Timberland is over price. Back in 2003 I would pay 60 bucks for Timberland At there outlet. They sold the company and changed the boots style. I stop buying them .
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. Excellent! You save a lot of us cheapskates from falling into the traps. I hope you could also test the eyelets, which are common problems with cheap knockoffs. These would often pop out and cause cuts to the wearer.

No need to be a boot gatekeeper. People can wear their boots for whatever use they want. Not everyone is wearing boots to jobsites every day and that's ok. Timberland sucks now because they're owned by a multinational corporation thats constantly cutting costs.
I witnessed the genesis of Timberland's becoming Timb's when I was a kid in the Bronx. On the weekends I used to go to rural Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Guys of all ages wore Timberland boots as casual wear instead of sneakers. A few years later they were being worn in New York City along with the Adidas Superstar sneaker.

Lugz are my favorite boots tbh but maybe when I can afford more expensive boots my opinion will change. But in MD nobody notices or cares if they are real. And I get compliments! I always buy the black boots
I’ve on occasion had to buy cheap boots from target (had trouble affording a certain type of boots to wear to street fairs) for some weird reason they lasted over 10 years (rarely got wet) and were super comfortable walking/standing on the streets for long hours (4-9). Long ago Ross would sell some pretty good boots. I think many were styles that the company was doing some sort of PR on (before everything was computerized). I managed to get some really cool, odd fryes made of really great leather. They survived being resoled! The only Timberland shoes I have are slip on high tops (for some reason high tops can be hard to find in women’s sizes). They are way more supportive and comfortable than my fancy converse (both have similar insoles)…. For boots I save my money and drop $$$$.
I also had a pair of steel toed Irish Setters I bought in 2000. They fit perfectly off the rack. I used to ride in them. After about 12 years I went looking for a new pair and no one had them anymore. I took them with me to a Redwing store and the guy said to me, These are a WWI boot cut. They don't make them like this anymore. I took them to a cobbler and for $100 he re-soled them with a vibram sole. I still got them.
Funniest part of the whole video; when ripping the Kingshow Upper from its sole you said "Oh no, the Kingshow.....letting me down again" Hahahahahahaha
I have the Lugz Convoys in blue. I wouldn't get the wheat color because knockoff Timberlands are corny, but blue boots aren't super common and they were cheap, so why not? I gotta say, they're tougher than I would have guessed. You definitely know you're not making a lifelong investment here, but they're decent for what they are, and they look pretty sharp. They have other weird colors, too - bright red, black with white soles, etc. Probably worth the 50 bucks for the novelty value if you're into that sort of thing.
The lugs had the wood block in the heel probably because it was made using direct heat vulcanizing process. That is the traditional way to make full rubber sole by this method, the wood block is there to fill the the middle part. Without a wood block the rubber under your heel can't get enough heat to cure. Obviously you can't use a bouncy/soft foam in there because the shoes will be pressed in the machine, and that pressure will compress the block. Once the mould opens the block will try to return to its original form effectively ripping the rubber from the upper. Almost spit my coffee while watching the band saw
You should do Project Farm-style durability & quality tests for a variety of footwear. For example, subject the outsole to a belt sander for a durability comparison.
The 6 inch premium timberland boot is a great value for what you get as far as I'm concerned. Most boots that last longer than them cost significantly more.
I lived in Ballston Spa, NY winter of '85-'86. Not sure I would have made it through that winter if it weren't for my pair of Timberlands keeping my feet warm and dry. Only wore them out and about Off duty. Had to wear my Navy issue chukkas at work. IYKYK
Back in the day when Rockports were still made in Portugal and had Gore-tex in them a buddy of mine tried to compare his timbers to my boots and a few months later his boots completely fell apart. The sole completely came apart and they were completely hollow. I told him they were just fashion boots but he wouldn't listen. Too bad Rockports have also become a fashion boot 😥.
i have a pair of knock offs from mckinley. ive had them for a couple years, my brother before me and, so far, they've been holding up really well never got wet or cold feet
Picked up a pair of Lugz from Marshall’s for $25 to get through the winter. They’re creased to hell after wearing them for a week but I’m glad I didn’t pay more for them.
I have never bought lugz but see them advertised all the time on Facebook. I looked at their website a few times but never ordered any. Timberlands are popular here (Iowa) as well, lots of my co-workers wear them. They are about as popular as New Balance and Sketchers.
I had a girlfriend from NYC who always insisted I wear Tims. I didn’t realize they are/were some New York icon. They never stood up to actual work conditions though and I’m happy with my Red Wings.
When I was in highschool I had a pair of sketchers that I later learned were Timberland knock offs. They lasted me till graduation and I don't think I actually wore them out. I don't remember what happened to them but they lasted longer than any other pair of shoes I wore growing up. I wasn't big on all the shoe brands back then so to me they were just a pair of comfy boots.
I can hear shoemakers and cobblers everywhere saying, “Only three types of construction?”. Well there’s also Blake Stitched, Rapid Blake Stitched, Bologna, Moccasin, Welted and Norwegian Welted, to name but a few.
Great job! Thank you very much!Quietest saw I ever heard! Just purchased the Polo's on sale for twenty-five bucks! Burlington Coat Factory! Pretty comfortable but fake leather the reason, no break in time required!
Had two pairs of Lugz back around 2015. Both had the soles crack in half within a few months of everyday wear. Lugz replaced the first pair and didn’t bother to respond to my second pair failing.
Little off-topic, but this is keeping me awake. I think we can use ram pumps to solve the energy crisis. First we build a hollow cylindrical tower out at sea, to a depth of say 1100m. The tower is open to the air at the top and has a sealed base at the bottom. We drill a hole about 20m below the surface and feed water into the tower. The water falls down a pipe for about 200m where it powers a turbine that is connected to an electricity generator. We collect the water and drop it down a pipe for another 200m to another turbine. We do this twice more until we are getting electricity from four generators. We then drop the water another 200m to power a turbine which drives a cog that is geared to turn a disc at the base of the tower. The waste water from the last turbine starts to collect at the bottom of the tower creating a shallow reservoir that we need to pump out. The rotating disc at the base of the tower has cams along its edge. These cams are used to push pistons outwards. These pistons are in cylinders built into the wall in a circular formation. The cylinders are sealed at the interior side apart from where a piston rod enters to push the piston outward. The outside of the piston head is exposed to the deep sea water. The cam will push the piston outward against the high pressure deep sea water. An inlet pipe will take water from our shallow reservoir which will be pulled into the space created in the cylinder, behind the piston head. When the cam releases the piston, the low pressure water inside the cylinder will be the only thing pushing the piston out against the high pressure deep sea water. This is when the system acts as a ram pump. The piston will be forced inward and will force the low pressure water back out through the inlet pipe toward the reservoir. The inlet pipe will now act the same as a waste pipe in a ram pump and the flowing water will shut a waste valve. The remaining water in the cylinder will be forced through a check valve into a pipe and upwards to the surface. The larger the diameter of the tower, the more cylinders that can be built into the wall at the base of the tower. I realise that the ram pump cylinder will pump more of its water back into the reservoir than it sends to the surface but we can always add more cylinders to the system. We can even put another layer of cylinders above the original ones as ram pumps still work underneath shallow water. I think we should be able to pump water upwards at the same rate that it falls into the bottom of the tower and so keep the reservoir nice and shallow. Now, if I understand the maths correctly, we might only be able to pump the water near to the surface. In that case, we can pump the water into a reservoir tank (inside the tower) and use the electricity generated by the first turbine to pump out the tank. This will leave us with 3 generators worth of electricity for every tower built. Would this work? Everyone, please comment.

