Circenn is honestly one of the hardest factions to play as in the beginning due to the vast territory and basically all allies are worthless. Also bear in mind that different types of estates provide different loyalty/influence bonuses between individuals in your court and the King. If you hover your mouse over the 3 different estates available in the estate management tab it will tell you the different bonuses. Nobility estates are worthless for your king, agriculture estates are good for anyone and churche estates are good all around. Don’t just give away each estate as though they are equal, look at the differences between the estates, your court and your king and plan who gets what based off their influence/loyalty needs.
Look I haven’t played the game since the allegiance update came out. Been too busy with work and this version of total war is kind of boring to play, so I might have made a mistake on the specifics between the estates. I can remember there is a difference in bonuses between your king and the court. I forgot exactly which one it was that had almost no bonuses for the king but great for the court and vice-versa.
The religious ones don’t do anything for the faction leader. Noble estates are best for your faction leader due to to 2 influence. There are cost differences 100or 200 gold but I would never worry about that.
I grew up in Dun cailden (now called Dunkeld) which is tiny and currently has a population of like 2000, and have loved total war for about ten years it’s kinda mad seeing your tiny wee town in your fav game franchise.
A king's game, episode 1. Vikings had invaded. War was everywhere. The scots were split. This was an age of heroes, and one of those heroes was Aed II, a scottish king who ruled over Circenn. He was the most ambitious of folks, rivalling Justinian himself in this field. He wished to unite Scotland and bring his fatherland of Ireland under his rule and protection. "Are you sure about this?" asked his advisor. "quite sure," Aed replied. "honor requires it. Now, you, tell your king that Circenn stands by him." the messenger from Fortriu scampered off. Aed felt excitement bubbling up inside him. He may have been an older man, but he was new at this "monarch" business. what he was not new at, however, was war. Aed was third oldest in the royal family and was trained in the ways of war and not governance. He had been introduced to one of his father's armies at the age of nine and the troops quickly fell in love with his charming personality and endearing antics. They adopted him as their mascot and he became a lieutenant when he came of age. He was trained as a general and was not often seen without his friends in the ranks or his subordinates. and now he was at war for real. The battle of Dun Cailden was his first major conflict, but he surprisingly nailed the battle. His sword troops gained renown after this battle for their ferocity and the Athfochla began to grow worried. ten likes = another post next episode
Oh nice, a new campaign from Lionheart, lets try to keep up with the episodes this time. *blinks once* WTF Episode 30 already? How did I miss the other 29? Thats how its going to go for me once again.
Would highly recommend watching HforHavoc's Circenn Unit Roster Breakdown cause he give some good battle tactics. As I understand Circenn is the one of the few factions that have a spear square formation available and the ONLY major faction that has crossbows which leads to a more defensive play style. Love your work and am really looking forward to more of this series.
Missile infantry can snipe through the trees, hidden while firing. Also you should take the chance to annex fortriu while they bith have their army and all there settlements. As well doing that will end their war with Suþreyar
Very Nice to see an Circenn lets play. When you started your Gwined in bought the game and started with Circenn, it s a really tough start. If you have finished those 2 viking tribes it will become more easier! Remember that you will have the Norse and the danes in your terrotries in the end game. Looking forward to all of it! The enemies archers will always aim for your crossbows. Sometimes it might be worth it to pull them back, to draw their archers closer. Very nice start of a lets play!
I find the fact that alot of the Gaelic units dont have helmets kind of irritating. Maybe I'm indulging the historical pedant in me a little too readily, but the idea that someone in the period could afford a main shirt and sword but forgo a helmet doesnt make any sense at all
All I know is this: the armor you wear determines your status - if you can afford a full mail plate of armor, then you're likely a Knight or higher rank, otherwise its just normal clothes or perhaps leather armor for the peasantry fighters. As for helmets go - surely even a leather helm made from a boar would be sufficient?
To my knowledge your kings name should be said as one syllable, it’s an Irish name originally, gives the root to the name Aedan/Aidan. The two syllable way you say it- “ay-ed” is a good approximation phonetically but as far as I can work out it should be a single syllable. Should be more of an “aid” sound. That’s the best I can work it out, Gaelic vowels are a bit confusing for me, not my first language just learned it in school. Hope this helps, looking forward to the rest of the series!
its actually pronunced as the letter E, meaning fire. my name is Aedhán. , meaning "of fire" so Aedh= E then Aed-han= of fire. also am gaelic speaker . but good effort.
Putting your units in forests give them so much missile defense it's really worth trying to do in any battle with forests. Also your units regularly become hidden so enemy archers can't target them long enough to shoot sometimes.
early circenn always spawn a lone general in the north.. use him to distract/pillage/cause rebellions in orkneys settlements to keep them occupied and give your ally fortriu a chance to stay alive long enough for u to take out athflocha and then head north.. this always makes it almost certain that they wont wipe fortriu asap then head to your north..
Alba - pronounced Ah-la-buh Monadh - pronounced as Moan-adh. The combination of 'dh' is pronounced as an aspirated 'g'. Aileach - pronounced Al-och. Ch being an aspirated C. Like the word loch.
Probably very late on this considering the video date; the province of Scoan is actually said as "Scoon" and it's where the kings of alba used to be crowned.
The bird is a pheasant I think as in " I'm not a pheasant plucker I'm a pheasant plucker's son and I keep on Plucking pheasants till the pheasant pluckings done".. Do try
Another thing to think about if a character has loyalty problems but too high of influence is to utilize the character management tab and either pay the extortionist rate of decreasing [their] influence (almost always a negative consequence will occur like loss of loyalty) or pay to increase [their] loyalty (almost always you may have to pay more $$ or pay with personal king influence). But these options can be better if you don’t want to give away the estates. Also found it was better to spread the estates out equally among the court and king. (Heir’s to the throne are NOT considered the same as the king yet so they count as any other noble). Also if you are going to assassinate someone, make sure you humiliate the shit out of them first by stripping all titles and either killing their wife off or forcing a divorce. I found it makes the chances of a successful assassination higher if they are busy mourning their wife with no titles. The down side is if you fail to kill him the chances of a secession sky-rocket bc they HATE you.
The first thing I do as Circenn, is kill the rebels obviously, but then, I IMMEDIATELY march toward the Capital of Fortriu. I get military access from them by agreeing to join the war against Sudreyar. Make a second general around turn 3 at Ros Cuissine. Leave it at one stack to save money. Beef up your main army lead by Aed. after you get to like a 15 stack. Head into Fortriu territory towards Inber Nise. By this time Orkneyar and Sudreyar are having their way with the Fortriu forces, but they never have a full stack. If you can recapture a small town captured by them and win one large battle vs one of their larger stacks, you can run them out of Fortriu lands. While you are fighting them by Inber Nise, send your one stack second army and capture all of the small settlements of Orkenyar. They wont be able to split their focus, as they have a far weaker economy in the early game. After all of the small settlements have been taken, your second army needs to sit in Thursa and slowly start bringing it to 20 stacks. This entire time, you should be upgrading your food production structures when you have the funds and build just one level 1 Souterrain building in the Monadh region. You should then have enough Legitimacy and political sway to annex Fortriu. After you do that, your economy is stronger than Sudreyar and Orkneyar put together. Then its just a matter of time before they both fall to you. Be careful of Athfocla. As around turn 15-20 I have almost always had them randomly declare war on me. They are not that strong, but they can severely slow your growth if they catch you off guard.
Side-note: The army at Thursa needs to get to a 20 stack, because you will need them all to take the capital of Orkneyar. You can disband them after if you are hurting for money or food.
The kilt first appeared as the great kilt, the breacan or belted plaid, during the 16th century, and is Gaelic in origin. The filleadh mòr or great kilt was a full-length garment whose upper half could be worn as a cloak draped over the shoulder, or brought up over the head. A version of the filleadh beag (philibeg), or small kilt (also known as the walking kilt), similar to the modern kilt was invented by an English Quaker from Lancashire named Thomas Rawlinson some time in the 1720s. He felt that the belted plaid was "cumbrous and unwieldy", and his solution was to separate the skirt and convert it into a distinct garment with pleats already sewn, which he himself began wearing.[2] His associate, Iain MacDonnell, chief of the MacDonnells of Inverness, also began wearing it, and when the clansmen the two employed in logging, charcoal manufacture and iron smelting saw their chief wearing the new apparel, they soon followed suit. From there its use spread "in the shortest space" amongst the Highlanders, and even amongst some of the Northern Lowlanders.[3] It has been suggested there is evidence that the philibeg with unsewn pleats was worn from the 1690s
I find governors are best to keep loyal and without usurper traits, but the usurper penalty on generals isn't a problem, as they're not in the same province for very long anyway.

