Can you run all of these engines as a "stock" engine and still pass smog (CARB-legal)... I was just curious if it was possible to have an IAG engine that I can run as an OE-replacement but have the benefits of toughness/durability and the potential to increase power beyond 500hp down the road (if/when I move to a different state).
Hi, I live in CA as well. Just make sure your compression ratio is going to be very close to your original block and head set up. forged or not, so long as the stock tune can run the fueling correctly for the brief period during smog, you should be capable of passing without issue. Granted your emissions devices are all installed and functional. for example, a 10:1 compression engine on the stock map would likely be a huge no-go and be impossible to pass smog as a result.
@@sweatyben1550 Hi, I have two WRX STI 2.5, one with stage 2.5, and one with iag longblock 900, if you use a standard thickness gasket (stage 2.5) the compression ratio remains the same as the standard EJ25, so by mapping the ECU correctly you have no problem, you could also map the 3 maps in a different way, in order to pass the emission control with the first map. If you just want to make the EJ25 engine better strong, you have two options: 1 Buy new pistons and connecting rods and keep the power low, or take for example a 2.5 iag stage, using the standard gasket, and a standard head, then you will have power in safety and no problem with emissions. If you need it, I have 2 WRX STI with IAG engines. A greeting

In California, I don’t believe there are any CARB legal tunes. You need to be able to flash ECU to factory tune to legitimately pass, as far as I know.
I just spent way too much money getting a mostly stock build, with an old used bottom end, and forged Pistons and h-rods. The piston slap sounds atrocious and I was told it's completely normal. I'm still in the break-in period and I'm terrified about what will happen when tuning begins. If I'm lucky, she holds. Otherwise, you guys have my money booked for the next build. I wish I had seen your builds prior to spending the cash 😭 Your prices would have allowed me to do so much more, and with confidence.
Great video, but what is the point of forging your internals on a semi closed block, when the cylinder wall flexes under heat cycles and boost pressure. Which causes head gasket failure, to say you rate the semi closed deck at 500hp is really pushing it. Here in the uk, all good engine builders highly recommend close decking at 400hp. Some say even at stock power it should be closed decked due to the movement on the cylinder wall. Forging your engine won't stop head gasket failure. Interesting video though 👍
He's talking 500BhP which is like 330-350whp. If your builder is saying anything past 400 he means WHP needs a closed deck. I hear a lot of RAs are making past 400whp on stock block but personally for peace of mind I would go closed deck after 400 WHP
I've been looking at 2.5 block and the site states "Case Machining - Modified for improved oiling" but this was not mentioned once in this video from any block
Considering that block is rated @ 700 BHP, you will be risking a rebuild very soon, if you factor in drive train loss you will be over the rated crank hp rating. You should have jumped up to the Magnum block.
@@SiCaRiI_DaGgEr they've since relabeled the stage 2.5 to the 750 block. I think the limiting factor is the head gasket at those boost levels. If you pair it with an Athena fire lock ring head gasket, you're golden. Josh Bader has a customer that hit 650whp on that setup with no issues.... and that's a stock location turbo.
@@RicondaRacing Head gasket is not the only limiting factor. Type of head studs used, poor assembly, distortion ect. There are noted issues with Firelock setup if using the wrong sized studs. 14mm head studs are recommended .. I urge you discuss this with IAG and your builder. I went with the Cooper ring head gaskets by IAG's recommendation on my particular build. 2.5 Closed deck 750/Rotated setup 500whp
Is there a follow up video explaining the downsides to each block? It almost seems like if you had infinite money you would just get the stage 4 or even the X block since it didn't seem like there would be any negatives to using those blocks for a daily making 300 hp. Or is there downsides to streetability to each level?
Good question. There’s really not any downsides to the higher stages other than cost. Buy the highest stage you can afford which meets or exceeds your power goals for maximum reliability.
Are there long-term downsides to going closed-deck? I want a super reliable 400-500whp setup (generally on the 400 end of the spectrum), but am uncertain if the closed decks have inherent cooling issues or are prone to excessive wear.
There are no cooling issues with the closed deck process. Since the insert is less than an inch thick and has holes which match the head gasket, it still allows full flow of coolant. The strength of closed deck system makes it ideal for long term reliability, with no downsides.
Have you guys developed your program for the Fa20 cylinder heads? If so what stages do you offer? I already have your stage 3 block, and my bare cylinders heads with all the goodies. I just got an IAG 2.5 with 11mm 625+ CA head studs. I'm planning on making 620whp with it. I'm hoping that'll be enough to hold 33lbs of boost.
