So the Sunday morning service is for Believers and any unbelievers present are merely onlookers? When does the preacher fulfill his commission to preach to the unconverted? This model is a denial of the gospel by ommission. Maybe a gospel believing church but not a gospel preaching church. A church that depends on its growth from christians converted else where. Probably attracted by a strong stance against our decadent culture. Form over substance missing the point that the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.

One extremely consistent lived philosophy demonstrated throughout scripture - and yet never taught or expounded - is that of an intense stoicism. This is strange because all previous generations of Christians demonstrated an often intensely stoic attitude. The irony of “Thinking Christian” is that our ancestors might have told us that we already think too much, trust too little and act as though we don’t believe what the scriptures teach us.

I really liked most of this talk, but I did just want to add that around the 50 minute mark that broadly speaking it is women who desire to be single, not men. Maybe it would be good to have a two part episode with one addressed to men on how to attract a wife and the second addressed to a woman on why marriage is a good thing and what the standards should be.

At the moment in our congregation we are it seems to me we are being taught from the perspective of what theyer calling cross culture and I was just wondering if anybody can shed light on the difrince between what they are teaching on cross culture Church, rather than what I have picked up from some of the podcast's ive listened on Esra Institute even traveled a long way from North wales to one of the meetings when Joe was in Daventry speaking at a confrence there focusing more on culture Reformation, because it seems to me at the FIEC Church I attend its about geting in line with a culture or adappting to the culture rather than As Ezra Institute is saying the church neads to win back its rightfull standing and rather to reform the culture. Culture Reformation?

SO would you say from a reformed perspective that the kind of equipping that is happening on The Lord's Day every Sunday morning isn't the sort (as was mentioned early in the conversation) like what a seminary class does to "equip" but the sort that strengthens ones confidence/faith by the amount of trust it takes to believe God at His word and fellowship/commune with Him partaking of the Supper testifying to His promises?

As a gay man, I want to share that I don't feel the current "pride" movement truly represents gay men and women. It's similar to how BLM doesn't speak for all Black people. We shouldn't confuse the movement with the actual people. Most gay folks I know today don't even recognize what the movement stands for anymore, or what the colors on the flag mean. We've already achieved many of our rights, and for us, the need to shout about "pride" is over. What we want now is simple: recognition and protection from the government. That's all we're asking for.

Hmmm, i'm gonna be honest i haven't heard everything yet. But is worship not suppose to be what we do everyday??? The topic sounds to me more like describing how we have communion. Or fellowship or however you want to call the gatherings of the saints... Don't get me wrong. Those are important. Yet, i would say true worship is to act accoording to the character of God. Not just one day, but actually everyday!!! Or am i wrong in that conclusion???

Nate, Joe, here's a few thoughts on the new heavens and new earth [NH&NE]. First, i will state my position then i'll flesh it out a bit. The NH&NE phrase is a metaphor for living in The New Covenant, our present reality. Therefore, once again, we are, now, living in the NH&NE. In Rev.22:2 we learn that, in the NH&NE there is healing; healing implies sickness. In another NH&NE Passage, Isaiah 65:17ff, we learn that there are sinners and death there. Therefore, we learn that the EH&NE Passages are not speaking of The Perfect Eternal State. We also, in the Isaiah Passage, learn that though there are sinners and death there, the state of existence is better, greater; that's the book of Hebrews, that's the betterness, the greaterness of Jesus and The New Covenant, our present reality! Trusting that you can, to a degree, at least, see what i am saying, "What happens when a Christian dies if we are now in the NH&NE?" (By the way, John Owen understood 2 Peter 3 to be speaking of "men" and "government" etc. not the physical heavens and earth.) Paul, in 2 Corinthians 12, speaks about the 3rd heaven and Says that he, "heard unutterable sayings that it is not possible for man to speak." Nate, Joe, the 3rd heaven is So Glorious that The Holy Bible does not, really, speak on It. So, in closing, we are now living in the NH&NE and when a believer dies, he goes to the 3rd heaven of which The Holy Bible does not really speak because it's beyond words. What do you all think about food banks? I am talking from the British context. For example, the church I go to hosts and shadow funds a food bank but will not preach the word to the people who attend for fear of offending them or the non-christian volunteers. I think this is a tremendous waste of time and is ultimately cruel as it perpetuates the lie that work is bad, that the lazy are a victim of the rich, and wrongly promotes the proximate non-existential need of the person (because UK welfare is sufficient alone) above the eternal need of the person to whom the redistributive aspects of the Kingdom are shared but the Lord is ignored. I feel the church has lost its way and veered off into humanism having severed "love thy neighbour as thyself" from "love the Lord your God".

Great conversation I was literally explaining some of these concepts to my son tonight at dinner then saw this discussion and it almost confirmed many of the verses I went to. So good ….Soli Deo Gloria!!