Annex fortriu on turn 2 and your good on the Ally on Ally problem and you double the size of your kingdom by turn 2.....the only bad thing is fortriu has a serious food problem that you inherite
I think you pronounced "Aed" correctly, It is Scottish Gaelic which is similar to Irish Gaelic, and if it had been the latter (Im more familiar with the latter) would be pronounced "Ay Ed" (without a space). If it had been Aedh it would have been pronounced "Ay Egg" without a space., Ay as in "hey" without "h".
I had problems with Circenn, could not keep money and food. Needed two armies to cover all the territory, which didn’t help but it did discourage enemies. Diplomacy is “fun,” and their armour 💩
Make the kingdom scotland, then either take or vassalize ireland, take the north of england (where i live so i expect a mighty conquest😂😂😂) then if you feel like it vassalize the south of england (you could also go for wales as you both had similar cultures and stuff like that at the time)..... and finally..... become...... THE KING IN THE NORTH!!!!!!!

How ware nobility estates bad? They give 2 influence per estate. Thats rather than the normal 1

Aed I, not II. There was no other King of Scotland by that name. Also, Ireland wasn't his fatherland - he was a Pict, not a Gael.

I have been waiting for a new campaign from you lionheartx10 - And here it is, doing my ancestors and thereby favorite faction!
"Do we get some of their armies as well?" *Clicks on Army* "Never"
Beware of backstabs from south, especially by Northleode. Also, Souterrain granaries are very nice giving +5 Legitimacy.

great new series !! - FYI Scone is pronounced Skoon
I was really looking for Northumbria, they're horribly misrepresented
Northumbria was done over by the Vikings and was reduced to the lands south of the Tweed.
Even in 900 AD the scots already adopted kilts.
