      michael jordan is highest paid athlete despite it has 3billion fans today, baskteball was just 800 million when he was paid 33 million dollars in 1990's
      that accounts to 128 million dollars today inflation adjusted (for year)
      and at that time sports weren't paid this much.
      you know why?
      no because of sports being famous.
      i bet if you are from europe you only have heard of mj. no one else. basketball=mj
      not because of sports being famous but because of his brand
      ronaldo and messi are the goats of soccer

    • @nicklubrino2606
      @nicklubrino2606 22 дня назад

      In any era, the highest paid athlete has always been a boxer. The richest athlete of all time, because of endorsements, is Michael Jordan. In the 1921, Jack Dempsey made $300,000 for a fight while the highest paid baseball player Babe Ruth made $10,000 with a signing bonus of around $10,000. At the time, there was no NFL football and NBA basketball. In 1975, Ali and Foreman made $5 million each in their fight. I googled it and the highest paid NBA player in 1976 was Bill Bradley with $325,000, highest in MLB was Hank Aaron at $240,000 (but I read that Reggie Jackson signed a 5-year contract in 1976 valued at $3 Million which was probably end-loaded). The NFL was not the financial juggernaut that it is today, but the highest paid in 1976 might’ve been O.J. Simpson at $733,000. Jack Nicklaus was the highest earner in the PGA at $266,000.
      Muhummad Ali was huge around that time, so I’m guessing that he must’ve been the highest paid in 1976, as he made $11 Million combined for the Thrilla in Manila and the Rumble in the Jungle in the two previous years.
      In the 1980s, was a Jeopardy question: “which sport had the top 4 richest athletes?” One contestant answered “football”. Nope, another answered baseball. Nope, it wasn’t basketball either. It was boxing. The top 4 boxers were making tens of millions of dollars and athletes of other sports couldn’t compare. Just a few years ago Mayweather made $300 million and Pacquiao made $200 million for 1 night’s work, the money came from PPV buys which sold 4.6 million PPVs at $100 a pop and tv broadcast rights from around the world.
