Assassin was one of my favorites in this game, actually. I just like how he blends kicks and sword strikes, and he's a lot less clunky than Yun Seong, and like you said, cancels and mixups galore. Plus, I personally like how he looks, and how he has like 6 costumes. He's got some capable defensive moves as well, and a useful unblockable when it's needed. Very well-rounded and nasty fighter in the right hands.
god i remember wrecking with this guy at family parties.... i remember spending hours and hours in training mode finding all his moves by trial and error. didn't use the internet back than... good times.
bKG into 11K is a fabulous mixup. And he has the most damaging back throw in the game iirc. Plus, you're crazy if you think 11A is too slow to use. I always found it hit way more than you'd expect it to back in the day.

66A+B is a good instant-sidestep counter attack. Gets you in close while dodging verticals. Relatively fast too.
