    You might want to let them get ripe, your eating a green fruit, let it get yellow and it probably be sweet.

      I waited for them to ripe last year and they were still very sour. I’ll try them again when they get more yellow this season. However, I remember back when I was little and eating star fruits at my grandparents; the fruit were still green like the ones I ate and they were sweat. But either way I’ll try them again when they get yellow and post it. I’d hate to cut this tree down.

      Tried again after they have ripen and still sour. I'll properly keep the tree and try grafting again this spring.

    We actually prefer them to be more sour rather than sweet. You picked them super green, so they are not ripe yet. That probably explains why they are sour. They are ripe when they are really yellow, yellow-orange.

      @thenoobgardener  11 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, I figured that out after last season. They have to be super yellow. Also found out that a lot of people like the sour taste; good for cooking.

    Definitely have to let them turn yellow before you eat them. Your tree is beautiful, hope mine gets that big.

      Thanks, and yes, this variety requires the fruit to be deep yellow before it becomes a little sweet. Figured that out toward the end of the season. Good luck with your tree.

    Kari variety is supposed to be the sweetest variety. Wait until they get ripe/yellow color and see if they get sweet or sweeter. Supposedly Asian people like the sour starfruit. If you have never grafted anything before try practice grafting something you can get free or cheap.
    Thanks man. I have some starfruit trees that I grew from seed and I plan on buying some kari variety scions/budwood and grafting them onto what I have.

    There usually very easy to graft when I’ve done it. Buy a new tree then use it to top work the tree u have if you don’t know someone to give u scions. Don’t kill that tree if you top work it you will have a big grafted tree really quickly. Common for the seedling versions to not develop sweetness till very ripe. Some of the grafted ones sweeten up while green. Looks like a pretty happy tree I wouldn’t worry about it trying to carry that much. If the fruit is getting to that size and isn’t staying translucent it isn’t trying to carry more than it’s able to. I grow them commercially and regularly let the trees load up like that to make sweet fruit. Maybe a little too much fruit on that one branch.

      I tried grafting but failed. 😅 I’ll try again when I have time.

    Bro let the damn fruit get tree ripen and turn dark yellow before you eat it and maybe it wouldn’t be so damn sour 😂

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад +1

      yea....this variety, you have to let it ripen to a deep/dark yellow before it turns a little sweet. I figured that out later in the season. That was updated on my third video. Where I grew up, the variety that I was familiar with, just a clear hint of yellow should be good enough to eat.

    You seem to be pruning your tree before your fruit are ready to harvest. Have you tried leaving the branches for prunning after the tree produces? Because most of the sugar added to the fruit comes from the leaves collecting sunshine. That could be the source of your sour fruit.

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад

      I see and yes I tend to prune my trees quite a bit because I like things to look clean n beautiful. With that said, the fruits got sweet toward the end of the season when the fruits were more ripen. There is an update video on my channel.

    If you propagated from a seed of a grafted tree,you are getting the grafted tree.it’s amazing that your grafted tree with its own roots is doing so well.Like another poster said, they are unripe .Idea for the next video “ Knowing when a starfruit is ripe”

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад +1

      Yes. They were unripe. My latest star fruit video shows the color when it’s ripen. It’s a variety that I was not familiar with so I thought they were ripen when I did this video.

    Bro, try fruit thinning. There are way too many fruits. There might be enough sugar in the tree to make them all ripe. Meanwhile get a new plant and plant it as well and a scion and graft it on this one. That way you can minimize the risk.

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад +1

      The fruits did become a little sweet later in the season. At the end of the season I cut everything down to just a few branches and it has not flowered this season yet :) properly won’t flower until next season but I’ll for sure thin the fruits next time.

    It's more important to grow it in the right climate. i.e. Tropical or subtropical.

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад

      Thank you. I'm in 10b and it flowers starting from late Spring all the way into Fall. It's now Jan and the fruits are still on the tree. It doesn't flower during the Winter and the tree struggled a little bit when it was around 1-2 years old but it's fine now that it's bigger. For this reason, I will try to graft a sweet variety onto my tree comes Spring. Good luck with your tree.

    They are not ripe of cource they will be sour. You have to wait till they are ripe. Color yellow. Not crunch.

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, this variety requires the fruit to be deep dark yellow before they are ready. I figured that out toward the end of the season. There are varieties out there which I'm used to that would be sweet when they are just a hint of yellow.

  • @ClassicRocker77

    Buy a sweet variety grafted star fruit and plant it close to your sour star fruit for cross pollination and use for more grafting attempts

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  Год назад

      I’ve tried grafting but failed. I may try again. This variety actually got sweet toward the end when the fruit is deep yellow, however, not too sweet and tar. Good for cooking though.

    You are eating a green fruit young man. The fruit needs to be ripened in order for you to enjoy it uncooked . Have you ever tried a ripened one?

    • @thenoobgardener
      @thenoobgardener  8 месяцев назад

      Figured that out later in that season. The variety that I was familiar with would be ripened at color. This variety requires it to be deep dark yellow and still it was not that sweet. Maybe because it was its first season fruiting.
