    Yasser seems very kind, but also very, very intense at times. I absolutely can imagine him being pushed over the edge and clocking Kasparov. You don't become #1 board for a chess power without being a ridiculously competitive person. Love the guy.

      Yup. I'm someone that does not keep it in at all. I have no patience, and I express anger at a very low threshold. Ironically, I have very good control when I'm angry and do not lay hands on anyone. It's probably because I don't bottle it up

      That's not how the rules work. As far as I know you can be given more time after the pieces are re-set, but accidentally knocking over the pieces is not considered cause in the rules for forfeiting a game.

      @@strategicsage7694 I'd argue he knew, or should have known, the possible consequences of hitting the clock so hard. He was responsible. There are accidents that occur even when everyone is behaving reasonably. Then there are accidents that result from negligence or misbehavior. At a minimum they should have adjusted Yasser's clock to make him whole.

      It's actually not. The opponent can be awarded more time when something like this happens, but accidentally knocking over pieces is not a resignation by rule.

      @@apocalypseap I'm not playing devil's advocate. I'm pointing out that it's not what the rules say. Sincerity/sorrow are a completely different issue and Kasparov definitely was not 'clean' in terms of competitive ethics imo, but you can still be sorry for something and at the same time not think it justifies losing the game. One doesn't follow the other.

      Kasparov was already beyond his threshold and who knows why? I am glad Yasser put him in his place. The game should have been a forfeit.

      At that tournament Kasparov literally had KGB agents watching him in case he messed up too badly. That is how chess was in those days.

      Pues el árbitro podría haber sancionado con : 1.amonestacion verbal 2.Dar tiempo a Seirawan en su reloj o también 3. Perder la partida por comportamiento inapropiado.Pero como en ajedrez la mayoría de árbitros mejor se hacen los que no vieron nada , entonces muchos jugadores se aprovechan de eso .Y a veces ni siquiera hay árbitros Viendo la partida.Y los jugadores afectados no saben reclamar . Saludos .

    I was no fan of Kasparov and never will be. He always make fun of people who plays sidelines and beat him. If the opponent plays the mainline of course he beats them because his strength lies there (with Russian gms all helping him). He played such a bad manners to disturb the opponents so he could win on the board. These days people would complain to arbiter who can verify it with the camera and take some disciplinary action towards them. In my view he is not a chess legend. Just a chess bully!
    Luckily we got some good World Champions who are humble (Anand, Magnus) loved by almost all the opponents. :)

    Never heard of Mr. Kasparov throwing such a temper tantrum (assuming the story as recounted is true). I would have thought that high level chess would have very strict enforcement against any such extreme behavior - it sounded wild. GK had to have been picking a fight for some reason. That it also had disturbing effects on players at adjacent boards is crazy. Maybe GK was drugged. Hard to believe that no physical altercations happened right then and there.

    3:32 My thought as well. As horrendous as Kasparov's behavior was, Yasser had a clear and immediate attempt at recourse that he chose not to use. That's on him.

    It's good to remember that back in his hayday, Kasparov got away with some extremely unsportsmanlike behaviour, just like when he cheated against Polgar. So anyone who accuses Magnus of being unprofessional in the Hans saga should find someone else as a shining example of everlasting perfect behaviour (hint: there are none).