You should do cut-in-halfs with formal dress shoes. There are a lot of famous brands out there but we don't know what's in their guts.
The cutting was absolutely hilarious, I was laughing so hard
Who needs a house in Austin when you can have a tent at an underpass of your choice?
Jeff... LOL... In the UK we put em up in four star hotels !!!
Traditional architecture inspired by the historic underpass tents of Los Angeles
It's the saw sound effects for me! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sir, you need to check your saw, it buzzes kind of weirdly :))
You should make a rig that can show how many pounds of force it takes to seperate an upper from the sole. Always great content though!
"Cemented all the way through. We're gonna test that!"
Seriously though, I bet Project Farm would be happy to help with a rig design.
Funniest part of the whole video; when ripping the Kingshow Upper from its sole you said "Oh no, the Kingshow.....letting me down again"
Hahahahahahaha
If you're doing a Moc-tober again I suggest looking up the brand Pajar. They're a Canadian brand. They make a moc toe boot called the Logger Moc Toe.
I wanna see the LL bean Moc Toe boots.
The 6 inch premium timberland boot is a great value for what you get as far as I'm concerned. Most boots that last longer than them cost significantly more.
I love my Timberlands. Nothing beats them for comfort, style and durability.
A piece of wood in Kingshow shoes is so hilarious. Good video
I don't like classical Timberland but i always love you cutting shoes.
I love the practical bandsaw sound effects, had me giggling like an idiot.
Dude. When you did the buzzing. I literally died. Hahahahahahah
LOL at the zoomed in 😏 for “let’s try it from the back”
I lived in Ballston Spa, NY winter of '85-'86.
I think lugz are still the better choice. I wore them through the late 90s to early 2000’s and they were pretty nice
Same late 90s.
Clicked for the comparison, stayed for the education of boot construction, liked for the V.O. of the saw
i have a pair of knock offs from mckinley. ive had them for a couple years, my brother before me and, so far, they've been holding up really well
never got wet or cold feet
I'm online looking at some black iron ranger...
They look like my old military boots from the 80s. Love em
Oh man that bandsaw killed me
I love the sound effects of the saw mate. 10/10 🤪
Great job! Thank you very much!Quietest saw I ever heard! Just purchased the Polo's on sale for twenty-five bucks! Burlington Coat Factory! Pretty comfortable but fake leather the reason, no break in time required!
The BHPC "Shank" is definitely a folder fastener, repurposed. I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid, so yeah a kid can bend those easily.
Had two pairs of Lugz back around 2015. Both had the soles crack in half within a few months of everyday wear. Lugz replaced the first pair and didn’t bother to respond to my second pair failing.
Could you do a review comparing women’s boots vs men’s? I’d be curious to see how well women’s are made compared to men’s in a the same model
Very nice and quality soundeffects in this one 👍
Please do them more often (seriously)
Just curious if you ever done a set of wolverines, I've owned a pair and am curious on how good they were lol. Friends loved the comfort but now after watching your vids the redwings are calling my name lol, great video
Bro was humble. We could all tell he upgraded that band saw. Cut like 🧈
