That Kiloton 5 is definitely a bass I would buy. It is pretty much a passive Music Man Sterling with that G&L look. I would want one sunburst with a maple fingerboard, just like in the video.
Sounds awesome! What do you prefer, a M2500, L2500, or the Kiloton 5? I am starting to browse for a new bass. The value of a G&L blows away Fender and MusicMan, and so much less than a Roscoe!
Well they do both, that's what's odd. Early on, they had 4+1 with basses like the L5505, then they did 3+2 for the L2500, L1505, L1005, M2500, MJ5, etc. But it looks like both the Kiloton 5 and the JB5 and maybe some others use an updated 4+1 setup.
I don't think it has anything to do with the bass being active or passive. I have a '97 L2500, the first year it was ever released, and it has a 4+1 headstock, as well as a larger, heavier body (bass weighs about 10.5 or 11 lbs). Mine was built in the 3rd quarter of '96, one of the first out of the factory. Later '97/'98 models went with 3+2 headstock and smaller, lighter body. I feel that people loved the 4+1 headstock, so they went back to it. I want a Kiloton 5 AND a JB5 to round out the collection...
Just got a Kiloton 5 Fretless and I'm blown away by the playability and tone out of this bass. The quality is amazing, but that pickup started clipping my Mesa D800+ - lol! Loving it and it's my first G & L. Maybe another next year in a Jazz bass flavor. ;)
You hear the Stingray, you'll feel this!! Stingrays, even the newly designed specials have the trebly sheen. The kilos and L series have beastly mid-range and a crispy top end (not sheen). I've owned 4 musicmans in the past including the Bongo and Big Al, all I have now are G&Ls.
The passive Stingray I always wanted, that EBMM and their fanboys insist isn't possible without an active preamp. LOL poor saps just didn't follow Leo quite long enough.
There was a passive version of the old USA SUB basses (made from 2003-2006), which is basically passive Stingray. The active version was a 2 band active Stingray. Kiloton doesn't sound like a Stingray.
Yeah thanks nobody asked. Already knew about old SUBs and would own one if A) they weren’t painted in what feels like truck bed liner and B) the passive ones weren’t rare as hen’s teeth anymore. Not to mention the average weight of those things. EBMM has never seemed to want to admit that the Stingray tone can be had without the preamp to most players’ satisfaction, and your assessment just sounds like more of that to me. Sounds plenty like a stingray if you aren’t listening with your eyes/an EBMM fanboy. LOL
Evan Herb I’m not an EBMM fanboy, Stingrays and Precisions just happen to be my favorite basses. I even put Nordstrand MM4.2 pup in mine as it sounds closer to pre-eb ray. EBMM fanboys would smirk at that. Anyways, I guess I had to add that it doesn’t sound like a ray “to me”, but if it’s ray enough for ya, cool.
Do you have bought of them(kiloton and stingray)? Heve you used them on live gigs, or studio session? No? Or you just think you know stuff of the internet, especialy what you hear on youtube?
Well, Leo designed both so, thanks for being obvious. This guitar is superior and the price is better at G&L. And, this sounds better, looks better, and you'd have money in your pocket compared to a Stingray 5!...
Please good sir, can you point me in the direction of these supposed passive stingray 5(s) which the kilotons are totally knocking off? Asking for a friend, thanks.
I'm on a mission to watch all these Steve Araujo G&L bass videos
This absolutely blows me away! This sounds like, especially in parallel and tone at 100, almost exactly like a late 70's Stingray. Holy crap!
Ridiculously stout!!!! Just how I like my low B and women...
Wow, this thing sounds unreasonably good
Beautiful Bass! Great review. Thank you!

Wow that thing growls! Just awesome looking.

What did you end up getting?
Wow, G&L decided to go back to the 4+1 headstock for their 5 string basses?
I find it logical due to the headstock design to not have 3+2
Well they do both, that's what's odd. Early on, they had 4+1 with basses like the L5505, then they did 3+2 for the L2500, L1505, L1005, M2500, MJ5, etc. But it looks like both the Kiloton 5 and the JB5 and maybe some others use an updated 4+1 setup.
Now that I'm thinking about it more, it seems that all the active 5-strings are 3+2 while all the passive ones are 4+1.

Just the kiloton 5 and JB5. L and M 2500s are 3x2. They should do a six string L and M!!
Looks awesome. They just came out with Kiloton Tributes for under I think in of getting one .

I closes my eyes and i heard Stingray.

This sounds better than a Stingray to me. Stingrays just sound so obtrusive.
@@SpongeBath_ShitPants agreed. This B string is definitely more powerful as well, in my opinion. Still like my ray though
Is it the MFD from the L or the M series?
I would assume the L. M series are underwound but then boosted from the 18v preamp. This is passive so would guess it's a regular L series MFD
Wonder how heavy this thing is..
woolly mammoth!

what sound difference vs a Musicman Sting ray ? pick up position ...?
Thanks
Anything with a MM style p/u sounds like a MM.
Мутный звук
It's a Stingray 5 knockoff...

Who knew Leo Fender could knock off his own designs?
