Pretty much every Weeknd music video is visually great too, even though some of his earlier ones were a bit more basic. He definitely really upped his budget for After Hours and Dawn FM.
Fun fact - Michael Jackson was actually going to make a TRUE Successor to Thriller. While he did make another horror-themed short film in 1997, called "Ghosts", in 2001, Mike released his last album "Invincible", with the last track being "Threatened", a song similar to Thriller, but much more dark and aggressive. The song was planned to have a music video, with a choreographed dance sequence, just like Thriller. However, due to a fallout with Sony, the album became a flop for Mike's Standards, and thus only 2 Music Videos were released. Thus, the music video for Threatened was lost. Give a listen to Threatened, you can almost see Michael dancing to it.
