Church goers blindly follow Pastors. Jesus was against titles like Pastor..Mattew 23: 8-12

Most churches call their pastors pastor, or reverend, including many Protestant churches. And if you want to take the verse literally, I suppose you can't call your dad Father either, but everybody says you can call mom Mother.

@@ReflectionsMPH Taking it literally within its context Jesus isn't talking about biological relationships. Jesus is talking about relationships within the brethren. How do you take it? Apparently, out of context.

How do I take it? I do not believe that it prohibits us calling Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Episcopalian priests Father. But I do believe that pastors are not only fallible, but that they put on their pants one leg at a time, as does everyone. The spiritual meaning of the verse is obvious.
BTW, the Baptist Broadman commentary, 1969 edition, says: "True greatness as measured by service and humility is a recurrent New Testament teaching." It does not opine that this means you cannot call priests Father.
Jesus was not against the title of Pastor, or Father, but Jesus does warn pastors that they should not be prideful and arrogant because of their position.

@@ReflectionsMPH In Matthew 23:8-12, Jesus delivers a clear command regarding the use of titles among his followers. He admonishes against the adoption of honorific titles such as "Rabbi," "Father," or "Master" within the community of believers. While the specific title of "Pastor" is not explicitly mentioned in this passage, the underlying principle remains significant: Jesus instructs his disciples to avoid elevating themselves above others through the use of titles.
The essence of Jesus' teaching in this passage is humility and equality among believers. By forbidding the use of titles that imply superiority or authority, Jesus emphasizes the importance of mutual respect and deference within the body of believers.

The Baptist Broadman commentary does not say this, and that is a conservative commentary.

As a Christian, I do not accept Muslim scriptures as God-given. Furthermore, the Second Vatican Council teaches us that the Jewish race does not bear a corporate guilt for the crucifixion of Jesus two thousand years ago.
