To be fair to the entire cast, the script for this movie is beyond stupid. Nobody could say stuff like "I greet you, my mother" and make it sound natural. Even without John Wayne's trademark drawl, the dialogue for this movie does not make anything resembling sense. Was Wayne miscast? Oh, yes. But the original choice, Marlon Brando, would have been just as much in the weeds.
@@MrNuts70LOL, the original comment barely mentions the casting. It sounds like you were looking for an excuse to make a tangent on "SJW's & social media". Either way, pretty much everyone agreed AT THE TIME that John Wayne was miscast & that the movie and script were terrible all around. It has nothing to do with "SJW's & social media", the movie just sucks.
I've never understood how or why there has ever been a fascination with John Wayne. He is absolutely one of the most Overrated actors in the history of acting.
He was like the movie equivalent of Schwarzenegger at the time with terrible acting but people enjoyed the movies anyway. And just remember that there's a lot of financial and political stuff behind the Oscars so don't take it serious.
Duke made a huge following with his westerns. He excelled at that. He was good at chamber piece assemble casting, and adventures. Occasionally, you may meet an old man who prefers his pre startdom 1930s oaters. His military movies are a mixed batch. For the most part he was fine. Reality is that Hollywood constantly made some bizzare casting picks like British as the Nazis, Gary Cooper as Marco Polo, Kevin Costner as Robin Hood. List goes on.
Racism, at least on the movie studio’s end. The concept of having characters from another culture speak normally in English and letting the audience assume they’re speaking their native tongue most likely didn’t exist.

Chris Pratt as Mario: I’m the most bizarre casting ever!
John Wayne as Genghis Kahn: allow me to introduce myself
Allow me to introduce myself Pilgrim*
Well for me i like Joaquin Phoenix Mark Wahlberg and Eddie Vedder
This is like Tommy Wiseu level acting
John Wayne wishes

Oh hey, son, what's up? How's your hunting life?

Even the music sounds like mount and blade 😂

Erik Thomas 😂😂
and worst location to film ever
They even scooped up some sand and took it back to the studio.
It was actually a nuclear test site and half the cast got radiation sickness.
thats why its the worst location to film
Where did they film this?
@@tzetzatin Utah about a miles away of the test site in Nevada
Genghis Khan was Mongolian....John Wayne didnt even make an attempt to change his voice. It was almost like an SNL skit...
Oh man oh god oh man oh god oh man oh god oh man
This is on par with "oh god oh man oh god oh man" or "I did nawt hit her! I deeeed naaawt!" 🤣

To be fair this movie was made in a time before SJW and social media.
Also to be fair it wasn't made to be as serious as you are.
I feel like Daniel Day Lewis could act well with a bad line like that.

+MrBeautifulba1 totally right, and he also won an Oscar

Blasphemy!
;-D
Because he was looked at as a “Mans Man” basically the entire middle class loved him. Which was huge back then.
I just see Nathan Lane after Wayne gets off the horse and does that thing with his TRex arms.
Worse movie the Duke ever made.
All of the people in that scene died from cancer due to filming the movie in a nuclear wasteland
Which pixel is John Wayne? Lol jk funny upload
Truly this man was the Son of God.......................
Too funny. I remember that.
That other movie was decent.
Son of GAAAAAAAWD! 😇
I wish I was cool enough to act like this 24/7
We now know what is worse than seeing Katherine Hepburn play an Asian in "Dragon Seed" (1944).
She looked like the uncanny valley in human form.
I don’t know if I should blame this on John Wayne or Dick Powell for not reminding John Wayne that they’re not shooting a western!

In a country that was 90% white and 9% black and the rest 1% lol who did you expect they cast from a pool of actors that were predominantly european
one of the worst actors EVER, at any level....
Any level? LMFAO...
Agreed.
People in the west do seem to like Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan...Too bad the casting is so strange...How come no one made a movie about Aetius....
+天王 probably because he's not a household name like the others
