- "Since its debut on 10/19/71 in Minneapolis, the very same night Keith Godchaux played his first show as a member of the Grateful Dead, Ramble On Rose was a consistently played Garcia-Hunter song right up to the Summer of 1995. Never recorded in the studio, the definitive version is the Europe '72 album, along with several other live-only recordings that were never given a studio treatment, including Tennessee Jed, He's Gone, Jack Straw, and Brown-Eyed Women." - David Lemieux

This song ain’t never gonna end ………..helalua
Hi David! Did the Dead play two nights at the Harding Theater in S.F. Before the Europe tour or after. Very early 70's. And where two keyboard players on stage. Thanks! My first Dead experience was thinking first night.
This blows the Europe 72 out of the water.
the grateful dead played the harding theater on Nov 6 and 7, 1971
We thank the musical gods everyday for that long haired, T shirted smiling guitar genius that took our brain to musical heaven so many many times. If you don’t love this video you don’t know what great music is. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly!
I think he is one of the most underrated singers of all time to me. His voice is just heaven.
EVH blows him out of the water tho
@@vinnienick4004Yeah well, you know, thats just like, your opinion man.
Musical Gods you say? So Apollo and Hermes? 😉
My 5 yr old immediately starts grooving to this one everytime!!!!♡
The bass line in this song really carries it home for me
Seriously. He goes from deep and boomy to growly and throaty from note to note, it seems.
I have always thought this was the definitive version of this song. Not only is Jerry's guitar playing absolutely perfect, his singing is among the most soulful I've ever heard. Thanks for bringing this to You Tube. I tried like the Dickens to get into that show but to no avail...
Agree. Finest version of ROR I've ever heard.
i mean this show is pure class, and their version of "Stagger Lee" from this same night often gets stuck in my head ...
I have to agree 100%. And Donna was stunning as well.
Love grateful dead Number one n ripple is my very favorite
It's too slow, my favorite version is 11/17/73, great playing by Bob and Keith on that one too.
So many bonfires, picnics and bike rides to this song 😭😍.
Those were the glory days lol
i never really got into the Grateful Dead, but dang, this was really good. Now I have to check them out !
"Slow Jerry" is the best!!!
What a treat to have such lovely A/V of this moment. Happy new year to all of my fellow dead heads xoxo
Hey now. May the music bring you peace. "If you get confused, listen to the music play"
Thanks u too
Same too you!
Best rambling rose lead by Jerry ever.
I haven't heard every version but I'm 66 and have been a dead head since 1967.
I miss enjoying FULL concerts, start to finish, space and drums included.,.,Back to my collection of tapes i guess
"Take you to the leader of the band" Jerry's singing great playing great and looking great.
This night was truly the end of amazing era of the Grateful Dead.
Ah...when music was wonderful.
I had to rewind to 3:10 four times today.
So many dead songs where I do this because I just gotta hear it again lol. Despite Jerry no longer being around and the original Grateful Dead no longer playing, we sure are privileged in this day and age.
Fuck, this is wonderful. And I love that Donna is awesome on this one.
Nice laid-back, tonally sweet version.
this is primo jerry right here, riding the rhythm like a surfer cruising thriugh the cosmos. one point, about 5 minutes in, he rides a solo right over bobs rythm, up and back. he looks right at bob after that, like, "did you catch that?". bob looks back at jerry right away like a kid trying to keep up on a bike. LETS GO, GRATEGUL DEAD FOREVER!
Ramble and Dose
Did u say ur name was ramblin rose???? Ramble on baby! Settle down easy!! Ramble on Rose!!!!
I was there!!
Nice man I wish there was some kind of award or like trophy like a celebratory you know complimentary like t-shirt but you know what that's not all that sarcastic I'm from San Rafael Marin County San Francisco California and I fucking die for Jerry and if you were there I was only 10 years old all right so by default you are mother fucking awesome Rastafari Tucson Arizona Sonoran Desert yes I keep on keeping on Jerry you at the show I will always think of you and even though we will never meet like who cares like you were there so you're like a witness Jehovah's Witness
Thanks from Italy, Uncle Bobo!
Late 70’s Jerry is my favorite Jerry ❤
So much Great fun! Grateful for the tech that lets me see it now, years later, and revel in it's honed glory!
Jerry in the 70s oh ya nothing better 🎸✌️👏
1978 a good year for them too. And always had more fun when they were at home. Jerry's solo beginning at 4:13 is off the charts good. He was a real jazz player at his best.
The 70’s were the absolutely best Dead ever!
Classic Love
Amazing!!! As always ❤️
Happy New Year Everyone! Soft Shoeing To This One!! A Smiling Jerry…..
It's always been a favorite and Jer Bear belted this out like no other time. #GoodOldDays

Happy New Weir!
All hail Jerry I’ve been listening to him since I was in the womb 1974 into 75 just before Blues For Allah ❤
Sittin' plush with a royal flush, aces back to back 🌄
THIS VERSION IS SO LIGHT AND AIRY, FLUFFY AND SUCH...
Oh hell yeah!!! 😊
Excellent
Thank you. Happy new year!
It's kind of astonishing to see how Jerry aged from mid 1977 to the end of 1978. Seems more like five years than a year and a half. It's true they played so many live concerts and no doubt the hard drug use worsened. Wow. I love the music, but I wish we could have had modern addiction counseling back in the 1970s. For selfish reasons, I think it could have led to better new songs from 1979 on. Alas, I am content with what we have and "grateful" indeed.
Hello, Josh, from, JD in Colorado...^

Hey Dead cover bands! Maybe you guys can figure out something else too play. This is perfection and no one will ever top or equal this. Remember you can never copy the deep soul the Dead had. And it was also a reflection of society and the times folks where living in. " Happy New Year Everyone " 2023
Could be a hair faster, but great version. 😎
Just like Jack the Ripper, just like Mojo Hand,
Just like Billy Sunday, ina shotgun ragtime band,
Just like New York City, just like Jericho,
Pace the halls and climb the walls, get out when they blow.
Did you say your name was Ramblin' Rose?
Ramble on baby, settle down easy
Ramble on Rose.
Just like Jack and Jill, papa told the jailer
One heat up, and one cool down, nothin' for the tailor.
Just like Jack and Jill, mama told the sailer
One go up, and one go down, do yourself a favor.
Did you say your name was Ramblin' Rose?
Ramble on baby, settle down easy
Ramble on Rose.
I'm gonna sing a hundred verses in ragtime,
I know this song, it ain't never gonna end.
Gonna march you up and down along your county line,
Take you to the leader of a band.
Just like Crazy Otto, just like Wolfman Jack,
Sittin' plush with a royal flush, aces back to back.
Just like Mary Shelly, just like Frankenstein,
Clank your chains and count your change, and try to walk the line.
Did you say your name was Ramblin' Rose?
Ramble on baby, settle down easy
Ramble on Rose.
I'm gonna sing you a hundred verses in ragtime,
I know this song, it ain't never gonna end.
Gonna march you up and down the local county line,
Take you to the leader of a band.
Good-bye mama and papa
Good-bye Jack and Jill
The grass ain't greener
The wine ain't sweeter
Either side of the hill.
Did you say your name was Ramblin' Rose?
Ramble on baby, settle down easy
Ramble on Rose.
Ramble on Rose.
I'm nothing like Jack the Ripper...
It should be a $100 RUclips credit for the first person to put up lyrics.
