    Thanks very much Nat. That was a really clear helpful explanation. I've just swapped my Canon Pro 1000 (A nightmare printer to own) for the SC P900. I'm hoping the cold print head gives less issues with print head blockages etc.

    Nat, I desperately need your expertise before I commit to purchasing my Epson P900. So, I plan on producing 17"x48" color prints on .03mm Styrene Sheets. Styrene is used often for UV digital printing, but I don't have over $10K for a decent UV printer. Therefore, the P900 looks like a great choice for me. So, I have tested the P900's UltraChrome PRO10 Ink on my styrene sheets. I did a test by dripping droplets of this ink onto the styrene sheets (just to see if this styrene can absorb the ink successfully) . . . Upon dripping the ink, I took a paper towel and smeared the ink in various directions on the sheet. After 24 hours, the ink was "dry enough" and did absorb. However, when I took another paper towel and rubbed the color back and forth, there was a bit of color that transferred to the paper towel. . I solved this problem by spraying a protective clear coat over the ink and styrene sheet. It no longer smeared. --- Now for my question and concern "When you print from the P900, does any part of the print head, nozzles, rollers or those spikey wheels that assist the papers movement come in contact with the actual artwork? My goal is to print out my 17"x48" artwork on styrene sheets without the ink being touched during the printing process; so as to let the ink dry. Obviously, if I used a Certified Epson Media Paper, I would not be asking you this question because this Ink dries quickly on proper paper. But "I HAVE TO" use Styrene in this case. Sounds weird I know. But if I could get your insight on this question, it would mean a lot to me. Note: The finished pieces I produce will all have 2-3inch margins around it, So I am not printing borderless. THANKS, Andy

    What you said about doing nozzle checks every week to avoid print head clogs is what terrifies me about the prospect of "upgrading" to the P900 from my beloved 3880. I have oftentimes gone for months without making a single print. I turn on the 3880, let it run through its cleaning cycle (which it does automatically when it hasn't been used for a while), and then run a nozzle check on "auto". Once in a while, it needs a second pass, but usually, I get a clean "print" on the first pass. Something tells me that I won't be that lucky with a P900...

      I have been using the sc p900 for about 2 years now, I had the same concern as you. Then I HAD to not print for a month and a half, and the support just told me to not move the printer and turn it off. There is no warning on the running the printer every week in the user manual. So I haven't printed for that long. Turns out the printer was absolutely fine, no clog, no nothing, ready to print straight away. I haven't printed regurlarly since then and the printer is fine :)

      @@carlocchio15 I've been taking classes at the local college that have new P700 printers. They refuse to calibrate the $5000 Macs and insist that we do test prints. The first print is always bad. But at home, with my calibrated Dell monitor, I get instant color corrected prints each time.

    • @carlocchio15
      @carlocchio15 2 года назад

      @@gosman949 Monitor calibrating is the way to go. Before investing into a dedicated photo monitor, I calibrated my 2021 M1 iMac (whose monitor is said to be far from perfect for photography) and must say that my P900 prints are quite fine and much better than what I got before calibrating my iMac.
      I used a Datacolor SpyderX Elite for that and, together with my Epson printer, it changed my world.
      You might ask the college people to let you calibrate one Mac. You can save your calibrated color profile as JAY and set it up when you use that Mac, to take it back as it was after every printing session of yours: System Preferences > Monitor > Color and you can shift between the inbuilt color profile and your JAY in seconds.
      They'd see no change and you's save tons of paper and time - and headaches!
      All the best :)

    I just bought the SC-P900. Not having any luck getting the program to work. It seemed to upload alright but I know it didn't. I never got the AirPrint Epson option and it won't let me reinstall the program because it says I can't reinstall. The other problem I'm having is, before I installed the EPSON software, I get a "Paper Out" error and says "Paper out in Roll Paper Unit" and, I'm not even using roll paper. It hangs there I have to turn off, and on again in order to print again. I have been having this problem even before I tried to load this software.

    Question: if I want to change to USB because my wifi at my studio is not always reliable, what steps do I take to do that? I've looked at the manual, and it only gives instruction to do the opposite (USB to WiFi).

      I read in an article that the manual says to change from USB to Wi-Fi requires you have to delete the old software and start all over with a fresh installation! Bummer. Luckily, I started with Wi-Fi and have had no problems so far.

    Very helpful video. Question, how often should I print without worrying about printer heads drying?

    • @Ricardo-SW
      @Ricardo-SW 2 года назад +4

      Joe says weekly, but I do it every 12 days from last use, either a print or a nozzle check. I also keep a small bowl of water on the print tray, under the print head. I live in a very dry climate, and this works well for me. One other thing I do is to periodically remove and gently shake the ink cartridges to stir them up- maybe unnecessary, but it works for me, as I have no problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    I started by using the very first colour Epson Inkjet printer which also means I have been around for a very long time. I do like the 900 but Epson hates or just ignores my operating system, Linux, which is too bad for me and them I guess. I do have access to a print service so I will probably stay with that so that I don't have to deal with operating systems that I abhor.

      @@epsonuk3868 I am well aware. My professional working life was in I.T. I was a huge fan of the technology Epson has produced. I created a revolution in the forest/wood products with the 2550 (I think I remember the number right was colour impact printer). I had people from all over the world looking at the system. Mostly It was a modern database approach handling inventory but the flash were the colour coded tags, that caught a lot of attention. For your software and drivers you could just add a wrapper so it to interface to any operating system. Mind you, when I though of that forest product system I got a lot of negative feed back until it was up and running. I remember the first day when the shipper looked out the window and said, "you loaded that truck wrong, may be this is going to be that bad after all". Years ago, a dear long time friend and artist was swinging over to digital printing and I directed him to Epson dealer in Vancouver and he never looked back and he did a lot of work on the side doing printing for other artists. He became quite the expert. I want to thank you for your response.

    I bought the p900 last year and watched a number of videos about it and was initially impressed. BUT a few months later I have to say: I would not recommend the device and the software and the products (Canvas etc.) to anyone. ICC profiles from Epson suddenly disappear from Photoshop, can no longer be created and therefore canvas etc. can no longer be used. Help from service at Epson: ZERO! Then Epson Print Layout installed: Printer is not recognized! Although original drivers from the Epson website are used! Just really bad!
