Thanks so much ive been watching so many of your videos and they help so much just out of your videos i can now throw a slider very good with a lot of movement and the changeup im still working on it though!!!!
In all my years of pitching, I found the change up the hardest to control (expect of course a knuckle ball). One thing I found to be a constant, fundamentally speaking, as long as the speed changed and the ball stayed level to the batter's knees or slightly below, it was impossible for him to generate any amount of power to drive the ball and most often a shallow flare or ground ball was the result. If the ball hung up above the knees, I unfortunately saw a few of those leave the park.
as a fan this was always my least understood pitch. As I've gotten more and more into baseball i love the changeup. some guys get crazy movement out of it.
Thank you for showing us how to throw the change up. The only thing that I hoped you would have done ✅ is to set up the camera a little bit better because your right foot 🦶 kept on blocking how the ⚾️ would break every time you pitched the ⚾️.
I think your videos are really good. But I would suggest you reposition your pitch camera - so that your foot doesn't get in the way of the resulting pitch.
Awesome video as usual. I went through a years long learning arc with several change up varieties. Too long to type, but for new pitchers learning this, you have to throw it just like a fastball (with the same arm velocity) and let the grip slow the pitch down, otherwise good hitters will spot it. So you have to “sell it” to the hitters to fool them. I agree with coach about the circle change (at least for me anyway).
Coach, I throw 4 seam, 2 seam, change up, cutter, curve. I don’t really have a use for my change up, because my two seam runs further arm side, drops harder, and is a faster pitch. Where is the place I can work my change up into this pitch mix?
you dont need a cutter, its a bad pitch for your age. And you definitely need a changeup becasue you only have one off-speed pitch, your curve. A 2-seamer is just a fastball that moves; its nothing more than that. Fastball - curve - change is what you need
the change up from this video can compliment ur 2 seam very well as theyll both move in the same direction, but the speed can really put a batter off kilter where theyll mistime it for a 2 seam fastball. u can even have this mind game going where u have the change up and 2 seam mixup, they now know u have that change up that travels almost the same as the 2 seamer, but is slower, so theyll sit on the change up anticipating a changeup. then u hurl a 2 seamer catching them off guard with the same lookin trajectory only with a faster speed. and then vice versa in reverse, thinkin its a 2 seam but its actually a change up. i think this change up will be a real good pitch to compliment ur 2 seamer.
Can you take some speed off by getting it to roll off (the "paintbrush" as he nicely describes it) a bit more? Definitely get how some people just naturally throw effective sinkers, but anything you can do to make it look like the sinker but have a good degree separation would help out. I never had any success with splitters and it's not a really good pitch for youth arm health but I'd play around with some different grips to try and find an offspeed pitch that works. I had tiny hands so the "OK" circle change naturally took a lot off and moved a lot, but you'll probably have to find something that gets close to the two seam movement but comes out that 8-12% slower if you can. Best of luck!
As I was practicing the inside spin motion, I had to stop watching the video because you kept saying dump the Dr. Pepper. Its unfortunate because I was just starting to make progress in my changeup.

Most under rated baseball coach by far!
thanks!
Who's rating him low? 🤔
Thank you bro, I needed to do flatmoumd for my coach and I didn’t know how to throw a change up but this helps, thank you😅

Great change up pitch instructional video.
Great content Dan!! Could you perhaps do a, “best pitches for different arm slots” ???
thats a good topic idea - thanks!
Great idea for a vid.
Good idea. Great video. Being an old style Phil Niekro knuckleballer, I appreciate your teaching style and sincerity.
Hands down the best explanation for a change up!! Going to watch this video again with my son.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good info Dan.. would appreciate a slow motion shot of the ball leaving the hand and spinning towards the plate. If you get a chance.

Excellent explanation on the change! Also, just bought Clean Your Cleats for my 11U son, can't wait for him to read it to me :) Thank you, Coach!
Read it to you! Payback for all the books you read to him as a little one?
Another great video Dan. Your videos are greatly appreciated.
I appreciate that!
Thank you this helped me a lot
Glad it helped
Great Job explaining , Bought the book !👏
thank you so much for the support!
very good!
Should you change your thumb position if you have a higher arm slot so the ball can get more run? Great video. Can’t wait to try this grip.
tinker with it - there are no absolutes, so just see what works best
How do you feel abt the star change? Ive recently started throwing it and its alright but I was just wondering what you thought of it
meh

yeah i know - that was a shame that happened

Are you still coaching the loose wrist with a palm up thumb down action?
sorry i dont know what you're asking
Should I play junior college? I'm older 26. But a switch hitter and switch pitcher
i dont know

What age do you recommend to start this pitch
12

As a lefty playing varsity, I’d argue a cutter is a good pitch, but what you said about the change makes sense.

@@bf2768 cuttter is pretty bad for younger ligaments thats that main problem with it
Also known as the road change !
Can you pronate a circle change the same way?
yes but not as easily
Can’t see a damn thing with your leg in the way every time you throw it! What a great height to put the camera angle!!
the video is free to you. cost you nothing. are you this big of a jerk in real life, too? I feel sorry for you.
Do you prefer any other grips for younger kids or no😊
no
With that arm motion, (pouring out the Dr. Pepper) you're essentially teaching how to throw a hybrid screwball.
i mean it does have screwball sink/run
As I was practicing the inside spin motion, I had to stop watching the video because you kept saying dump the Dr. Pepper. Its unfortunate because I was just starting to make progress in my changeup.
Ok?
😂😂
Couldn’t see the movement of the ball cause ur foot blocked the camera every time on ur finish
Oh well
The least thing that you see is the ball on the footage
You throw a pretty nasty change up. Better than mine was.