@@RicondaRacing
Head gasket is not the only limiting factor.
Is there a way to make reliable 800whp on an fa20? Or just I just give up and go with another car
How many miles would a stage 3 last at rated power and not being driven very hard
@IAG preformace do you guys do WPC treatments on any of your parts?
I was just going to ask that
Are there long-term downsides to going closed-deck? I want a super reliable 400-500whp setup (generally on the 400 end of the spectrum), but am uncertain if the closed decks have inherent cooling issues or are prone to excessive wear.
There are no cooling issues with the closed deck process. Since the insert is less than an inch thick and has holes which match the head gasket, it still allows full flow of coolant. The strength of closed deck system makes it ideal for long term reliability, with no downsides.
@@theiagchannel thank you!!
If I had a penny every time, I heard “Okay,” I would have a thousand dollars.
Have you guys developed your program for the Fa20 cylinder heads? If so what stages do you offer? I already have your stage 3 block, and my bare cylinders heads with all the goodies. I just need the assembly and machining. Ive checked your site and it does not offer any information. Also as the AOS is available for the BRZ/FA20 block
You can use an AOS on anything... even for refried beans.
When will the FA24 block series be available?
In the testing process now.
So if the stage 1 block will work with the stock ECU factory tune, does stages 2,3,4 and CNC billet short blocks work with the stock ECU factory tune as well? I’m curious if all IAG short blocks can be drop in replacements for stock motor for use with stock tune.
thank you!
How do those case plugs add strength to the block?
Yes, that's the major benefit.
Can you guys do video for your fa 20 stages
Coming soon!
Are the stage 2.5 short blocks compatible with stock ecu's or no?
A really different question , you guys ever think you'd branch out into EZ, EG subaru 6 cylinder blocks ??
I tried about a year ago and was referred over to outfront. 10/10 suggest outfront for any 6 cyl needs
Do you provide Cryo and or WPC treatments?
We can do custom configurations based on your needs. Email us at sales@iagperformance.com for more info.
Will/Did you ever did a 3.6 H6 engine build?
We have not nor have plans for it
I have a question, if i got stage 2 or stage 3 fa20 motor of frs, was that straight bolt on? Then would i need to worry about dmv /smog cause i live in california
I bought a iag stage 4 short block closed deck stage 5 head also have a ets rotated turbo 30-900 which power hp would you recommend for daily and also fun drive ?
My question is I want to build a block, including heads. I’m sure that you could imagine a lot of questions. 2.5 tuff and what heads would be the best bet.
David, give us a call and we'd be happy to answer all your questions 410-840-3555
Is the stage 1 for an EJ25 discontinued? Couldn't find it listed on the site
Yes it was discontinued about 2 weeks ago
I have a 2007 subaru impreza 2.5i non turbo
I dont know what iag block can i use and heads or motor mounts ! Any help? Cant find nothing for the 2.5i i really want to put some power down with my car thanks.

do you have a fa20 video?

Hey friends I need a recommendation. I bought a Subaru WRX STI 2012. But it consumes too much oil. I asked the previous owner if he knew something about it and he said he had a blowby. well he cheated me .. but he told me that I had to put a forged motor short .... do you think that if I put only forged pistons and rings on it, I would solve the problem. or do I have to put all the iag short block. ??? what dou you recommend.????
if I want to build a 350 whp wrx, which block suit for me?
As of today, the 550.
Can I order a Stage 2.5 with the +2mm rod/piston combo? I really want the extra RPMs but I don't want firelock gaskets.
Hit up our build specialists and they can discuss options for you! 410-840-3555
Looking to make between 500-550 WHP on a FA20DIT WRX. Which block do you recommend for purchase?
Stage 3 extreme FA20 DIT closed deck short block. Going with the stage 3 extreme will still give you room to make more power in the future.
@@theiagchannel What about the 450-75 WHP mark if I didn’t want to deal with going port injection and the cost associated with that when you try to make over 475?
@@christianrios7037 From what ive seen from local guys, still the same Stage 3 extreme block. Problem with the FA20 is factory ECU exhausts the breadth of its fueling beyond 600hp and thats when its time to get a MoteC
Hopefully you have those stuff for FA20DIT as well..
they do. its on their website.
