Working with Sean and the John Wesley gang was one of the highlights of my time in front of the console, I’ll never forget his amazing talents. RIP Sean.

Huge loss for me. I never met him although I’ve seen him live back on the original tour for Cynic back in the 90’s, I feel like I lost a friend. I dearly love all of his work. His playing has an emotional heft that can only come from someone with the “gift”. Sure, we can all learn to play with pure hard work but there is a more select few that has the natural ability to move mountains. This man had that in spades. I can only assume he was a better person than a bass player which would make my loss to those close to him seem minuscule. Much love and healing to his family, friends and fans. Allan Holdsworth and Eddie Van Halen now have an awesome rhythm section with both Seans (Malone and Reinert) to jam with while the rest of us remember how much 2020 sucked...

I feel identically as you do. Though my biggest grief is never seeing Cynic live (i only started listening around 2009 just after they visited Serbia). I've become an instant Malone fan, and i had an opportunity to chat with him on the Cynic forum. He is everything you said he is. A wonderful person and unfathomably talented bass player.

That short bass solo from Rivers Dancing was the most beautiful music solo i've ever heard, Sean's massive fan ever since. RIP

hes not dead, he just left his body behind for the next plane of existence

that is called being dead. As a matter of fact, most of his time signatures were never of this plane of existence anyways and always transcendental.

помню, как в середине 90-х в первый раз услышал cynic 1993... я просто был в восторге от игры басиста! постоянно переслушивал этот альбом на кассете. очень жаль, что ушёл этот человек... он Мастер!

Back in the 90's, while in college, I, like other people in this thread, emailed Sean Malone, thinking I'd never hear back from him. I don't remember what I wrote, but I'm sure it was a lousy attempt at avoiding being starstruck. I know I mentioned some influences, which at the time included the band Marillion. His response is forever etched onto my brain: "Funny you should mention Marillion, as I played with Mark Kelly, last summer in Paris".
Never met him in person, but I feel as if I lost a family member. Along with his incredible musicianship, I came to appreciate his unassuming character, and his intelligence and eloquence through few words, which always took a backseat to the music.
Every note I play on my bass nowadays, somehow involves a thought about Sean Malone.

I had the honor to see him on tour with John Wesley playing bass on his solo album in New Jersey and New York. I never heard of him till that day many years ago but I was a fan immediately We discussed bass after his set. He even took the time to break down his set up with me. I was so honored to see him play the Chapman stick and than I became a huge fan after that meeting and still am. The music world lost a true artist. He was one of my favorite bass players up there with Tony Levin and Nick Beggs. My two other bass masters. Rest in Peace Sean and thank you for the inspiration and gifts of music you gave to the world.

    A fantastic musican.
From his work with cynic and gordian knot or his solo record, i can tell, he was a creative and talented musican. You can hear in every line, how much he loved jaco.
