that. It looked rough, but I assure you they weren't. One is a runner duck which is very tall and skinny. Without the fat and feathers it looked rough. I thought the same thing. But when I went out to tell the girls I saw it wasn't. They were just having them jump in puddles. They also gave them lots of hugs and kisses like babydolls.