@@ZZPxFTW do you have an idea what is differences of short and long block was? A side for compression
@@SGQ12 a short block is just the bottom end without heads (so casehalves, crank, rods, and pistons,) and a long block just means it has heads attached. Their ported heads use OEM castings, so stock 10.6::1 compression ratio regardless of just a short block block and swapping your stock heads, or if you do a full $15k long block from them. That is, if the head gasket you use is also stock thickness. They'll probably work with you if you want to run different pistons with larger cam reliefs or whatever though. Damn, they should hire me lol
@@ZZPxFTW hahahahahahhaah
Video coming soon on the FA20 and EJ20 line.
@iag, when are you going to be offering fa24’s?
Coming soon.
if im installing a built block and there is nothing wrong with the current block, is the timing chain and tensioners ok or should i replace them? (fa20dit)
Depending on the mileage, we would recommend it but it all goes off inspection when they are removed.
Hi can you build EJ20 natural aspirate non turbo engine can do close deck short block?
Do you ship to Oahu?
We do! Give us a call and our build advisors can get you setup!
thanks for the video
So what would be the best bang for the bucks for a 500 hp block??
Stage 2.5 or Magnum if you are looking for future growth.
Do you cryogenically treat your EJ25 billet aluminum closed deck stage 4 blocks?
Do you offer or set up supercharging for the EJ25 also?
what gasket can be used for the iag stage 2 tuff ?
All of them
Which block should I go with if I plan on going around 500 whp... daily and sometimes racing it? And is it any problems going in the 03 wrx?
If you plan to use the 2.0 heads I'd go with the Stage 2.5 International Hybrid Block. It has specially designed pistons to work with your 2.0 heads. Give us a call and we can get you everything you need.
I have assembly Line production skills , any job openings? Willing to relocate 😃
i just dont get it, running at 210kw 574.5nm i done the ring lands, apparently oem is only good for 200kw max, fair o. so after the rebuild with forged pistons (rings etc) 14mm ARP head bolts and aftermarket ECU im guessing 230kw maybe 250kw at the wheels i lifted a head with 14mm studs, we are talking 800hp with 14mm studs? how do i even get to 500hp at the fly without 14mm studs, we are talking 500hp on a pretty much standard block (with pistons) whats the secret? edit: 2009 wrx hatch with 257 short block, obviously modified, most bolts-ons short of type of fuel used done, tho still using topmount aftermarket
I have a sti 09 hatchback that needs new motor, what stage would you recommend if i want to use it as a daily but also want it to be fun, I'd like something between 390 and 500 HP? Thank you in advance
We would recommend a stage 2.5 or higher.
At what power level are the stock sti heads gonna need built
how many work hours does it take for a short block to be replaced with a fa build?
@IAG Performance is there max boost/PSI tolerances for these motors? Ideally looking for 25-30 PSI but not more than 500whp. By HP rating alone stage 2 tuff would work, but would the stage 2.5 be recommended because it's a closed block?
We would recommend the stage 2.5
Stage 1 block for an off-roading FXT?
Can we buy parts from yu guys in dylan based in south Africa
Yes! Please email our sales team at sales@iagperformance.com and they can get your order all set up!
Witch IAG block is right for u?? Any of them if they was cheaper lol...sorry guys but way too expensive with import charges
Need to make a block that can hold 1,500 whp lol. That'll be nice to see a EJ25 with 1,500 whp.
Okay so probably a dumb question or just not financially smart choice but can you run the series x for a daily???
Yes, you can run any of our stage blocks for daily driving.
In regards to the ej20 magnum, would ej20g (1998 wrx) heads be fine to use, or would you recommend 205/207 heads? Not sure what power I want to make yet, but probably around 450-500bhp.
Ej20g heads would work but 205 or 207 would be better flowing.
how long do you think these motors will last? weekend warrior road racing and daily driving etc...
How you maintain it and how it is tuned will determine the life of it. We just had a car with block #189 come back into the shop for an E85 upgrade. It is still running strong!
@@theiagchannel where do I find the block
Number. Maybe you can give me a bit if it’s history. I bought it from a good friend complete turnkey. Been running E85 since I got it. Only one tank of pump gas. It’s a beast. Feels like it will almost do wheelies when on boost.
Stage 4 1000+ block. Stage 5 head.
@@theiagchannel I have block number 04201
What if I window the billet block. Can it be fixed.
If you manage to window that billet block you’ve probably got bigger problems 😂
@@mugenmrx5 haha yeah I guess so but usually when you window it wasn’t block failure but rod or piston failure
