I saw him back in 98. I was only 19 but I was raised on his music. I learned that he was performing at the theater a few blocks away from the homeless shelter that I was staying at. I had to to see him. 3 years later he left us. I am very grateful that I got to see him. I own 300+ phonograph records, mostly from my childhood.
John, played for me twice in Guerneville CA (81-82). Despite his fear of flying, he flew in from a gig back east the morning of the show and we helicoptered him in 100 miles from SFO.. No finer gentleman than John H and the greatest opening act for a music festival imaginable. John and my daughter, Sharon, shared the same disease. It got 'em both.
Art Stamper, my father sang this song to me after I left my record in the backseat during one of his concerts. This song just popped into my head because yesterday I just found my father‘s first album that he cut at age 16 with the Stanley Brothers. I guess I better go get that out of my backseat before it gets hot.
I wore out most of my John Hartford vinyl, especially Mark Twang. I thought of him recently when we crossed the Cumberland river near Nashville. Somewhere he's slumberin on the Cumberland I'm sure
John eked out part of his living selling phonograph records way back when (one of the Johnny85er interviews) -- when I hear him talk about that I wondered just what records he left in the sun. Can't you just see them on the back window ledge cars had then?
This was great This was great This was great This was great This was great This was great
😂😂😂 😂😂😂 😂😂😂 😂😂😂
John was great!!!!
I happy I had the opportunity to hug this man after a small venue concert before he died too young. His music brought so much joy to my life.

This song gets stuck in my head from time to time, and it's really hard to evict.

In 50 years of concert going one of the all time best was John Hartford.

First sang along to this song in summer camp in about 1977 up in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota.
I was there that night. God I miss John Hartford's brilliance.

Beatbox with a Banjo - Thankyou Indiana!
I have always loved this song. We DID have records that warped and stuck.
Will Always Remember! Even more amazing that I ever fixed it at all! Wax And Vinyl Forever! 📻
Oh sweet John, yes I still have this record.
how I miss this guy !!!!!!!!!!so much !!!!!!!!!!!
I heard this on Dr. Demento years ago. Love it... being a Vinyl Collector myself...
I saw him in Spokane, Washington sometime in the 80's. He was a wonderful entertainer. So sad that he died so young.
First heard this on Dr Demento in 1986. It REALLY applies in Phoenix - for CDs, Cassettes, mp3 players, etc.
Me too :)
I remember this when it came out and sing it once in a while in the car
I LOVE it. I remember my Uncle Bill playing these albums for us when I was a kid. GREAT memories.
A true master of the bango
This is brilliant. Also true...as anyone who's left a record in the sun can testify. :-D
Super Trooper - always remember 💙😂❤

The best
This was the year John brought Tommy Smothers along to perform yo-yo tricks. They sang Hey Babe, ya wanna yo-yo?
One of my favorite tunes!
This was a dr. Demento standard!
VERY nice, I have seen the 88 footage (as you know) thanks for sharing the 87!
contact me sometime, we'll trade again.
I think I left my heart in the sun...
... the first beatbox man? Have many his records in shade of my room ;-)
What's a phonograph record?
