Our short film for the 2019 Philadelphia 48 Hour Film Project: Out Of My League. This is the slightly extended director's cut. The cut we wanted to submit, but couldn't since we had to shave almost a minute off the runtime to be eligible for the competition.
Out Of My League follows Hannah, who enlists the help of her disgraced ex-Pool champion Uncle, to help her win her pool enthusiast ex-boyfriend back.

My god the mailbox is in the car and then gets mentioned later on- a brick joke with A MAILBOX thats the kind of detail you notice on 2nd viewing, exceptional level of thought in this

Alright all I have to say is Lauren LaVera is freaking amazing! She is beautiful, talented, and she can literally play any role. I've seen her in several different roles where she was screaming and running for her life from a maniacal killer clown, putting herself in the position of showing that she was scared for her life, vulnerable, and about to be tortured by a sadistic killer but she was sly enough to turn the tables on him, and now this cute, quirky, & humorous short about her wanting to win back her ex-bf. She went from feeling insecure and heartbroken because she lost her ex-bf to then gaining confidence and listening to the pep talks from her funny ass uncle. In the end she takes her glasses off, lets her hair down, and beats her ex-boyfriend at pool and turns the tables on him and says, "I think I'm the one out of your league now, lol." I loved that line; it was the best part of the film! I really hope to see many more projects from Laura because she is one hell of an actress. It comes so natural to her that when you are watching her on screen, it doesn't even look like she is acting because she is so natural and clearly knows what she's doing as an actress. This film was so funny, and I absolutely loved this. I'm so glad you got the admiration for the amazing work you do (the entire cast and crew), CONGRATULATIONS!

What a great short! That quality! The acting was good! The uncle definitely nailed the acting. Haha. Love the custom magz though. Lmao! Balls Magazine. Lmao. The innuendo on this was to hilarious! Kinda felt like American Pie almost. The uncle kinda looked like one of the actors from AP. Haha.

My favorite part was her removal of the glasses going from plain Jane to Jane with makeup! I loved the message at the end. She was STILL the same person in the end, which was too good for him!!

When he said "half this game is 90% mental" reminded me of "60% of the time work every time" for some reason hahaha. Great acting by the crew... (uncle) Andrew living in his car was a nice little touch considering he's an ex pool champ. I was thinking about Uncle Rico there. Anyways, great editing work and I enjoyed the storyline. I kind of seen it coming when she told him that he was out of her league! 👏👊👏

Bravo. Plot twist at the end. The whole time I was like where is the out of league coming in at and then after the pool game it all came together. Excellent 48 hr short film once again. I think your production teams is at its best in these short notice films to be made. Great job and good luck 👍

Yes you could! They did a really good job and I'm sure they were prepared. You can have ideas before you get your elements. I've done it 5 years in Nashville's 48hr competition. This keeps you on your toes as a filmmaker. Ultimately I think it makes you better than hollywood filmmakers because you don't count on budget and other limitations that drive them crazy! lol Great film!

Thanks a lot for the kind words man! Glad you enjoyed it. We did shoot on the pocket 4k, but we only shot in 1080 to cut back on render/upload times since every minute is potentially a minute wasted.

Fun fact: I once as a kid won against a very good adult pool player. He started putting each ball in one by one including the black with the white by error at the end. 😁
Very nice work! I liked the story. Very simple and predictable but the humor made it great. The editing was well done. I felt it flowed and the cutting during the pool game was a good way to speed it up. The grading is excellent. The audio could use some fixing up but in 48 hours its pretty goddamn impressive
