Radio shack use to sell a fiber glass pen,for removing ,crap from a leaked battery, works well I have one for years plus mine came with a refill.never thought of using it on a circuit board, make sense ,I like the brass too ,where did you buy them.
+Ron Thompson I'm not sure where Brian got them - possibly Ali express, but I found a link on Amazon in the description. I think there are a fair selection there.
HeHe your very welcome Dr A, there is a nylon pen too which is even finer than the fibreglass but couldn't find it, the fibreglass one is amazing at cleaning edge connectors up, and cleaning old solder pads ready for use. They also sell refills so you dont need to buy new pens, but then at the price they were its hardly expensive.
Brian Jones These are going to change how I operate! Thanks so much. The refills look convenient, but as you say, them pens themselves are very affordable. I guess if you were in a production environment you would go through them quickly
I haven't had my new set long, the fibreglass one is rotten already, but you can soak in IPA to clean them, I have been using my dremel with a brass brush before but that's a bit aggresive but controlled.
EBay offer same set ,plus one other ,they make four different ones,I have a fiber glass one,but I like your video ,I ordered a set like yours, they also sell replacent tips if you need them y radio shack one came with extra tip,but I could have used your idea years ago for fixing board where the foil was bad.
those look pretty neat for small jobs, probably not great for removing 4x 8 inch by 1 inch strips of rotten foam holding a big rf alumininium shield on an atari 800 cartridge bay, i ended using a 4 inch wire brush (which did the job in about 30 seconds)
of course, just scrubbed then washed away, reattached with a couple of 3m sticky foam strips (one had to be chopped up and stacked 3 deep into the molding but stuck just fine. me using an angle grinder on my a800 would have been like you using a bandsaw to remove an old plaster from your childs neck, not something to even be suggested about a dearly loved family member. ;)
+ImpaledGryphon haha, depends on how steady you are with the grinder I suppose 😂 I never had an 8 bit Atari computer. I might look for one next car boot season.
Still, by far not as precise a knife (or I rather prefer a scalpel). I mean if you have several tiny lanes right next to each other and remove the varnish from all of them with these pens, you aren't doing yourself any favour. I wonder if it would work to cover next-by tracks with maybe electrical tape, simple tape film or masking tape and then use the fibre glass pen without damaging the tape.
Glas is hard as F$$k but the active surface is minimal. Only the tip. I find this thinks good and would buy the Brass one. Becouse Contamination of the Surface. Professional I think the glas one is better.. And privare faster is Better, so take Steel...
Very nice gift from @povvercrazy -- he's been exceedingly generous to many of us lately. I will definitely pick up some of these PCB scraper brushes..

Is the PCB Green layer a Protection layer what if its a little bit scratch won't go farther than the Large area Been scratch ..some sort ..🎉..?.
It's basically a varnish. I guess it's too protect the board and stop the copper from corrosion

+ImpaledGryphon Nothing an angle grinder couldn't sort out 😀
not sure i should even speak to you anymore. :(
hehe. I take it that it all worked out in the end? :)
