Presuppositionalism- a wonderful explanation indeed. The heart issue is critical...

"I'm a wanna be kingdom ruler." We know. This is all about control for you folks. It isn't about His Kingdom. It's about your Kingdom. He will not be mocked. You need to repent.

I'm pretty sure Eric Conn is as old as Dr. Michael Thiessen. Not really fair to characterize him as a "young buck" with a "new term". Patriarchy is the actual Biblical term, complementarianism is the more novel term.

Isn’t “complementarianism” the new term and “patriarchy” is a return to the historically held belief regarding men & women?
“The term "complementarianism" was first used by the founders of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood in 1988.” - Wikipedia

I came here from Spotify to comment this. Thanks for doing it for me. It blew my mind that he was first talking about Grudem and Piper inventing the term, and then said that Eric Conn has a new term. Bad take for sure. Also, I don’t know how old he is but Eric is 39, so not exactly a “young buck”.

@@dylangrubbs5969 Certainly we were not saying patriarchy is a NEW term... its a biblical word. But it does create an unnecessary rift in faithful reformed circles. Many pastors (like Michael, Joe and I) have been faithfully teaching biblical sexuality, headship and submission for years, when someone comes in saying one term (which has served well) is now insufficient is not necessary.

With respect, I don't think that this is quite right. The point of patriarchy is that God has designed men and women differently. Complimentarianism says they are equal, but do different things because God has commanded them to. Patriarchy says that God has fundamentally designed them differently. A woman cannot lead her family like a man and a man cannot nurture his family like a woman. The reason they have different roles is because they are inherently different. I actually think Dr. Thiessen has a much more patriarchal view. @@nathanaelwright4347

@@nathanaelwright4347 For the reasons Dr. Thiessen gives on this topic, it does seem like "complementarianism" is a term that could't really stand up to feminist egalitatianism. Therefore, it stands to reason we ought to REFORM back to the biblical terminology.

@@TryStone9897 I agree. I don’t believe the term complementarian has “served well” as Nathanael asserts. I think many supposed complementarians are just egalitarians with extra steps, that is to say, actually feminists. And the fruit of complementarianism has not been good. Many of its male proponents are still weak, neutered men who’s wives rule the home while they run around “servant leading” by doing everything she says.

Still listening, but the message was off a bit when you all got to patriarchy
