They all sound good! To me each had a slight different variation between width of cymbal crashes and tone of guitars (Treble). Bass sounded good overall on all three. Great comparison, usually other channels on You tube only "talk" about the differences when doing a comparison and really hard to understand this method when you need to hear these differences to really understand.
Thank you so much - the listening part is exactly why I started doing them. Seems to me you are best placed to make the decision on which is best, not me! :)
The Australian albert is nice but the ultimate version is the original US 1st pressing mastered by Robert Ludwig. It's straight from the master tape and one of the best sounding LPs ever!
I disagree Stuart - I actually had 6 copies this time, including a clean RL US 1st, and I decided to make a short punchy video on just a few copies. The US RL is good, but in a very different way to the OG Aussie and as is common with US mastered LP’s, quite noticeably different to the original Australian 70’s/80’s sound that Aussies tend to be familiar with. There is nothing wrong with liking the ‘US mastered sound’, nothing at all. But it is different, and in my opinion, not better than what I’ve been listening to for 40 years on an OG copy. But that’s just me. 🤟🏼
I agree on the original US pressing. Now this isn’t conjecture on my part I had the 2003 remaster, i hunted and acquired both of original pressings from US(Atlantic) and OZ(Albert). First off all three are good recordings. I did my listening on a set of Falcon LS3/5A Gold Badge speakers, and three headphones. Final D8000 Pros, Grado GS3000, and Abyss Diana TC with the new modified pads. The turntable is a MoFi Ultadeck with an Ultra cartridge. I use a Puffin DSP/phono pre into an Enleum AMP R-23 which I use for both speakers and headphones. The 1980 US pressing is more of everything highs, mods, base the dead space is blacker. It’s crisper separation is better decay of strings drums and cymbals is noticeably better. Remember I’m talking about an AC/DC recording. This is one of my all time favorite records, but the boys were not know for the quality of their recordings. This one is as good as it gets! If you love Back in Black and are into vinyl you owe it to yourself to track down a good condition US first pressing, if you can’t find one go to the land down under. You’ll just need to turn it up a bit this was mastered before the loudness wars.
As soon as Shoot To Thrill started, I knew #2 was the OG press. I dont have the Alberts press, but I have an OG RL Atlantic USA copy and an OG Canadian press as well that sounds nearly the same. Both are grey Atlantic labels. The Canadian press has a different feel to it, cant put my finger on it but are relatively close to the Alberts. When I hear Brian and the drums higher in the mix with more treble I know its the remasters.
3 every single track. 3 clean as a whistle!! Well it sounds most like what ive been playing for the last 40 years, but im old now and could be going a bit deaf lol.
Hi John, mate I LOVE your A/B videos !! At the start it was a toss up between 1 and 3, then as we progressed in heard more clarity in the top end (cymbals) from 3 which won me over. So..when do we get the reveal? Also...I found you on Discogs and added you as a friend 😊. Please don't forget Purple Rain. Cheers from Sunny QLD, Steve 😎
Hey Steve - jealous of that northern weather! The reveal is next weekend - wanted to give as many people as possible the chance to have a real, objective, blind test first. So it'll be a separate new video, next Sunday. 🤓
Interesting tim - some swear by the US 1st RL double mastering. But do the US mastered Aussie albums really sound better than the Oz originals? Great question! 🤗
Interesting call - for me the 2009 is too bright, and very tiring on the ears. You can hear it through great headphones here on YT, and in person, when you listen to a complete song, it's actually pretty fatiguing. But it really depends on what you listen to it through, and what you might have at home. On my system currently, with a quite revealing MC cart, #3 doesn't get played.
@@joncandyfliprecords well I have 1974 Sansui amplifier and speakers of similar years, so I love that “bright” sound. All old music on my system sounds similar or doesn’t sound at all….
Probably number 3. I'm guessing you played them in the order you mentioned at the start.....Aussie, 2009, 2003? Couldn't really split the first two and occasionally the third sounded better than them but overall, not as much difference between them as I was expecting. I have the 2003 George Marino remaster and quite like it but I haven't heard the others first hand.
Hey Steve - you'll have to wait until next weekend for the answers, but even if you were way off, I wouldn't blame you. One of the real challeneges with covering AC/DC materials is getting it through the YT censors - using any more than 4-5 secs of a song gets you necked at the starting line. 😒 So I forgive anyone not getting it 'right' in this case. But the many small clips I used of just 3 albums, are the best I can do with those kind of restrictions.

Okay when did AC/DC ever become on Columbia records I thought they were on Atlantic records lol I've never seen that particular version of back in black actually to me record three sounds better than 1 and 2
The great challenge with RUclips copyright is that if you play more than 5 seconds, the entire video gets taken down, a copyright strike is allocated, and if you get 3 of them total, your entire channel is removed from the platform. So I won't be changing the format I'm afraid! :)
I have the OG Alberts copy, that copy is amazing, sounds very crisp and clear.
Yes I agree. 🏆
Where do you get one of those?
@Big A It's an Aussie press, so here of course. 😋
but I see them on Discogs from both US and UK collectors, from time to time.

Thanks for the comment! Sounds like you've got a good ear for music, even after all these years.
Big fan of #3 for sure. Seemed more natural and 3D and less modern/pumped. A bit like UK first prints tend to sound compared to US prints.
Check in here next weekend Giulio and we'll see where you landed. 🤫
3. I have a first pressing on Atlantic and sounds great on my system.
Very nice!

2 sounds too muddy....between 1 and 3, I think 3 wins out on vocal clarity.
Thanks for the reply!
#3 sounds “clearer” and “louder”. One thing I hated abt my US 1st press is how dull it sounded. The guitars were quiet and it just didn’t rock
Interesting tim - some swear by the US 1st RL double mastering. But do the US mastered Aussie albums really sound better than the Oz originals? Great question! 🤗
Prefered #2 overall. #1 sounds a touch bright and #3 has some weird midrange EQ going on.
Nice one Doug!
Check the video next weekend to see what you're old ears are like.. 😇
Agreed on all points, Doug.
First: #2
Second: #1
Third: #3
Come back next weekend to hear your results 😎
#3 ist best, #1 is ok and #2 gets last position for me.
Answer coming up this weekend for you . 🤗
3, 1, 2
OK - there's a surprise. 3 on may audiophile forums, is talked down a lot. 🤟
Absolutely the best is 3!

Is the second record the Australian Original pressing😊
Check the follow up video Colin 😊
Number 3 seems to me a little bit more open sound, somehow more "treble" register.
Yessir.

3,2,1,
But I'll stick with my first press US original
Had it for forty three years, nothing comes close

😂 Fair enough mate.
First Place #3
Close Second #1
Third Place #2
Next weekend I'll reveal all in a new video Adam - and I'll explain why I like one over the other. 🤓

Check out Part 2 of the video (also on my Channel) and you'll see them all revealed and explained. 👍
2, by a mile. Much more open sound. The others sound a little boxed in (particularly 1 - muddy, too much bass)
Appreciate your thoughts!
No UK Atlantic first press Iv'e got one that I bought on the day of release that sounds just as good if not better than those!! 😉😎
Good to know!

But it's a worldwide problem for creators, that no record company seems to care about.

Excellent.
@@joncandyfliprecords Hi, have you ever listened to a Japan 1st press? How would you rate it in comparison to the OZ one? Thanks 🙏
