"...they exited out of Formula One... they exited out of the IRL... they exited out of CART... they exited out of the World of Outlaws... and there's a reason for that, because Goodyear can't build a tire that's worth a crap..." this race proved Smoke was right...

In my mind Smoke was often right, especially about the big things. I know his emotions get the better of him sometimes but he's still someone I miss.
When it came to certain IRL politics and certain Nascar politics, (im not touching his sprint car stuff. I don't know enough about running sprint cars and sadly haven't really even watched since 1998!)
But in IRL/NASCAR, He was too right for some and that got him under more pressure from the press and scrutiny from whatever sanctioning body he was racing under.
Im sure he wouldn't have it any other way!
My long way of saying, yes you are so right!
      Hope you're good.

Also Tony George’s power in all of auto racing. He was the IMS president of the track for almost 20 years here. This race also helped bankroll the IRL for the first years from 1996-2008 but the next year ticket sales went down almost 50% percent due to the tire issues and the COT problems that turned off many long time fans. The Hulman-George family almost went bankrupt because of this and the IRL money problems. F1 USGP helped them to but same thing a tire problem made that race go the hell and they left 2 years later

@@zachschneider6877 Well, Zach, when it comes to the road course being used at Indianapolis, I'm still against that decision because I understand that ever since the 2008 Brickyard 400, it hasn't been the same and I seriously doubt the road course will help it be better. Also, if it was up to me for the schedule the last three years, I would have the Brickyard 400 take place after the Coke Zero 400 instead of making it the regular-season finale from 2018-2019 as well as replacing the Coke Zero 400 on 4th of July weekend. Also, Zach, when it comes to the Xfinity series racing at the Brickyard. even though there's a part of me that didn't have a problem with it, I did not like the decision of the series using the road course and if was up to me, I would have them return to Lucas Oil Raceway this year along with the truck series since Eldora didn't renew their contract. All-in-all, in the end, Zach, let me hear what you have to say on this!

Problem you have is that Indianapolis race fans are some of the most loyal you will find, but when they turn on something they will NOT come back... For awhile at least.
Remember 2008 is only 3 years (still fresh) after the Formula 1 "Tyre Gate" race and was the same year as Open Wheel Reunification...
I completely agree with you, I never want to see this race go away... "The World's Greatest Race Course" should welcome in "The World's Greatest Racers" from IndyCar, F1, NASCAR, and maybe even a sports car return.
The place is special, and any chance they open the gates at that place is like God calling you home.

I think have 2 manufacturers is like that is never good for the competition. Indy fans are some of the loyal fans yes. But I think just from the NASCAR side atleast, Indy, Pocono, Michigan, Auto Club, have really gotten bad rep over not being able to pass, and that the racing isnt "good". I think the cars lacking so much horsepower right now hurt theses tracks. I'm Gordon fan and let tell you his win here 2014 is ranked 2nd for me only to his final win and all I'm saying is I'm die hard fan of this track and I just hate to see the rep it gets on the Nascar side at times.

While Michelin did not have any compound that could last more than 10 laps (Yes EVEN with THE hardest compounds available), but the bigger issue is that the Michelin race tires were defective and prone to failure no matter how hard the compound is and how they were made, had those F1 cars raced on Michelin tires in 2005 somebody could've gotten hurt or worse killed and by somebody it could've been a driver, a track worker, or even way worse a spectator. Even though the Goodyear tires were the root of the issue, NASCAR also messed up by calling competition cautions every 10-12 laps. They should've put trust in the drivers to back the pace down and in the crew chiefs to call their drivers whenever needed, which would've allowed the race to play out naturally, possibly even with a surprise winner or interesting strategy/battles. If anyone notices, half the cautions weren't for tire blowouts or errors, it was for competition cautions that NASCAR threw.

If tires were invincible teams would run 1psi, and nascar cant regulate tire pressure. That puts goodyear in a box, because no matter what they do, teams will always push tires past their limit until they blow.
