Hello surprised I saw no comments here. According to the Yamaha exploded views there is an Oring that goes under the lowest bolt head. This is because if you look at the threaded hole, it leaks oil through. Maybe my 07 XVS1100 custom is a bit different?
Interesting! I don't recall such an o-ring under the lowest bolt head. The oil filter cover is already sealed by the two big o-rings. I've never seen a third o-ring, nor have I head any leaks since 2014, doing an oil change every 1 to 2 years.

I believe that if you take that plate that says Yamaha off first, you could be able to get the headers off without loosening the floorboard. Also, I wouldn't put the mufflers and so on back before filling the oil. In case of leaking you would just have to take them off once again. :) Best regards from Sweden. Drive safe..
Do the three small screws on the "cap" have to come off? It really doesn't look like the cap DOES anything other than "hold ITSELF on"....and provide a handy place to print the name YAMAHA. i.e. Would the bigger casing not some off if you didn't even undo the cap?
Michael Scott Yes, you're right! I didn't realize it at the time but you don't have to undo the small plate with the 3 screws. Just remove the bigger one and the whole thing will come off.
The license plate holder I made that myself so it's custom made. I didn't add any exhaust cover other than the heatband. You can get that in a motorcycle accessory shop or amazon.
Got the same bike, only black. I can see it was bobberbuild: did you do this yourself? Looks like stuff from bluecollarbobbers in Utah, I imported it to the Netherlands: looks great and easy to assemble. Bit scary to put a saw on the chassis though 😳 Great bike man, thanks for the movie too: will change oil + filter now!
When you screwed on the oil cap I noticed it had measurements on it , can you tell me if that is instead of looking through the oil window , which is so hard to see , and what is it called and where can I buy one please

Thank you! I've seen these conversion kits but I prefer the clean look of how it's set up stock. Besides I don't ride it that often so oil change is due every two years - that's acceptable.
Because the Yamaha service manual says 10w40. On a general note, recommended oil viscosities always vary depending on the type of climate the vehicle is used in. Usually, the manuals state several types of viscosities, depending on where in the world the vehicle is used. 20w50 is an extremely thick oil and would only be used in very hot areas.
I'm very thankful that my V-Star 1100 came with an oil relocation kit all ready installed
It certainly gets your oil change done in a fraction of the time.

D O'C Hi, it's an aftermarket oil cap with a temperature gauge, not and oil level gauge.
